Hope and change in reverse: Obama less popular in Arab world than Bush and Ahmadinejad

According to a new Zogby poll President Obama’s promise of hope and change is working out in the Arab world about as well as it’s working out in the good ol’ US of A.

According to a new Zogby poll President Obama’s promise of hope and change is working out in the Arab world about as well as it’s working out in the good ol’ US of A. In other words, not well.

But at least the Europeans still love him.

Hoax and change

Commentary magazine has the details:

Respondents rated Obama’s policies as the least popular, when compared with other leaders, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Killing Osama bin Laden also contributed to the Arab world’s negative views of Obama. In all six countries surveyed – Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia – the majority of respondents said killing bin Laden made them “less favorable toward the U.S.” Notably, in Egypt, only 2 percent said the al Qaeda leader’s death made them view America more positively.

Most surprisingly, Obama’s approval ratings are even lower than President Bush’s before he left office in 2008. They dropped from 26 percent to 12 percent in Morocco, 9 percent to 5 percent in Egypt, 16 percent to 10 percent in Jordan and 22 percent to 12 percent in the UAE (though they did improve in Saudi Arabia, and tick up slightly in Lebanon).

But how is this possible? President Obama gave that dandy speech in Cairo. He announced that Muslim outreach was one of NASA’s main goals. He bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia. He demanded that Israel commit national suicide by returning to its 1967 borders.

There’s only one answer. Those Arabs are raaaacists.

How’s that Muslim outreach going? Al Jazeera headlines article “Emperor Obama vs the Arab people”

According to Al Jazeera, President Obama’s even less popular in the Arab world than he is in the United States.

President Obama made his Cairo speech soon after taking office. Then he used his unparalleled powers of persuasion again a couple weeks ago to speak out to the Muslim world once again.

According to Al Jazeera, President Obama’s even less popular in the Arab world than he is in the United States:

Anyone know how to say "Hope and change" in Arabic?

While dubbing his speech Winds of Change, in reference to the uprisings ongoing across the Arab World, his speech made it clear that the same winds were not yet blowing in Washington DC, and perhaps never will. President Obama’s second speech on the Arab world, delivered on 19 May, showed such constancy and lack of change in US policy as his first speech, delivered in Cairo on 4 June 2009. This is not to say that the two speeches lacked flair and imperial hubris in the delivery, but rather that their characteristic lack of substance or novelty, let alone their decorative and gratuitous verbosity, demonstrate that imperial climate control in Washington can never be “changed”, not even by the wind of the Arab uprisings.

The problem with US policy in the Arab world is not only its insistence on broadcasting credulous US propaganda – easily fed to Americans, yet with few takers elsewhere in the world – but also that it continues to show a complete lack of familiarity with Arab political culture and insists on insulting the intelligence of most Arabs, whom it claims to address directly with speeches such as Mr Obama’s.

… When Obama speaks of how America’s “short-term interests” in the region, at times, “don’t align perfectly with our long-term vision for the region”, he is peddling the biggest imperial lie of all. America’s short- and long-term interests in the region have always been control of oil resources, securing US profits, and defending Israel. Until “winds of change” blow on these interests, the position of the United States as the most powerful anti-democratic force in the Arab World will remain the same, Emperor Obama’s speeches notwithstanding.

Uh-oh. Looks like the Muslim world has figured out the same thing American voters have figured out:

Hope and change is really smoke and mirrors.

Islamic MTV: Simultanously moronic and oxymoronic

Tough to imagine anything more moronic than MTV nor anything more oxymoronic than the term “Arabic MTV.”

Walk down the street in any Arab capital and you’ll see burkah-covered women. Yet turn on the TV in any Arab living room and you’ll find a dozen music video channels filled with bared flesh.

Enter Ahmed Abu Haiba, the founder of 4Shbab TV, which calls itself “Islam’s own MTV.”

The idea behind 4Shbab is simple, he says. Mainstream music videos are “lewd” and do not represent the Arab world’s cultural values. He says they are haram, or forbidden and sinful in Islam.

4Shbab TV is Abu Haiba’s attempt to put young people back on the right path, he says, in a way that is fun and entertaining. Music videos from around the world – not just “Islamic videos,” but anything that’s positive, he says – air alongside call-in shows and contests like “Who wants to be an Islamic pop star?”

“Ask people in the street and they will tell you that these channels are something strange in our culture,” he says. “They smash our identity and confuse people, especially the younger generation. They give them a misunderstanding about their own lives.

Arabic MTV. We can’t wait to see Madonna in a burkah singing “Like 72 Virgins.” al-Vis Presley singing “Jailhouse Rocket Grenade Launcher.” And purple caftan-clad Prince with his rendition of “Party Like It’s 1399.”

Obama goes Arab, says USA acts like dictator

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3mU6DH1PMY President Barack Obama stiffed all the American news channels and gave his first formal television interview to an Arabic cable TV network.

While discussing his orders to new Middle East envoy George Mitchell, Obama told the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya network, “What I told him is start by listening, because all too often the United States starts by dictating.”

Unsubstantiated reports say that Chris Matthews was rushed to a Washington, DC-area emergency room after having multiple thrills rush up his leg. The rapidly-worsening condition has begun to concern those close to Matthews.
