UK: as a man’s body floats in three feet of water, 25 emergency workers stand and watch because they aren’t “trained” to go in water. If only he was behind on his taxes, somebody from the revenue office would have jumped in and at least saved his wallet. Get a load of how many people it takes to not rescue one man:

Maybe it was donut break time for the unionized workers. And we can't violate union rules, can we, even in life and death situations?
I'm reminded of the Air Florida crash into the 14th St Bridge and Potomac River in Washington, DC. The fat worthless affirmative action donut cops stood around looking stupid, and a brave civilian pushed past them, dove into the water, and saved lives.
You just have to love the "Not My Job" mentality displayed by a large number of SEIU members. What happened in England is just a symptom of what's going to happen here soon.
This whole scenario shows what is wrong with most people today. They wont risk themselves to save some one else. They will however whip out their damn cell phones and start videoing what is happening around them while making comments.
There is no excuse for what occurred, NONE.

I'm sure the massive hoards of serve no purpose bureaucrats in England and in the US cannot understand why normal people think this is absurd. It makes perfect sense to them. It is simply a matter of the right people just didn't get to the scene quick enough. After all they were tied up in the traffic of all the other rescue workers and agencies that were already there or trying to get there.
Too bad there wasn't a 13 year old boy or girl scout handy, this tragedy would not have happened.
Precisely my thoughts, Navyvet. If it took five minutes for the first crew of ineffective government clowns to arrive, why hadn't the man already been pulled out of the water by a bystander. Gilian Hughes, the article says, called 911 when he was the man have a seizure. Then she did what? Just stood and waited for emergency response to arrive? She should be ashamed.
She was with her grandchild. I guess she feared for HIS safety if she charged off into the lake. But I get your point. Seems like SOMEONE there would have acted first, and gotten permission later.
If a police officer or fireman had told his superior to shag off, (hey, it was in England, right?), and jumped in to get him, what would they do, fire him? Fine, fire me. I'm going to call a press conference the next day, and give addresses and phone numbers for everyone involved in the decision to fire me. See what happens.

At least the real Three Stooges were not basically evil people trying to ruin things for everyone but their lame constituents. They probably had more patriotism and integrity than all those currently occupying the whitehouse.
My favorite Stooges scene was in the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World' -- when they needed firemen to put out the airplane fire, they cut to a shot of Larry, Curly and Moe, just standing there with firemen's helmets on. That was all they had to do -- you knew *exactly* what kind of fire extinguishing services were going to get delivered.
Kind of like how you know you'll get 'helped' when the government wants to 'help' you.
Also the best scene I liked was the one with the actor Phil Silvers where he was driving an old convertable which he bribed the boy with 1 dollar to tell him how to get to the main highway.
The boy pointed down the ravine where there was this medium sized creek and the guy asked. "Down there?* *points down* YOU WANT ME TO GO DOWN THERE!!?"
All the actors in that movie are actually playing their roles from other films of that time period.
You make me want to watch that movie again.
Actually the movie "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" didn't have an airplane fire scene though it did have a basement fire scene where two of the people looking for the treasure ran into the basement of a hardware shop looking for a shovel in which the store owner closed up shop for lunch then cut off the power leaving the two people trapped in the basement.
They were a male and female and the male had this bright idea of using a torch to burn the steel door open but caused the platform to burn to the ground they were standing on. Afterwards he used dynamite to blow their way out causing a HUGE explosion making the girl scream then coming out of a laundry shop in a room with foreign people who didn't have a clue to what was going on.
And all this was after trying to turn on the fire alarm which was not operating due to the power being cut by the owner going out for lunch. :p

I also forgot to mention there WAS an airplane crash scene where there was a passenger and a pilot who passed out after being drunk in which the passenger got on the radio yelling for help.
The ATC person who was an actor in other movies did his *normal* role and said things like "ARE YOU CALM!". I TOLD YOU TO REMAIN CALM!!" and the pilot almost crashed into the ATC tower with the ATC hanging out of the window talking into the radio.
That's right. It was an airplane crash.
Great movie. Guess I will have to watch it again, just to see Jimmy Durante kick the bucket.

Obscene. We had our own version of this story a few months ago, 'member? Out in SF if I recall. The guy standing in waist-deep water trying to drown himself for an hour while ten different kinds of "Rescue personnel" stood and watched.
Wehad a similar deal here. Some guy's house burned to the ground while firefighters watched. He was several yards outside their boundaries and they were told not to respond in any way except tpo keep the fire from spreading into their area.
I was wondering if the Brits got their training at the same place the Alameda responders got theirs. Absolutely no excuse for this. These folks take these jobs to help people in their time of need, but the Unions have screwed this up also. 'We haven't been trained'..is a lousy excuse. Trained for what--walking into waist deep water to help a victim? How deep of water do they go in when they take their families to the beach, lake, or swimming pool? Whatever happened to being a good Samaritin and saying 'screw the regs'?
That's certainly what I would have done, and I've never had any formal water rescue training. But then, I've never been trained to crawl into crashed cars and help people either, but I've done that. Even if the police told me specifically not to go haul him in, I would have jumped in the water and told them to arrest me as soon as I get him over to dry ground.
Does nobody have any backbone at all these days? This kind of thing really pisses me off. The man was in his early 40's for Pete's sake, he had a life to live.
