Hoyer, speaking on CNBC, said he thought part of the reason Republicans have refused to compromise with Democrats on the debt-ceiling package was because of how House Democrats pushed through the Obama administration’s healthcare law.

“I think that’s accurate,” Hoyer said Friday. “I don’t think healthcare was handled the way it should’ve been, but let me tell you why: There was an openness to compromise, but the Republicans said, ‘Look, we don’t like your plan, we’re not going to go there at all,’” Hoyer said.

Steny, dude, far be it from us to intrude on your fantasy with a note of reality, but if there was no openness to compromise, the budget would have been slashed.

Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) has tabbed two Democrats and Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.) as fit for “shame” for being too beholden to corporate interests.

Feingold, the former liberal senator who leads a new PAC called Progressives United, singled out House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Lieberman (Conn.), an independent who caucuses with Democrats, for a close relationship with corporations.

“This culture of corporate influence and corruption is precisely what we at Progressives United want to change. So we’ve decided to take on those legislators who are unwilling to stand up to corporate power, and we’re naming names,” Feingold wrote in an email, asking for $5 donations to “shame” those lawmakers with online ads.

Call out the Republicans, too, Russ. Clean out the swamp. It’s about time someone actually does the job Nancy Pelosi said she was going to do.

We’re not sure if Hoyer is unable to criticize Democrats for this stupid stunt or if he is simply so inarticulate that he is unable to clearly express that criticism. Nah, who are we kidding? It’s both. And Hoyer should be embarrassed about his performance on Fox News.

Chris Wallace interviewed Democrat Steny Hoyer and asked him about Steven Colbert’s testimony before the House last week. It was an exercise in futility for Wallace.

Wallace: Was this an embarrassment for the House?
Hoyer: I think his testimony was not appropriate. No, I think it was an embarrassment for Mr. Colbert, more than the House…
Wallace: He was called by the Democratic chair of the subcommittee.
Hoyer: You asked me if, Chris, if the testimony was appropriate. I think it was not appropriate.
Wallace: And he should not have been called.
Hoyer: Well, I don’t know if whether he was called, but I think what he had to say was not the way it should have been said. If he had a position on the issues, he should have given those issues and I think, you asked my personal opinion…
Wallace: And you regret it?
Hoyer: I think it was inappropriate.

The latest to join the chorus – despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary – is House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who, with good reason, is seldom allowed to speak in public.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Hoyer repeatedly insisted, “We’re going to hold the House” and “We don’t have any weak candidates.”

Let us just say three words: Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf?

You may remember al-Sahaf (aka Baghdad Bob), Saddam Hussein’s Information Minister. During the early days of the Iraq War, he became famous for saying things like “They’re not even within 100 miles of Baghdad. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion … they are trying to sell to the others an illusion.” This as American tanks rolled by in the background.

No one could ignore the facts like Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf. Until now, that is.
