Senior counterinsurgency adviser Col. Bob Crowley noted that “every data point was altered to present the best picture possible … Surveys, for instance, were totally unreliable but reinforced that everything we were doing was right and we became a self-licking ice cream cone.”

Bowe Bergdahl whines that the US treated him WORSE than the Taliban as he faces a life sentence for desertion. Maybe they should get a firing squad who will tell him they’re going to shoot him, that’s honest.

‘At least the Taliban were honest enough to say, “I’m the guy who’s gonna cut your throat”,’ the 31-year-old Army sergeant told the The Sunday Times of London in an interview released on Sunday.

Bergdahl Pleads Guilty to Desertion, Misbehavior

Bergdahl Pleads Guilty to Desertion, Misbehavior. We hope he gets life + 5 years. Good men died because of his actions. He needs to pay up.

The misbehavior charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, while the desertion charge is punishable by up to five years.

Bergdahl Expected to Plead Guilty, Avoid Trial. If this is correct it’s going to be a travesty. Men died and were maimed searching for this jerkoff.

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held captive by the Taliban for half a decade after abandoning his Afghanistan post, is expected to plead guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, two individuals with knowledge of the case said.

The most feared man in the world ended his life looking and living like Howard Hughes.

It appears that Osama bin Laden spent the last few years of his life holed up in the bedroom of a squalid, ramshackle “estate.” In videos captured by Navy Seals, the Al Qaeda leader is seen wrapped in a blanket and wearing a ratty ski cap while watching himself on TV.

No word on whether he was wearing Kleenex boxes instead of shoes.

Loser.

Another day, another new low for Obama. This time it’s on Afghanistan.

There’s a significant drop in Obama’s approval rating on handling Afghanistan, down 12 points from a year ago.

We doubt that President Obama’s staff is eager to show him the latest poll numbers every morning. Seems like not a day goes by in which he doesn’t hit a new low in one poll or another.

Like this new ABC News poll on his handling of the war in Afghanistan:

barack-obama-laughs
Obama laughs, America cries

A record 49 percent of Americans now disapprove of President Obama’s handling of the situation in Afghanistan, up 8 points since January. And those who disapprove “strongly” outnumber strong approvers by nearly a 2-1 margin.

With Obama holding his monthly national security meeting on Afghanistan today, the results show a significant drop in the president’s approval rating on handling the issue, down 12 points in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll from a year ago.

The change follows an ABC/Post poll last month in which a new low, 31 percent, said the war in Afghanistan has been worth fighting. Sixty-four percent said it is not worth fighting, with 49 percent feeling that way “strongly,” both record highs in ABC/Post polls.

Conventional wisdom says President Obama is fighting three wars, but that doesn’t include the one he’s fighting against the American people.

Florida Koran burning and its aftermath: Another example of how the media slants the news

We’re willing to call both sides wacko, but Reuters can’t bring itself to do the same. It only seems to have a problem with one side of this issue and we’re pretty sure you can probably guess which side it is.

Terry Jones, the wacko Christian preacher in Florida, burned a Koran in public the other day. That was followed by wacko Muslims rioting in Afghanistan.

We’re willing to call both sides wacko, but Reuters can’t bring itself to do the same. It only seems to have a problem with one side of this issue and we’re pretty sure you can probably guess which side it is.

terry-jones
Reuters calls Terry Jones, who burned a Koran, a radical, fundamentalist exremist

In an 859-word article headlined “Ten dead in Afghan Koran burning protests,” the huge European news service refers to Jones as “a radical fundamentalist Christian” and “extremist Christian preacher Terry Jones.” Yet no similar incendiary adjectives were used to describe the Muslim Afghan protesters who rioted in the streets of Kandahar and killed ten people. Quite to the contrary, they are called “deeply religious.”

For example, shouldn’t someone performing a suicide attack be considered extremist? Not to Reuters:

A suicide attack also hit a NATO military base in the capital Kabul, the day after protesters over-ran a U.N. mission in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif and killed seven foreign staff, in the deadliest attack on the UN in Afghanistan.

Taliban extremists are transformed into “burkha-clad insurgents” by Reuters:

In Kabul on Saturday, a small group of burkha-clad insurgents attacked a coalition base,

afghan-protest
Reuters says Afghani rioters who killed ten people and injured dozens are "deeply religious"

Riot all you want and commit mayhem for days on end, but if you’re Muslim Reuters will not use harsh adjectives to describe you:

A band of around 150 men who had taken to the streets to denounce the Koran burning set tires alight, smashed shops and assaulted an Afghan photographer, Reuters’ witnesses said. Some of the attackers were carrying guns.

