Carney: If it looks like a recession, sounds like a recession and smells like a recession, it ain’t a recession!

Practitioners of the dismal science (some call it “economics”) have poorer prognostication records than the average storefront fortune teller. Still, even they have enough sense to realize a plethora of dark acrid smoke is a strong clue that somethin’ may be a’ burnin’.

Not White House head double-talker Jay Carney, who is either an incurable optimist or simply incurable.

President Barack Obama’s spokesman is discounting talk that the economy may be headed back into recession, despite recent concerns of economists.

Spokesman Jay Carney says there is no question that economic growth and job creation have slowed over the past half year.

But, Carney told a White House briefing, “We do not believe that there is a threat of a double-dip recession.”

We’d point out that when one’s caught in a downpour, the “threat” of rain is a foregone conclusion.

The recession that began in December 2007 officially ended in summer 2009 and the economy has seen growth since then. However, that growth has slowed to a trickle in recent months.

Sounds like the “trickle down economics” Keynsians are always denigrating until their policies are the stones in the ureter.

He blamed the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, higher energy prices, default worries in Europe and recently resolved uncertainty over raising America’s borrowing limit. Carney said, “We believe the economy will continue to grow.”

Wow, so Japanese natural disasters and European deadbeats are the ones who passed Obamacare and the un-stimulative Stimulus and are harrassing U.S. businesses with stupid regulations? Damn them! Damn them to hell!

  • I watch this guy, & wonder WTF Claire Shipman ever saw in him. Holy smoke, this guy is an idiot, & most everything his says is pure BS. Robert Gibbs & Scott McClellan are starting to look better every day. As for Shipman, she must be easy to please.

  • Just today I was listening to the radio and Tom Sullivan mentioned that while everyone was focused on the debt crisis, The Obungles adminiistration passed out over 600 new regulations for business and companies..Looks like President dipshit took advantage of a crisis again. God please someone push him down the elevator shaft at the white house before he screws us all into the ground. And this little pervert is saying there going to be growth? Where in business bankruptcies? Perhaps Obungles will only be happy when we are all broke. Damn 2012 can't come soon enough.

    • Pittsburgh Z-couldn't have said it better myself. It is a depression anyway-just a long beginning-and a lot of false reporting by agencies covering for slowbama. The end is near for barry's administration-and the pitchforks are being sharpened now-and I think the media will be the first roundup for the inflamed masses to make happen.
      As for Norah Odonnell Toocoldinwa-she needs a cell next to moochelle( for her misappropriation of public funds), for aiding and abetting the commission of felonies(by slowbama, and the DNC) for putting an ineligible man in the oval office. the criminal proceedings to lock up all the abettors and the masterminds will last a decade or so. And I have to say, I am convinced barry was "trained" in the 80s when he traveled to Pakistan. He was going into Russia via Pakistan and getting his KGB subversion training-bet a million bucks.

      • Our military personnel DO take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign AND domestic, do they not? And I believe the military takes it's oath quite a bit more seriously than anyone in Washington.
