How we long for the good ol’ days (and when we say “good ol’ days” we mean April, 1980)

national-lampoon

This cover of National Lampoon from April, 1980 may be politically incorrect today, but damn, it sure seems emotionally correct.

    • Iran hostage crisis, Carter not doing anything (as usual), muslims all pretty much lived over There, there was a lot of stuff like that. I remember Johnny Carson talking about kicking the shiite out of them. Now we have terrorist sympathizer manginas talking about how unfair we are, not letting them build a monument to their evil.

I think that what happened was with the demise of communism, they needed some other vehicle for their deep seated hostility to this country. There's money and power in spreading division, if you have no morals, and no conscience.

      • The demise of communism wasn't anywhere to be seen yet. Fact of the matter, USSR had only started there "conquest" in Afghanistan a few months prior. Indeed, the Berlin Wall was still being upgraded and improved at this time. Tidbit - Pink Floyd's The Wall had been out a few months and had absolutely nothing to do with communism, which was still "flourishing", as any communist will tell you.

        • Yes, but what I am referring to the current LibLove for muslims -- it is a relatively recent phenomenon, and most of it happened well after Ollie North's little thing. Yes, back in '80, communism was still a going concern. However, at that time, it was conservatives who were making friendly noises at the mujahedeen, as it kept Ivan awfully busy and it was relatively cheap.

Part of the problem is the human tendency to blame the people who bring the Middle East peace problem to the popular consciousness -- I see it all the time in the tech world, where the tech actually begins to hate the person calling in with the problem, even though it is their own sorry-assed product that is the real issue.

I think the liberals had to go searching for someone to blame for what they feel is American wrongness, and this meme caught on, reprehensible as it is with all the anti semitism. The libs have never been choosy about who they keep company with, and these people are just nasty. It gets doubly confusing to me, to see American jews providing support to people who just want to kill them.

          • Of course you're correct. This anti-Amercan liberal BS where anything that harms the freedoms we've enjoyed gets them all giddy, is perplexing to any logical thinker. The US support of the mujahadin vs. the ruskkies, and even saddam's iraq in their quest to fight iran really did seem the right thing, but then we really hadn't a clue to the evils of islam, at least not the many here that do today.

Oliver North does seem to have had an idea about it, and if we had take khomeini seriously, we would have too.

Always a pleasure participating in conversations with the peoples here.

  • How does that plastic ring thing on their head work? Are the black bits weights (like sinkers)?

It is important because this and the burkha are the only innovations to come out of the Arab world so it's good to appreciate the finer detail and centuries of thought that have gone into such things.

Oh, they also repackaged satan as allah - guess that counts as a third global contribution.

  • only politically incorrect for the human-sized walking vaginas that are the "men" of the left. Nothing incorrect about that picture. Time to fight back against opec, the middle east and Islam in general.
