White House to mysteriously “save or create” $50 billion in prescription drug costs

When asked, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs couldn’t explain $50 billion of the $80 billion in savings promised by the White House.
Gibbs said $30 billion will be saved via price reductions on brand-name prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries who find themselves into the so-called coverage “donut hole.”
But that remaining $50 billion? Well, that’s a bit murkier. He said it will come from “unspecified and unknown” changes to drug costs linked to Medicare and Medicaid.
“They’re still continuing to work through some of the details on that,” Gibbs said with a straight face. “Some portion of this is going to go to the pharmaceutical interest — industry, making good on the savings proposals that the president has outlined to make health care more efficient, which will impact the amount that the government pays.”
