This news has us pretty upset. Why, we tell you, the Al Sharpton is the last person we ever thought would be crooked. He just seems like such a fine, upstanding, respectable sort of chap. After all, he’s a reverend, you know.
The New York Daily News has the details that have us so depressed:
The Rev. Al Sharpton paid himself a six-figure salary for the first time last year – even as his civil rights group drowns in red ink and his tax bill hit nearly $1 million.
After back-to-back years in which he took no compensation from the National Action Network,Sharpton pulled down $250,000 last year, the organization’s federal tax filings show.
The payday comes even as his group, a Harlem-based nonprofit organization, lists $1.1 million in unpaid city, state and federal payroll taxes as of Jan. 1, the group’s auditor told the Internal Revenue Service.
At the same time, the reverend has three outstanding warrants totaling $988,000 in unpaid personal income taxes from 2002 to 2007, the state Department of Taxation and Finance says.
Well, we suspect that you are just as shocked by this revelation as we are. In fact, we’re sure you’ll agree that this is just some phony baloney scheme cooked up by whitey to keep the black man down.

why are you surprised. here is a man who gained national fame accusing 4 white men of raping a black teenage girl. stuck his nose in the duke univ. rape case also. turns out both were untrue.
Failure to pay taxes is not a crime, lots of people owe taxes and are not criminals, just debtors (or deadbeats). The burden of proof is on the IRS, if Sharpton has filed his tax returns timely and reported all his income, the IRS would have a very difficult time proving criminal intent. Sharpton is a liar and a race baiter, a guy who likes to live large while not paying his bills. He's a intellectual and moral fraud but not necessarily a criminal.
From the news story it appears that Sharpton is paying his personal tax liability in installments while the National Action Network is seeking to compromise its tax debt, both actions are standard IRS policies. But the taxing authorities should do a complete audit of Al and the NAN looking for shady transactions, unreported income and other financial shenanigans.

National Action Network-an organization solely there to get al some action. Show me one place they made a school better, lobbied to get kids vouchers, helped a single mother get her kids moved out of the projects-anything-anything-anything but flying that miscreant around the world, getting him laid, and/or hanging out with movie stars. Does the DOTF have a hard time finding him? Is he hidden? I would think for that kind of money, they could offer a 10% reward and one of the news stations that have him on incessantly to blather on how everyone is a racist, could make a nice amount of coin.
And could get spectacular ratings while having him arrested while on one of their programs!!

Exactly. It is easy to blame the entertainment industry but in the end it is the viewers and their dollars that make this happen. I would have been happy to see "Blago" dissappear into nothing, but this world is crazy and completely messed up. Doing bad things is now good and doing good things is bad...