The photographer was hit over the head and had his camera taken from him and smashed, by protesters who discussed killing him.

They’re demonstrators, not extremists and certainly not fundamentalists:

Around 5,000 demonstrators flooded into the streets…

The violence was extreme, perhaps, but not those who committed it:

Some were horrified by the extreme violence but not all had sympathy for the foreign dead.

And finally, the article concludes with this:

More volatile protests are possible across deeply religious Afghanistan…

So the way we understand this totally impartial article, Terry Jones is a “radical fundamentalist…extremist” because he burned a Koran in public, but the Afghan rioters who killed ten people, slit at least one throat, injured dozens, and destroyed private property are “deeply religious.”

And that, friends, is what Reuters calls balanced reportage.

2010: More civilians killed in one Mexican town than in all of Afghanistan

There were 3,111 civilians murdered in the city of Juarez in 2010 and 2,421 in the entire country of Afghanistan.

But…but…but how could that be? There’s a war going on in Afghanistan and the good people living along the Mexican border lead peaceful, Mayberry-ish lives. At least that’s what we thought Janet Napolitano said.

ciudad-juarez-murder
People in Ciudad Juarez dream of living in a nice, peaceful place like Afghanistan

CNSNews has the stunning details:

There were 3,111 civilians murdered in the city of Juarez in 2010 and 2,421 in the entire country of Afghanistan.

On a per capita basis, a civilian was 30 times more likely to be murdered last year in Juarez, where there are 1,328,017 inhabitants according to Mexico’s 2010 census, than in Afghanistan, where there are 29,121,286 people according to the CIA World Factbook.

The number of civilians killed in Afghanistan was compiled by the Congressional Research Service and published in a CRS report released on Feb. 3. The number of civilians killed in Juarez was compiled by Molly Molloy, a research librarian at New Mexico State University who maintains a count of murders Juarez and published it on the Frontera List Web site. Molloy’s work on civilian murders in Juarez was also referenced in a recent CRS report on Mexican drug cartels.

Much of the violence in Juárez is sparked by drug trafficking organizations battling over one of the major smuggling corridors into the United States.

Murder? Drugs? Trafficking? Smuggling? Corridors into the United States?

Hah! We laugh at such nonsense. Surely, if any of this was true, Janet Napolitano would have long ago rushed troops to the border.

Not exactly WikiLeaks: Robert Gibbs reveals that Joe Biden doesn’t know what he’s talking about

It’s no state secret that Joe Biden is dumb as a box of rocks. Need proof? When was the last time you saw a White House Press Secretary stand up and do damage control by announcing that the Vice President didn’t know what he was talking about.

It’s no state secret that Joe Biden is dumb as a box of rocks. Need proof? When was the last time you saw a White House Press Secretary stand up and do damage control by announcing that the Vice President didn’t know what he was talking about.

Politico.com has details of Washington’s worst kept secret:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs sought to clear up Vice President Biden’s comments on U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan on Monday, arguing that the rebuilding nation will follow a similar path that Iraq did.

Biden said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that “we’re going to be totally out of there come hell or high water by 2014.”

What Biden meant to say, Gibbs argued, was that the “combat role” in Afghanistan would end by 2014.

“I would point you to what was decided in Lisbon just a few weeks ago, that we will, much like we have in Iraq, transfer primary security of Afghanistan to the Afghans, as NATO and ISAF agreed, by the end of 2014, which would – which would end our combat – our combat commitment in Afghanistan,” Gibbs told reporters.

Pressed on whether troops will be completely gone, Gibbs said, “I think what the vice president was discussing was our combat role.”

Translation: “C’mon, guys. It’s bad enough that I have to stand up here and take heat for my boss’ incompetence. Do I really need to cover for the Vice Idiot, too? They don’t pay me enough for this.”

