Is Obama getting “wisdom and advice” from CNN? Or isn’t he?

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria made a very odd claim on Friday’s Eliot Spitzer show. He said that President Obama often calls him for “wisdom and advice.” We say odd because it calls into question any claim of journalistic impartiality.

Oh, but wait. It’s CNN we’re talking about, so that that’s really never been an issue, has it?

We’re pretty sure that someone screamed in Zakaria’s earpiece that he had said something stupid, because he’s as soon as the show ended he went into spin mode and claimed he said what he said but didn’t really mean what he said when he said it. Or words to that effect.

By Saturday night he had moved into spin overdrive by blogging:

Clarifications on my conversations with the president:

The characterization that I have been “advising” President Obama is inaccurate. Over the last few months I’ve had a couple of conversations with the president, off-the-record. At no point did President Obama ask me for advice on a specific policy or speech or proposal, nor did I volunteer it. I know that he has had similar meetings with other columnists.

Considering what a mess Obama has made of his presidency it seemed entirely reasonable that he has been getting advice and wisdom from a second tier analyst on a third tier cable news network.

But, seriously, folks, isn’t getting political wisdom and advice from CNN like getting chastity advice from Madonna?

  • Well there you have it, the independent press - no ball in the game, just the facts.
They report, and decide if their lib leader god has followed their demands, and absorbed their viewpoint, and if Ofailure "was watching" when he should have been - a pre-supplemental to the world policy meetings face to face.
Clintoon News Network now Comintern Navigation Node.

  • CNN along with wisdom and advice just dont go together. No way no how. Now this explains all the babbling come from the white house.

  • Wisdom and advice??? Oh I get it - that's like a remedial leeson from Rules for Radicals when the cowardly Lion of Abbottabad goes off the yellow brick road. That's why we're hearing about opening the spigot along the Mexican border these days.

  • hmm, the same guy who said that our reaction to 9/11 was over dramatic because only 3000 people died, and the economy recovered pretty fast. I wish this freak, who comes from a wealthy publishing family in India, would go back and work towards reforming their corrupt caste system, or as a Muslim, work towards calming tensions between Hindu and Muslim- before he puts his two rupees in on our country

    • Yep, that's the guy. He's a loon, & the President gets advice from him. Getting advice from loons is Obama's history, & he values that advice.
      That should scare you.

  • Maybe it's just me but given Obama's record, if he had been calling me for "wisdom and advice" I don't think I would tell anybody. Then again, he said it on CNN so he probably thought that was as good as saying it privately.

  • so together, they are clinton-ing not just the free world, but arab world as well ?
I wonder if there are High-Fives involved.

  • Fareed Zakaria -- shining the full light of his 2 watt intellect upon this administration. The scary part being that he isn't as biden as Biden.
