Obama reports Arizona to the UN Human Rights Council, Arizona governor responds

The temptation to openly laugh at the United States must be getting stronger and stronger.

The Obama administration submitted a report to the United Nations Human Rights Council last week and among the many American sins for which it apologized was Arizona’s anti-illegal alien law.

Keep in mind that the beacons of brotherhood who sit on the UN Human Rights Council include Angola, Egypt, South Africa, Bangladesh, China, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and believe it or not, Cuba.

Let’s just say that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is less than pleased. She wrote an angry letter to the President condemning the report, demanding its withdrawl and calling it “downright offensive”.

The Associated Press has the details:

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer demanded Friday that a reference to the state’s controversial immigration law be removed from a State Department report to the United Nations’ human rights commissioner.

The U.S. included its legal challenge to the law on a list of ways the federal government is protecting human rights.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Brewer says it is “downright offensive” that a state law would be included in the report, which was drafted as part of a UN review of human rights in all member nations every four years.

“The idea of our own American government submitting the duly enacted laws of a state of the United States to ‘review’ by the United Nations is internationalism run amok and unconstitutional,” Brewer wrote.

Of course, the members of the Human Rights Commission listed above are confused by the concept of building a wall to keep people out. Their human rights records are all they need to do the job.

  • THIS IS DISGRACEFUL.Obama,Clinton, and Holder going after a state in our country to be judged by the United Nations.OBAMA,CLINTON,AND HOLDER MUST
    BE IMPEACHED.

  • I am sure Obama would rather "roll tanks" on Arizona then continue to do battle with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

  • Remember Hillary's part in this ... especially when the dems decide to run her given where obama's popularity is going ....

Also remember how proud she was to give $90m of *our* money to Hamas and her "dodging bullets" when she went to Bosnia ....

They'll run her as "another daring first", like barry, and we need to be vigilant and not fall for this B.S. again in 2012!
    mv

    • Not to mention how she practically hand delivered a statement of intent to dismantle our 2nd Amendment rights to the UN last month.

      • Civilian possession of firearms goes against the "purposes and principles" of the United Nations, for obvious reasons.

        • Yes indeed. In the libtard utopia only military/law enforcement should be allowed weapons... well military/law enforcement, and thugs, criminals, black panthers, drug cartels, thieves, gang-bangers, bodyguards for celebrities, politician's private armies, acorn members, union officials, warlords & juntas, etc. etc.... not law abiding private citizens who only want to protect themselves and their families. Anyone who opposes the 2nd Amendment should be considered a proponent of totalitarianism.

    • Have you ever heard from Americans who travel to foriegn counrties, & then they tell you that they said were Canadian to limit possible flak they may get for being American? Some went so for as to sew of Canadian flag patch on their jean-jacket or backback as cover. You know, because we are an imperialist hyper-power who needs to be put in it's place. Obama gained instant popularity with that crowd, those people are either cowards or anti-American idiots, sometimes both. Now when I went to Canada a couple of months ago, I had no such problem, & I tried to be polite about how I expressed my opinion when I was asked about Obama. Some were suprised at my lack of love of Obama, & then I told them to get away from the CBC, CNN, & NBC. If they wanted the other side, catch Fox,News(BTW, not always accessable in Canada)or conservative American talk radio(again, not always accessable, but I could hear Rush in Winnipeg via Fargo). There were some Canadians who know America is turning on Obama now, but not the majority, I am assumig that most foreigners don't know it yet. It's just a matter of time.

Yeah Danyboy, I call them Ugly Americans.

  • The UN might have been a noble idea at one time but all it is today is a global welfare camp sitting on United States soil and handing us a grocery list each year of how much money it needs and why the U.S. needs to pay. If the governments of the world really want this body of do nothings, move it to an international location, each country paying the same amount, each member responsible for obeying the laws of that country. As far a obama reporting a state to the UN human rights, what can anyone say, its the socialist dream to control, how grand a gesture to show the world he still cannot find anything but fault about America, worst president in our history!

    • I dunno that it was ever a "noble" idea, Michael. It's the direct result of Woodrow Wilson's failed League of Nations, and that was intended to give Progressives control over world affairs. And that's precisely what the UN became...

As for reporting Arizona to the UN, as far as I'm concerned, that's a treasonous offense. The States granted the Federal Gov't limited powers...not the other way around...

  • Our own federal government turning over a State to a "world court"...
This is becoming all too typical for this administration.

F**k the UN. They're just a podium for petty tyrants and 2-bit dictatorships all over the world. Who the hell are they to lecture us about human rights?

Oh, and about that "universal declaration of human rights" that they put forth...scroll down to Article 29, line 3 and you will find this little gem:
"These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations."
    http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml

So there you have it, folks.
The UN grants you "rights", and the UN can take them away if you exercise them "contrary to the purposes and principles" of some arbitrary authority. No mention of what those purposes or principles may be though...

I'll stick with the words of Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence, thankyouverymuch.
