Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, the government is at it again.
The Obama administration has demanded that Governor Bobby Jindal stop dredging sand and building off-shore berms intended to keep the oil from reaching shore. The way we understand the government’s logic, stopping that juggernaut of black death from reaching shore just might be bad for the environment. The other option, allowing it to reach shore, is apparently considered better for the environment
According to New Orleans’ NBC affiliate WDSU:
The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.
The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.
At this point it becomes apparent that ineptitude can only account for part of the President’s lack of actions to save the Gulf Coast. When the administration actively seeks to prohibit measures that could save the coast, it’s clear that some other motivation is at work.
Obviously, Obama hates American people.
Now if we could only get Kanye West to spread the word.

The Corps of Engineers does what Congress mandates. Many projects were done in the name of economic development and the unintended consequences of, for example, draining the Everglades, have seriously harmed ecological integrity. These projects come about because people see opportunity and act upon it. I agree that they were successful in creating wealth/jobs. But Florida has seen the problems created and has passed landmark legislation geared to reversing the process. They are attempting to restore the Everglades. This is not something private industry could or would accomplish and falls within the logical role of government. The state of knowledge advances with time and we are moving in a direction of working with natural systems rather than trying only to conquer them. We will be more successful that way.
Government is not the answer, it is part of the answer. We will continue to govern ourselves because we insist upon it, not because it is efficient. Obama will be criticized whatever he does because he is the President. They can and should fill in parts of the barrier islands but they should not take from the locations they are trying to protect. That makes no sense.
What rights does Obama has to prevent a Governor to protect his state? This is the reason why government should be small and limited. The fish and birds that are already being affected by the spill will not be in the worst by this dredging. This is OBVIOUSLY a ploy to keep it going to attempt to hijack the system ONCE again.
I don't know anyone who thinks the world is flat or that the sun revolves aroung the earth, but I do know that the proponents of draining the Everglades were "experts" in building wealth for themselves and their investors. None of the resource managers or scientists I deal with think that was a good idea.

Actually, I sat in a classroom in Miami years ago when the Army Corps of Engineers came to our class for a lecture. They told us kids show smart the GOVERNMENT was to drain the everglades to provide year around farming for the WWII effort and help "tame" future hurricanes. I guess these guys wearing the US Government uniform were liars then. Yes, many landowners became wealthy once their swampland became fertile farmland. Oh, BTW, it also became taxed at a higher rate, provided thousands of jobs, etc. If you will check out your history, almost all of these folks were democrats - Florida was almost all Democrat until not too long ago.
Regarding the flat earth - did they teach history wherever you went to school? Or are you a recent recipient of government education teaching you about the bad European men. Of course, no women were with these evil Europeans - they must have all been gay. The "flat earthers" failed to check the writings of Solomon in Psalms (I think it's in Psalms) about a round earth. Nevertheless, the conventional wisdom back then was to ignore Scripture. Solomon later wrote, "Behold, there is nothing new under the sun". True then, true today.
Ditto sun revolving around the earth. One of the famous early astronomers (name escapes me right now) was threatened if he did not recant his theory that the earth revolved around the sun. Yes, it was the GOVERNMENT that made this threat - the problem is GOVERNMENT has too much power - then, and now.
Having grown up on coastal property, I agree that much of the sand might disappear. Soooooooooo, the answer is to marshal all available equipment sitting wherever to contain this. At least the Guv is trying something - and something is usually better that more committee meetings, more discussion, more "experts", etc.
Or, as someone much smarter than I once said – “If Government is the answer – it must have been a stupid question”. To not allow for human nature while conducting the affairs of man is as stupid as jumping off a roof filled with “hope” that this time the law of gravity will “change”.

I need to check Psalms (you may be right), but I do know that the roundness or at least the spherical nature of the Planet is observed and described in Isaiah for sure. I do not recall the chapter. If I am not mistaken Solomon does mention a spherical Planet either in Proverbs or Ecclesiastes (or both).
I believe it was Galileo Galilei I have to check it out.
The problem is the government (BIG out of control) and centralized powers no matter what denomination or philosophy it adopts.
Creating one bad thing to counteract another bad thing adds up to bad or worse. In this case the facts cast serious doubt on how much the berm would help and the way it is being done violates all that has been learned by the professionals who have been restoring and protecting coastal habitat for decades. By the estimate of one such professional who I know this project will take up about 25% of the monies available for mitigation and protection from this disaster, will likely disappear with the first storm and at least will be severely compromised, and taking from the borrow sites selected will leave those areas more vulnerable. WE allw ant something done but this only sounds like a good idea. This position does not come from Obama. In fact the experts are surely surprised that the administration acted on their concerns. I have not spoken with one resource manager from any of the coastal states (including Lousisiana) who thinks the berm is a good idea. Get your overly-simplified "facts" from the media or listen to the experts - your choice.
Good point. Me and my buddy Johnathan were discussing this very thing the other day. I mean whoa like stopping oil from reaching the shore is like so bad and I can't believe that more people don't see it, we should all be trying to do something really constructive here . . . like convincing the people of Louisiana that they should sell their kids to the White House to serve as hor dourves at the President's next party or Golfing outing. They could even use the money they receive for selling out their children for something pretty awesome like custard!
