Drew Carey for Senate: Ohio libertarians wants to draft The Price Is Right host

Libertarians in Ohio want to draft Drew Carey, comedian and host of The Price Is Right to run for the United States Senate.

That might sound crazy at first, but we’d love to see the Senate hearing where Carey grills a government contractor by saying, “Why wasn’t the winner the vendor who came closest without going over the real price?” That’ll put an end to those $1200 monkey wrenches and $700 toilet seats.

That's Senator Drew Carey to you

Politico.com has the story of libertarians asking Carey to come on down:

With no clear-cut Republican contenders having emerged yet for the contest, conservative activist Josiah Schmidt took it upon himself a little more than a week ago to construct a website and Facebook page to kick off the draft effort.

While Carey, who is from Cleveland but currently lives in Los Angeles as host of “The Price is Right,” has not yet commented on the movement, Schmidt told POLITICO the Reason Foundation has already agreed to reach out to the television star about the possibility.

Reason, a libertarian think tank, partnered with Carey on a documentary series on the plight of Cleveland last year.

“Carey’s outspoken libertarian-conservative policy advocacy, most notably through the Reason Foundation, has proven his credentials as someone who could be trusted to spare no sacred cows in his fight to reduce the size and role of government back to what it was originally intended to be. Furthermore, his name recognition, personal wealth, affability, and status as Ohio’s favorite son would be a huge asset in an election,” said Schmidt.

“Drew’s increasing activism in local Ohio politics certainly gives us no reason to think he’s uninterested in running for office. Also, his recent slimming down, the fact that he is in the last year of his five-year contract with Price Is Right, and the fact that he maintains a residence in Cleveland would all match up well with a 2012 Ohio Senate candidacy,” he argued.

Why not? He’s funnier than Al Franken. But what the hell, if that’s now the criterion for being in the United States Senate, get ready for Senator Carrottop.

  • From what I've read about Drew Carey, he's a Libertarian and not one of the greenie-weenie limousine libs of Hollywood.

And don't completely knock all of Hollywood. It does have good people in the likes of Gary Sinise and Adam Baldwin. And don't forget it also gave us Ronald Reagan.

    • One of Ohio's current Senators is sherrod brown..
Wears the commie, pinko, progressive, hat and needs to be retired..

Other excellent conservatives from Hollowood are Jon Voight and the late Charlton Heston..

      • Don't forget Tom Selleck. And from the world of music, Ted Nugent. There ya go. Ted and Tom, President and Vice President.

        • Ted and Tom would be great. But, Abbott and Costello would be an improvement over the current clowns. They could get the Three Stooges for Sec of State, AG, and Press Sec. Also an improvement.

  • What scares me about this, is that it shows we are getting desperate.
We should have a CLEAR CUT candidate by now.
    Yikes!

    • The guy occupying the White House could be so easily improved upon that the idea a literate man such as Drew could do better is easy to take, so by simple extension any lower office would seem practical. I'm don't suggest him as a first choice but it has been proven that really moronic dolts get elected all the time, a smart guy with the Constitution at heart would be a great change anywhere.

  • He'd probably be a good senator because he's had long experience dealing with bureaucracy as Dilbert. What's that you say? Drew Carey is not Dilbert? Are you sure?

Has anybody ever seen them in the same place at the same time?

  • This just reiterates the need for a constitutional amendment requiring the Separation of State and Hollywood.

I like drew, always have. I just don't like the Hollywood influence.

    • I don't like Hollywood celebrities butting their ignorant views into political discussions, but that's because most of them are liberals. Drew is a true Libertarian, and the name recognition wouldn't hurt a bit.

  • Wow, he's been doing The Price Is Right for almost 5 years? Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday he took over.
