The same clever technique used by the White House to save or create 150,000 jobs will now be used to save or create $50 billion in prescription drug cost cuts. In other words, they’re creating it out of thin air.
When asked, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs couldn’t explain $50 billion of the $80 billion in savings promised by the White House.
Gibbs said $30 billion will be saved via price reductions on brand-name prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries who find themselves into the so-called coverage “donut hole.”
But that remaining $50 billion? Well, that’s a bit murkier. He said it will come from “unspecified and unknown” changes to drug costs linked to Medicare and Medicaid.
“They’re still continuing to work through some of the details on that,” Gibbs said with a straight face. “Some portion of this is going to go to the pharmaceutical interest — industry, making good on the savings proposals that the president has outlined to make health care more efficient, which will impact the amount that the government pays.”
We are highly trained medical experts here at IHateTheMedia.com, so we consider it our patriotic duty to explain these things:
The remaining $50 billion will be saved via cost reductions on the snake oil this administration is selling.

According to the Los Angeles Times:
President Obama suggested at a town hall event Wednesday night that one way to shave medical costs is to stop expensive and ultimately futile procedures performed on people who are about to die and don't stand to gain from the extra care.
In a nationally televised event at the White House, Obama said families need better information so they don't unthinkingly approve "additional tests or additional drugs that the evidence shows is not necessarily going to improve care."
He added: "Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller."
Using his elderly grandmother as an example...She fell and broke her hip, "and the question was, does she get hip replacement surgery, even though she was fragile enough they were not sure how long she would last?" [...]
So, old people: screw you. In the future Uncle Sam will put you on an ice floe and let you float away to your heavenly reward. Medical decisions should be made by patients, their families, and their doctors, not by government bureaucrats, but that's ObamaCare for you.
Now they're resorting to the Al Gore tactic of saying the debate's over; when it hasn't even started.
Thanks for the post. We agree that prescription drug prices are going out of control. We created a free online community to help people become better consumers of prescription drugs through networking and sharing information. The link is http://www.rxmole.com.
