We’re told that Belgium is Islamophobic for banning the burkha! That France is Islamophobic for banning the burkha! But now that meme has been upset because – are you ready? – Syria has banned the burkha.

The Syrian minister of higher education has prohibited the entrance of veiled female students into universities and colleges throughout the country, news agencies reported Sunday.
Dr. Ghitath Barakat explained that the donning of face veils, which cover everything but the woman’s eyes, “opposes the morals and values of the academy”.
Barakat’s decree followed similar ones approved by a number of European parliaments, including Belgium and France.
Racists! Those damn Syrians are racists. Evil, Islamophobic racists.

There's also a practical reason no one has mentioned. Awful easy to hide a "suicide vest" under one.
I just visited Montreal, Canada and the amount of women covered in a Burka is astonishing. The thing that I noticed the most was that their husbands and boyfriends are waltzing right beside them wearing the latest fashionable t-shirts and shorts while they check out all the hot non-muslim chicks that walk by.
I couldn't help but think that these women are slaves to these men just as much as if they were wearing a dog collar and a leash.
It must be weird to talk to a person that has a face covering and there is no medical reason for it. I personally don't like it for it is to me a symbol of oppression. Even if a person may not be necessarily handsome and/or has scars on his or her face, if he or she doesn't want to cover their faces they shouldn't be made to. However if a woman really and truly wants to wear the burkha she should be allowed to do so. In my understanding though a lot of such cases she feels compels to do so mainly because it is a tradition expected of her by her family/husband.
If we are talking private instituations or places the company has the right to indicate how its members or employees or visitors are to behave and dress to be allowed in. As for public/government places I guess one must leave it to the majority. If the majority feels that such things should not be worn then it is what it is. Such things acceptable in one cultures SHOULDN'T be enforced on another completely different culture and that is of course what a lot of Muslims want to do enforce their laws and cultures on other cultures, that is not right.
The "women" (in quotes because who knows what they are) look like the angel of death... Personally, I don' t think anyone should cover their face in public. You can't identify them, you can't tell if they are friend or foe.
Some folks should be required to wear burkhas.
Scottish Kilts are as religious as Burkhas. 30 - 40 years ago it would have been rare to see burkha-clad women in the middle east, today it's very popular due to the violence women would face from muslim men for not wearing a burkha. Burkhas are a north African cultural thing that muslims adopted in order to exert greater control over the women they own, the Koran doesn't mention them.
Down here in Southern California would the local police and bank employees mind if a Canadian walked in wearing a heavy coat and balaclava? It's a cultural thing.....

Maybe not, but I'm sure as hell they'd object to them wearing a ski mask over their face, which is in effect, what wearing a burkha is.
