Is Rick Sanchez (a) stupid, (b) a racist, (c) a stupid racist, or (d) none of the above?

Mark this day in history. If we’re not mistaken, this is the first time any conservative website has ever defended Rick Sanchez. Of course, we’re forced to defend him by calling him stupid, but so be it.

Jessica Yellin guested on Rick’s CNN show Monday to discuss the “Is Obama a Muslim” issue.

NewsBusters.org describes the story:

Jessica Yellin explained that “this is the first time he’s talked about it since the polls showing how many Americans believe him to be Muslim came out” and that “you get the sense that he’s been sort of through this. He wants to set the record straight, but he really does seem to accept that he’s not going to convince everyone, and he’s not going to spend a lot of time and energy on something that’s not going to change.”

Sanchez replied to Yellin full of frustration: “I’m just sitting here just shaking my head. He is the cotton-picking president of the United States!” He continued with another slighter gaffe: “If the president of the United States doesn’t have enough of a bully pulpit to convince people of a lie – that a lie is a lie, I should say, then – you know, where are we? What kind of planet are we living on? What the hell is going on here?”

Moments later, after taking a commercial break, Sanchez came back with an apology, crediting his Twitter followers for spotting his error:

SANCHEZ: This is great. This is what works about having a conversation with my viewers throughout this newscast, because you know that I’m here on Twitter and I read what you write during the commercial breaks. And many of you are pointing out a fault that I just- a faux pas that I just made, and I want to apologize for it, because I obviously didn’t mean any disrespect or anything when I said that.”

Obviously, Rick Sanchez isn’t racist. He merely used a figure of speech – a perfectly acceptable figure of speech – but because of liberal political correctness gone wild, one for which he felt obligated to apologize.

Besides, Rick’s a liberal so no one ever would have seriously suggested that he’s racist. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about his stupidity.

  • Amazing how a lib can just "aplogize" for his faux pas and all is OK. If Rush had said this, Sharptoon would be organizing some type of event to march somewhere and give a speech about something ....

I bet Rick had a little spittle too when he said that ....

      • During the Elian Gonzalez affair the "New Times" of Miami/Broward called him a solider of Castro. (or something similar) His parents tried to escape communism, and Rick supports it.

        • "His parents tried to escape communism, and Rick supports it."

His parents were successful in escaping Cuba but can't escape their raving lunatic for a son. Even poorer excuse for a man.

          • That's what I don't get. I have met dozens of people who fled communist nations or authoritarian regimes from all over the world, Bulgaria, Georgia, CzechRep, Russia, Iran, Laos, Nigeria, & wherever else, they despise what they fled & want nothing to do with that crap. Sanchez was blessed to have been able to escape the communist craphole that is Cuba, he should be a little less sympathetic toward the idiology his parrent helped him escape.

          • I only know one person who escaped from a former soviet nation who misses the old days... that's because he was a political commissar in Poland and had to flee for his life when communism fell apart because his neighbors were going to rip him limb for limb. One day cock of the walk, next day a feather duster. Sanchez has no excuse other than some fantasy of growing up to be a commie big shot had his parents stayed on the Isle of Dread.

  • Hey, editor -- I wouldn't say that "Obviously, Rick Sanchez isn’t racist" -- after all, in the current libtard idiom, if you are not guilty of that behavior, go ahead and paste the label on him anyway.

You know, he's just another equal opportunity hire, not there because of what he *can* do, but because the pool of qualified applicants from his particular demographic was that shallow, talent-wise. We shouldn't be so hard on him, expecting anything like competence or anything like that. I propose we refer to him as "token Sanchez" from now on until such a happy day as when actual talent or competence is discovered.

  • I just love it when an overeducated idiot tries to use the language that ordinary people use, and fails miserably, in context, appropriateness, and just plain situational awareness. I also love it when the media shows their bias in not going for the jugular like they would if the (R)ed flag were next to his name. Do we really think his apology would be accepted?

I feel, you know, that big word, 'schadenfreude".

You know, his statement was wrong not just in the term "cotton-picking", but also in the term 'president of the United States'. The Non-Achiever In Chief really doesn't deserve that title. I'm thinking that the term 'failed' belongs in front of it, like this "Barack Hussein Obama, *failed* president of the United States, made yet another speech full of socialist tripe and empty platitudes."

  • Rick Sanchez is a prime example of the Left's belief that diversity trumps excellence. The guy is a dolt, but since he is Latino, he's given greater latitude...all in the name of diversity. So instead of CNN hiring the best available, regardless of race, and producing a quality news program, they're stuck with a "diverse" group of people that never would have made the first cut in normal circumstances...not because of their race, but because they stink. And their ratings reflect that...

You can also add another descriptive term to Rick Sanchez...ball-less. I would have had more respect for him had he mentioned the Twitter responses, and labeled them as silly...which they were...

  • As dumb as Sanchez can be/is, this was nothing. This is the PC Speech Nazis beating up on an easy target. Sanchez did nothing wrong here, he just used a very old saying & got beat up over it.

  • Think Sanchez meant to say "If he ever shows his birth certificate, he'll be the cotton-picking muslim president of the United States!”
