This one’s too bizarre for words. Just too damn bizarre for words.
A Dutch journalist named Joanie de Rijke went looking for the Taliban in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, she found them.
We’ll let the Brussels Journal take it from here:
“In November 2008 a Dutch journalist, Joanie de Rijke, was abducted by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. She was held captive, raped repeatedly, and released after six days for a ransom of 100,000 euros ($137,000). After her ordeal, she acknowledged that her captors ‘did horrible things to me,’ but added in several media interviews ‘They also respected me,’ and emphasized ‘They are not monsters.’”
Bizarrely, de Rijke said this ordeal didn’t make her angry. de Rijke said, “They also respected me.” How did she say they demonstrate this immense respect? Believe it or not, by giving her tea and biscuits between rape sessions.
There’s no explaining this case. Maybe it’s Stockholm Syndrome. Maybe it’s lunacy. Maybe it’s the left’s complete inability to confront evil. Take your choice.

I'm not buying her story...nope....
Funny, I have always respected women in an entirely different manner. Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way?
Stupid Euro cow.. raised as a Euro cow forever destined to be a Euro cow.
The perfect jounalist
Stolkholm Syndrome? Possible during and immediately after the incident. Not after one recoves sufficiently to begin public speaking on behalf of their rapists.

In this particular case, it appears that Joanie doesn't seem to know the true meaning of the word "respect." The fact that she feels no sense of outrage or anger over this brutal act of violence and barbarism shows that she has no respect for herself. Paradoxically, she says that the Taliban respected her. They respected her by repeatedly raping her. How sick is that! Obviously, she suffers from low self-esteem. Is this "Stockholm Syndrome" where she is identifying with her perpetrators in order to protect her mind from the ugly horrors of her ordeal? I doubt it. I haven't seen her try to convince the general public that the Taliban is really just a "good group of misunderstood guys." The Dutch are not known for prosecuting people for the crime of rape. Perhaps this is a cultural thing - a learned behavior in a European country where the views about men, women, and sexuality are radically different than what we recognize as being "normal." Liberal views about sexual battery against a woman fail to acknowledge that rape is an act of dehumanizing violence, not sexual prowess. And, more importantly, liberal views about rape fail to value women.
That's what she gets for wearing a sheepskin.
Liberal mock outrage is the most entertaining thing they do in my opinion...please, keep it up!
It's disgusting that you would use rape to promote your own beliefs about the media. If she is suffering from Stockholm's what does that say about you that you are making fun of her and turning her ordeal into a political weapon? You're disgusting.
Let's put it this way. What did she think she was getting into when she went looking for the Taliban? They're barbarians in every sense of the word. She's damned lucky that she still has her head on. That's probably the respect they showed her. You know, ordinarily, I don't think the explanation/justification "she asked for it" is acceptable. However, this is an extreme case. Ordinarily the "she asked for it" bit gets used when a woman finds herself in the wrong place accidentally. This woman worked hard at getting into the wrong place, with entirely predictable results.
It's like that idiot counselor who met her boyfriend at an anger management clinic, and wound up getting killed by him in a wait for it, fit of rage. No kidding? Yes, it was a crime perpetrated against her. However, she ignored the incredibly obvious warning sign and violated her professional integrity by dating a patient, so I figure it was just a bizarre form of suicide,
As to making fun of this woman? She does not have Stockholm's syndrome. That takes time, usually months to identify with the captors. She was there for what, a week? She is just a garden variety imbecile, and let abuse to her body and dignity take a back seat to her political/social beliefs, and as the trauma wasn't enough to disturb her enough for her to think being raped for a week was a bad thing, it ain't going to keep me up at night, either.
This isn't to say I would ridicule it -- I am more in stunned disbelief that she would turn such an event into her own private freak show, and figure either she's insane, or a whore. I wouldn't even call it an ordeal. If you can say people who raped you for a week treated you with respect, then I'd file that under "masochistic party".
It sure isn't my idea of a party, though.
Well the Taliban has finally figured out their business model...rape women for money. It looks like a profitable scheme in Europe anyway. Hey, Taliban, Come to the United States and try it!
It's amazing how neutered the whole of Europe has become......Even the women.
as long as the check cleared it wasn't rape
