The press corps was gathered at the White House for President Obama’s first primetime press conference. They were on the edge of their seats, hoping to be called on by the Boy Prince.
The press conference started normally enough. Then, as the Wall Street Journal reports, the President started asking the questions.
Looking around the room for NBC’s White House correspondent, the President said, “Chuck Todd. Where’s Chuck?” Later, looking for Major Garrett of Fox News, he asked, “Where’s Major?”
Why was the president looking for specific reporters when dozens of others were wagging their arms in the air like the smart girl in elementary school? Turns out he knew who he was going to bless with a question before the first question was ever asked. The choice of questioners had been pre-selected before the first question was asked.
Just imagine if President Bush had attempted the same thing.
Whoopi Goldberg would have thundered that he was violating the Second, Eight and Eighty-Ninth Amendments. The ACLU would have complained that he was violating the Geneva Convention. Hillary Clinton would have bitten off her tongue in the middle of a seizure.
At least that last one would have had some unforeseen benefits for the citizens of America.
