UPDATE: Was Shirley Sherrod railroaded? Was the tape unfairly edited? She’s now been fired and is lashing out at the White House, the USDA, Fox News and Andrew Breitbart. We’ve added some information to the bottom of the story, and Breitbart’s response as well.
The NAACP calls the Tea Party racist. Then they turn around and have a black racist speak at their 20th Annual Freedom Fund banquet. Definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black, as it were.
“He had to come to me for help,” said Shirley Sherrod, George State Director of Rural Development for the USDA. “What he didn’t know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him,” she said. “I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land — so I didn’t give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough.”
Got that? She discriminated against farmers because they were white.
The statement itself is shocking enough. But what’s even worse is that the audience – members of an organization that’s raison d’etre is supposedly to support equal rights – didn’t object. Didn’t react. Didn’t boo. Didn’t hiss. Didn’t seem to object at all.
Of course, a firestorm erupted after BigGovernment.com made the video public and Sherrod has now been forced to “resign.”
But the once proud NAACP, which warmly greeted anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan and put out the welcome mat for America-hating Marxist Jeremiah Wright, has lost the ability to call itself an equal rights organization.

Maria, all that happened before Beck really said anything about the story. The regime quickly threw her under the bus, because as a relatively low level federal employee, she couldn't really help destroy the country. She seemed to be a good distraction from holder's and the naalcp's obvious racism. she did, in fact, say she is no longer racist later in the speech. She explained that the "real" racism is hating marxism. That we already knew, though, didn't we?
According to this video, and others I've seen on the internet, Breitbart claims that the purpose of his display of the Sherrod video was to show that a group like the NAACP, who claimed the Tea Party had racist elements, was themselves racist. He claims that the Sherrod video acts as evidence of this fact, due to their applause and laughter (or at least a lack of “boos and hisses”) during her discription of 'discrimination against the farmer'. I suggest it serves as no such evidence because Breitbart makes certain assumptions about what they're laughing at, and it certainly does not exhibit pandemonium. I could just as easily say they were actually laughing at themselves because they could relate her story to their own thoughts at the time--and that could be just as correct an interpretation, probably more so, as Breitbart's.
OK, how 'bout this. Make her the help-the-white-farmer czar. Then in 2012, she will leave with the rest of these racist clowns.
I was FACED with having to help a white person...I don't remember the last time I was FACED with having to help a black person. I just remember the time that I was given an opportunity to help and I did. Unless the person(black or white) you want to help is on the top of Mount Everest, you aren't faced with it. Because helping isn't really a challenge. Especially for her to stand up there with all her government funds; she could've just said the word and that white farmer would be helped.
To be Faced with something presents that whatever confronted you was a challenge that can be overcome. She just couldn't overcome her pride.
Same here, I was in Winnipeg, getting ready to leave a parking ramp, & the guy next to me needed a jump to get his car started. He got out his cables & I jumped his car. Skin color was'nt an issue, helping out when I could was. He thanked me, I said no problem, & we all moved on with our lives. The world would be a better place if things were that simple.

Our knee jerk reaction: she is a racist and the naacp are hypocritical. However once truths come out one has to think that something else is going on here. It is a bit too weird.
She deserves to lose her job REGARDLESS of what "epiphany" she had after she deliberately refused to help a white farmer to the fullest of her capability because of his race! Albeit, she learned to see beyond race afterwards... good for her; but the fact remains that she did what she did and she may very well have done this MULTIPLE times. Many people have changed their views and values based on experiences, but when MY taxes are paying for YOUR job those mistakes are inexcusable!
Honestly, my main issues with this entire affair is two-fold (particularly once I understood the full context of her remarks and the subsequent comments of support from the white farmer's wife):
First off, the way the woman was summarily ordered to resign by the obama administration - without the slightest whiff of due process - because the airing of the video ran counter to the narrative they were trying to construct concerning the "racist" Tea Party. Threw her right under the bus, they did. Took her job because they feared the political fallout. The cowards.
Second, the laughter and calls of approval from the NAACP members in the audience when she spoke of giving a white man less than her best efforts. The same NAACP that accused the Tea Partiers (falsely) of racism, openly hooting and guffawing over her tale of blatant discrimination.
Let's see the MSM go find those NAACP "officials" that attended the event and confront them with their actions. We'll all hold our breath waiting on that, eh?
