We’re pretty sure the Royal Canadian Mounted Thought Police have already been notified, so Professor Mahfooz Kanwar should be prepared for their arrival.
The Calgary Herald has the details:

About one dozen families who recently immigrated to Canada are demanding that the Louis Riel School Division in Winnipeg excuse their children from music and coed physical education programs for religious reasons.
The families believe that music is un-Islamic — just like the Taliban believe and then imposed on the entire population of Afghanistan — and that physical education classes should be segregated by gender even in the elementary years…
In any event, the school district is trying to find a way to adapt the curriculum to fit the wishes of these families, rather than these families adapting to fit into the school and Canadian culture.
Mahfooz Kanwar, a member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, says he has some better ideas.
“I’d tell them, this is Canada, and in Canada, we teach music and physical education in our schools. If you don’t like it, leave. If you want to live under sharia law, go back to the hellhole country you came from or go to another hellhole country that lives under sharia law,” said Kanwar, who is a professor emeritus of sociology at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

I think kanwar is not aware of the facts and discussion is being held out of contest and hatred. Islam and sharia is not bad, it is the non practicing muslims who like to follw the regional traditions rather a religion. Go back and refer to the life of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Are really most of the muslims following him with letter and spirit, a big no. That is why non- muslims do not see the real Islam rather they see the Islam of Taliban and Alqaeda. May Allah guide us and we show the true picture of Islam. Islam is peace and love, can you really see it.
Did you get out your scissors and cut out the parts of the Koran you didn't like? Islam is to take over the world. Converts TO the religion are welcomed, but those who refuse are to be killed on the spot, and those who leave the faith are also to be hunted doen and killed. THere is no peace in that.
FREAK OF NATURE
"I think kanwar is not aware of the facts and discussion is being held out of contest and hatred."
Seriously? Mr. Kanwar is a Muslim. Did you happen to miss that?
At last! A Muslim speaks out without fear of Fatwas or the prevailing idiotic opinions about Muslims. Sir, you are my hero! Your tale should be spread far and wide for all the world to hear.
I have read the Koran cover-to-cover and find it contains things that are even more disturbing than our Christian Bible. As a child, I played with Muslim children and found them to be delightful companions. Then they grew up and began to repeat the hatreds their parents and Mosques taught them and my friends became enemies. A child has to be carefully taught to hate, and the Koran helps in that endeavor. At root, all religions are primarily tools used to control the sheeple. Each to his own, each to his doom. Who benefits? THINK!
Pearlcat said: "The problem is, many of the people that swear up and down that they are going by the bible have never read it. It lays a pretty heavy burden on you, and the kind of people that just read what’s convenient to them are missing the point."
Absolutely... Every single word in that statement is absolutely true. Every single word and punctuation. The Bible is one of the most sophisticated, complex and BURDENING book in the world. It is not for the light headed nor light hearted. As there ever been a time that something in there wasn't in there so I would not be convicted? Yes, but I cannot make those words nor sentences dissappear just because they make me uncomfortable. As I said to someone earlier today it is my attitude that has to conform to Christ's not the other way around.
"I haven’t been to Canada since I was a kid, oh some forty years ago now, and I remember it being nice then. Sad what four decades of progressive pollution can do to the environment."
You just described Kalifornia. And a host of other places in the US.

I don't think that Canada is as politically correct as people think. A few years ago in Ontario some in the Islamic community demanded that Sharia law be allowed in family court (diversion courts where community members would be the judges) because Jewish and Catholic (I think it was catholic) were allowed the same program. The said that to deny this to Muslims would be wrong and racist. The Ontario Premier (Dalton McGuinty a liberal in both outlook and party) agreed. So he cancelled the family court priviledges for both the Jews and the Catholics. After a bit of sputtering the Jews and Catholics agreed it was the best thing. The Muslims that were advocating this were stunned but they were left with no recourse. Everyone realized that this was the camels nose of sharia law trying to slip into the tent and that was a very bad idea.
The only sane thing the McGuinty ever did!
On the other hand Ezra Levant was dragged in front of a human rights tribunal for the "crime" of owning a magazine that published the danish cartoons. (the you-tube videos are hilarious)
Don't give McGuinty too much credit. He's the one who initially floated the idea of Sharia law. Idiot.
This is why, as a Christian, I am against charitable deductions. They amount to a government subsidy of charities -- while the charities I support (homeless shelters, children's hospitals, etc.) are at the least, doing some good in the world, other religious groups have considerably more nebulous charities that either amount to money laundering operations, or are just one aspect of a mutual enrichment society, as opposed to being an actual charity where they help human beings. It isn't even groups like the Wiccans that are the chief offenders in this regard.
So much better for charity to be charity, and keep the government's nose out of it.
Well played, Ontario :)
I used to live across from Toronto, on that big ole Lake
Wow, I am a Canadian and we are suffering from the political correctness disease even more then you are in the USA. To hear a Canadian speak out the truth like this, a muslim Canadian no less, is a huge breath of fresh air!
