Based on the dictates of the United Nations, we may soon revert to jousting. Because apparently they consider hand-to-hand combat the only proper way to resolve a dispute.
Reuters has the somehow-not-too-surprising news:
A U.N. investigator called on the world body on Friday to set up a panel to study the ethics and legality of unmanned military weapons — an apparent reference to U.S. drones that strike suspected Islamist militants. In a report to the U.N. General Assembly human rights committee, Christof Heyns said such systems raised “serious concerns that have been almost entirely unexamined by human rights or humanitarian actors.”
“The international community urgently needs to address the legal, political, ethical and moral implications of the development of lethal robotic technologies,” said Heyns, U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions.
It was the second time this year U.N. experts tackled the issue. In June, Heyns’ predecessor, Philip Alston, called for a halt to CIA-directed drone strikes on al Qaeda and Taliban suspects in Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying killings ordered far from the battlefield could lead to a “Playstation” mentality.
A couple thoughts:
First, “a Playstation mentality?” Cool. How about if we call the game “Kill the Friggin’ Muslim Terrorists.” It would sell millions. Use the profits to build more drones.
Second, we didn’t know what the hell a “rapporteur” was, so we looked it up. According to Princeton.edu, a rapporteur is “a recorder appointed by a committee to prepare reports of the meetings.” In other words, a secretary. Nothing against secretaries, but go sit on your boss’s lap and shut the hell up, secretary boy.

I say BAN the UN, kick them the hell out of the U.S., and DON'T give them any money any more.

Most ballistic missiles are 'unmanned' on descent.
An RPG is 'unmanned' the moment it has been fired.
A bullet is 'unmanned' once it leaves the barrel of a gun.
Any bomb dropped from a plane without a guidance system is 'unmanned' the moment it clears the bomb bay doors.
Despite the UAV designation, Predator drones are not actually 'unmanned'. There is a pilot, somewhere, controlling it from launch to landing.
But the OIC voting bloc will likely not see it this way, because reality doesn't figure into their cultural imperatives. So, I'm with the folks calling for the UN to be de-funded, and the headquarters moved to Mogadishu, Rangoon, Khartoum, Maputo or some other war-torn, third-world shit hole, where they will have the incentive to actually make some improvements for a change.
You know, that's a hell of an idea. Pick the absolute worst shit hole of a country, move the UN to it. When it becomes the best country, move it to the next worst shit hole.
Either we never see the UN again, or they actually start doing something other than mutual hand jobs, graft, and corruption.
Can we just disband the UN already! It is an atrocity to human rights and it is the most corrupt organization in the world. At least make them move to Iran where they will be very comfortable.
A "Playstation mentality"? I'm more worried about a "Koran mentality" which justifies IEDs, suicide bombers, bombs in passenger aircraft and murdering unarmed people. While the U.N. agonizes over the moral implications of "lethal robotic technologies" it conveniently overlooks the ongoing use of lethal Muslim theology.

As to your point about keeping score, don't kid yourself, the kids ARE keeping score. I had this discussion with several guys I grew up playing sports with & against after softball a few years back, & we all said the same thing, we kept score as kids.