Attempt by Obama to appear man-like angers left wing constituents

Driving the liberals’ moral outrage is Obama’s recent trip to Afghanistan “…where he put on a leather bomber jacket and told U.S. troops: ‘You’re achieving your objectives. You will succeed in your mission.’“

Nothing makes liberals madder than a President in leather. If you don’t believe that check out the Huffington Post’s article entitled “A Hollow Bomber Jacket.”

obama bomber jacket
Nobody, and we mean nobody, is buying manly-man Obama in a bomber jacket

The article contends that the Obama presidency has been a miserable failure. When your liberal friends write things about you like “For the Obama presidency, moral collapse has taken on the appearance of craven clockwork, establishing a concentric pattern — doing immense damage to economic security at home while ratcheting up warfare overseas,” you have to wonder what your enemies are writing.

Driving the liberals’ moral outrage is Obama’s recent trip to Afghanistan “…where he put on a leather bomber jacket and told U.S. troops: ‘You’re achieving your objectives. You will succeed in your mission.’“

So now the left is comparing Obama to Johnson of all people, saying “At the end of a year with massive U.S. military escalation in Afghanistan, parallels with the Johnson administration’s unhinged Vietnam War are hard to miss”.

Of course, being compared to Johnson is a big come down for a man who was formerly compared to God.

Obama’s situation appears dire, lambasted by the right for being too soft and hated on by the left for being too hard, and no Goldilocks in sight.

Joe Biden Update #2: “Daddy is going to take off the training wheels.”

The always-loquacious vice president had a colorful message for the Afghans regarding the timeline for transferring security by 2014, a plan that will be outlined here at the NATO summit in Lisbon.

If it weren’t for the right wing blogosphere and, maybe, ABC’s Jake Tapper, the media would have given Joe Biden a free pass on his stupidity for the last two years.

joe-biden-daddy
Joe "Big Daddy" Biden talks tough

Tapper explains the Veep’s latest loopiness:

Last night Vice President Biden sat down for an interview with Larry King – his 49th appearance on the CNN host’s program.

The always-loquacious vice president had a colorful message for the Afghans regarding the timeline for transferring security by 2014, a plan that will be outlined here at the NATO summit in Lisbon.

“Daddy is going to start to take the training wheels off in October — I mean in next July, so you’d better practice riding,” he said.

July. October. Daddy. Uncle Joe. Uncle Sam. Win. Lose. It’s all sort of the same inside the head of Joe Biden.

Can you imagine if, say, Sarah Palin had uttered those same words? The liberal media would have said that “Daddy’s going to take off the training wheels” was the mother of all stupid statements.

But with Biden, a good liberal, what you’re hearing right now is the sound of silence. All crickets, no critics.

Here’s some news that should convince Democrats to support the war in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s dirty little secret: For centuries, Afghan men have taken boys, roughly 9 to 15 years old, as lovers.

afghan-boy-dancing
Just the show Afghan TV needs: Dancing For the Kandahars

Most people would think of it as Afghanistan’s dirty little secret. But President Obama may want to consider it a whole different brand of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.

Either way, this is the kind of news that could make even the most recalcitrant Democrat support the Afghanistan war. It’s like Proposition 8 on steroids.

It comes from SFGate:

For centuries, Afghan men have taken boys, roughly 9 to 15 years old, as lovers. Some research suggests that half the Pashtun tribal members in Kandahar and other southern towns are bacha baz, the term for an older man with a boy lover. Literally it means “boy player.” The men like to boast about it.

“Having a boy has become a custom for us,” Enayatullah, a 42-year-old in Baghlan province, told a Reuters reporter. “Whoever wants to show off should have a boy.”

In Kandahar, population about 500,000, and other towns, dance parties are a popular, often weekly, pastime. Young boys dress up as girls, wearing makeup and bells on their feet, and dance for a dozen or more leering middle-aged men who throw money at them and then take them home. A recent State Department report called “dancing boys” a “widespread, culturally sanctioned form of male rape.”. . .

“How can you fall in love if you can’t see her face,” 29-year-old Mohammed Daud told reporters. “We can see the boys, so we can tell which are beautiful.”

Even after marriage, many men keep their boys, suggesting a loveless life at home. A favored Afghan expression goes: “Women are for children, boys are for pleasure.”

Fundamentalist imams, exaggerating a biblical passage on menstruation, teach that women are “unclean” and therefore distasteful. One married man even asked Cardinalli’s team “how his wife could become pregnant,” her report said. When that was explained, he “reacted with disgust” and asked, “How could one feel desire to be with a woman, who God has made unclean?”

The bad news? That is one effed up society and one effed up religion.

The good news? PETA will be happy to that Afghanistan’s goats are safe and NAMBLA members will be racing over to Kandahar to join the war effort.

