As if determined to prove that there’s absolutely nothing into which they won’t stick their collective (and collectivist) noses, the Illinois Senate voted 51-4 last week to slap controls on bowling shoes.

According to the Springfield State Journal-Register, “The measure would require alley owners to clearly place signs near entrances and exits warning that bowling shoes are ‘specialized footwear’ meant only to be worn inside the alley. Users are cautioned that they could slip or stumble if they wear the shoes outside in rain, snow or other debris and then come back in.”
Senator Donne Trotter (D-Chicago) denied a suggestion by Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) that he wanted bowlers to wear helmets (earlier this year, senators voted down another Trotter bill that would have mandated helmets for motorcycle riders).
Keep one thing in mind: when bowling shoes are outlawed, only outlaws will have bowling shoes.
