Obama “misspoke” about late mom’s health insurance problems

During the 2008 campaign and the 2009 battle over his signature healthcare “reform” scheme, Obama claimed health insurers attributed his late mother’s cancer to pre-existing conditions and denied her coverage. A heartbreaking story, the only problem is it’s not true.

The news is in “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother,” a generally admiring new biography written by former New York Times reporter Janny Scott.

…Scott, who had access to Dunham’s correspondence from the time, reveals that Dunham unquestionably had health coverage. “Ann’s compensation for her job in Jakarta had included health insurance, which covered most of the costs of her medical treatment,” Scott writes. “Once she was back in Hawaii, the hospital billed her insurance company directly, leaving Ann to pay only the deductible and any uncovered expenses, which, she said, came to several hundred dollars a month.”

Scott writes that Dunham, who wanted to be compensated for those costs as well as for her living expenses, “filed a separate claim under her employer’s disability insurance policy.” It was that claim [emphasis ours], with the insurance company CIGNA, that was denied in August 1995 because, CIGNA investigators said, Dunham’s condition was known before she was covered by the policy.

Is Obama so stupid he can’t distinguish between health and disability insurance (some genius attorney!) or a stinking liar, the Prevaricator-in-Chief?

  • When you are as rich as Obama, and have as many strings to pull (or to be pulled for you) I guess insurance details are not that important. Of course, he couldn't have made this up just to get sympathy for his stupid healthplan. . . or could he?

    • Remember that whole thing about a doctor cutting someone foot or leg or arm or something and the person only had the flu? I am exagerating but he did mentioned something to that effect. It never happened. He lied through that ENTIRE process it was disgusting.

    • Obama is a flat out liar, as is his tag-team partner, Joe Bite-Me. They go great together.

  • Oh my goodness!!!! He lied?!!??!! I am so shocked... because you know I TOTALLY believe everything he says because he is so awesome and everything. I am sickened that he would use his dead Mother in this way. He has no boundaries and no morals. How disgusting.

    • She was White, Kimmy, and he has made it clear that he prefers his Black side-so not really surprising. Of course, like any politician he would sell his grandmother if he thought it would get him votes!

She did and helped him be on his Marxist way by introducing him to a Marxist Social Justice father figure who is/was black because since she and her husband are both white, they I suppose felt he needed a black father figure... So Obamie should have been more grateful to his typical white elderly grandmother for her Marxist legacy. So I don't understand the pushing her under the bus thing, but hey Obama has not made a big deal about being loyal or anything *cough* Jeremiah Wright *cough* also under his bus.

          • Jeremiah Wright was an obvious throw under as soon as it came out. No way the media didnt cover for him there! But I agree, throwing his grandmother under the bus is not too sensible. We are of course talking about a man who will say ANYTHING to get elected.

          • There is quite a bit of speculation that Hitler was gay but I don't know if there is any real truth to it.

          • I have no idea about Hitler being gay. He did have the hots for one of his cousins that committed suicide and Eva Braun. *shrugs*

            Obama cannot be trusted when he says something about a group of people in what he thinks is a private place and says the exact opposite to the same group of people not even days apart.

  • This story smelled phony when he used it in the debates. I remember doing a little quick calculation and wondering -if it were true- what kind of son would turn down a six-figure job that could pay for his mother's medical bills so that he could become a "community organizer" instead. So I'm not surprised at finding out that it is just another lie in the authorized biography of his lordship.

  • He was merely doing what he and all his cronies always do, skew the facts to fit his argument. Thing is, most common-sense people consider that lying, and now it is beginning to catch up with them. Oops!