Guy who compared American troops to Genghis Kahn now wants to negotiate with an enemy that really fits the description

"Lurch, reporting for duty."

“They have personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in a fashion reminiscint of Genghis Kahn, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside….”

That’s how John Kerry described American troops in testimony before Congress after he returned from Vietnam, but it he could just as easily use the same words today to describe the Taliban, the cruel, vicious enemy with whom he now wants to negotiate.

The Hill has the story of Kerry’s hypocrisy:

Sen. John Kerry, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Friday that there is a “very active” effort under way to reach a negotiated political settlement with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Kerry (D-Mass.) acknowledged that “efforts” have begun after visiting Afghanistan and Pakistan this week, meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other officials.

“I can report without being specific that there are efforts under way. They are serious and I completely agree with that fundamental premise — and so does General [David] Petraeus and so does President Obama — there is no military solution,” he told NPR. “And there are very active efforts now to seek an appropriate kind of political settlement.”

…Kerry said that any “appropriate” settlement would have to include “a renunciation of al-Qaeda,” a “reduction of violence,” a “recognition of the constitutional rights of both Pakistan and Afghanistan and greater efforts to reduce sanctuaries for insurgency.”

Once a quitter, always a quitter. Once a hypocrite, always a hypocrite. Once a putz, always a putz.

Naturally, Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin rallied her band of America-hating lunatics in support of Manning outside the Marine Corps base at Quantico, Virginia.

CNN reports the details of the Manning lovefest:

Activists rallied outside the Marine Corps base at Quantico, Virginia, Sunday to applaud the man military officials suspect leaked scores of military documents to the WikiLeaks website — a 22-year-old Army private named Bradley Manning.

“We are here to say that if he, indeed, was the whistle-blower, then we are proud of him,” said Medea Benjamin, founder of anti-war group Code Pink. “In the United States that I know and love, transparency is a positive thing.”

Manning, who served as an intelligence analyst in Iraq, is the military’s focus in the investigation into the largest-ever intelligence leak in American history, to WikiLeaks.org.

He is being detained at Quantico pending a military investigation in a separate case, in which he’s charged with eight violations of the U.S. Criminal Code, including for allegedly leaking a secret military video from the Iraq war to WikiLeaks.

Let’s see if we understand this:

Dick Cheney was condemned for leaking the name of a secret agent, except he didn’t and she wasn’t. And now the same people who condemned Cheney support Manning.

It’s not easy being a liberal. Nor being a lunatic. But we repeat ourselves.

That sound you hear is Edward R. Murrow turning over in his grave. Even the left wing Huffington Post is amazed by this admission on the part of CBS:

CBS News’ #2 exec made a strange confession to Broadcasting & Cable magazine: the network isn’t covering Afghanistan as much as it used to because war correspondent Lara Logan is out on maternity leave.

“I would think that the biggest factor in how much less we’ve had on the air really has to do with Lara Logan’s pregnancy than it does with anything else,” CBS News Executive VP Paul Friedman said.

Friedman’s comments appeared in an article titled “The War You’re Not Watching,” which focused on the decline in coverage of the war in Afghanistan as news organizations shifted attention towards the oil spill. Incidentally, the article notes, this shift came as violence spiked in the country…

How strange is this video from Afghanistan? Don’t ask, don’t tell.

TheSmokingGun.com has the story of America’s elite troops in action. Dance action, that is:

In what may be the most entertaining music video homage ever shot in a war zone, a group of American soldiers stationed at a military base in southwest Afghanistan star in a lip-synced version of Lady Gaga’s hit “Telephone.” The video, which yesterday began to spread online, was filmed recently inside what appears to be a garage at the Forward Operating Base in Farah Province. Posted to YouTube a week ago, the 3:45 production–complete with props, signs, and costumes–features an all-male cast from the 82nd Airborne Division. The video, which can be viewed above, was the brainchild of Aaron Melcher, a married 24-year-old soldier who graduated in 2004 from North Carolina’s Gramercy Christian School. Melcher opens the video in a pas de deux, of sorts, with fellow enlistee Justin Baker, who is not nearly as enthusiastic a dancer as the gyrating Melcher, who incorporated elements of the original video’s choreography in his desert remake.

Yeah, we know this video has become an internet sensation. But we prefer the ones where lots of bad guys get blown up.

But then, we don’t like Dancing With The Stars since Chuck Liddel got voted off, either.
