As a former administrative law judge described it, if a claimant were 45 years or older, limited to sedentary work, and claimed an inability to communicate in English, they were a “slam-dunk for benefits.”
That is true even if those applying for benefits reside in an area, such a Puerto Rico, where English is not the predominant language.
The new rule, set to take effect April 27, will end that by eliminating the inability to communicate in English as a qualifying factor in Disability Insurance benefit determinations.
$23 Billion in Credits Claimed by Illegal Immigrants Would be Canceled Under GOP Tax Bill. The time for crossing the border illegally and saying ‘gimme’ should end. Social Security is not slush fund.
The current president of the United States seems not to know how anything works. But that’s no problem when you’re willing to just make crap up.
The current president of the United States seems not to know how anything works. But that’s no problem when you’re willing to just make crap up. Ironically, the world’s smartest man apparently considers his ignorance a feature and not a bug.
Case in point: The President has repeatedly implied that social security payments might stop if the debt ceiling issue is not resolved.
Step One: President speaks. Step Two: Push the button.
Stanford Law Professor Michael McConnell calls the president on this egregious lie:
The Social Security trust fund holds about $2.4 trillion in U.S. Treasury bonds, which its trustees are legally entitled to redeem whenever Social Security is running a current account deficit. Thus, if we reach the debt ceiling ….this is what will happen. The Social Security trust fund will go to Treasury and cash in some of its securities, using the proceeds to send checks to recipients. Each dollar of debt that is redeemed will lower the outstanding public debt by a dollar. That enables the Treasury to borrow another dollar, without violating the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling is not a prohibition on borrowing new money; it is a prohibition on increasing the total level of public indebtedness. If Social Security cashes in some of its bonds, the Treasury can borrow that same amount of money from someone else.
Addition and subtraction, maybe that’s his problem.
George Soros promised Obama if he took the job, there would be no math. Or history, or science, or geography. Just talking and vacations.
More likely telling the truth is just one more thing that’s above the man’s pay grade.
Recently Social Security began paying out more than it took in taxes, years ahead of schedule. Even worse, the leak in the box will soon become a flood.
Perhaps a better headline would have said “a bunch of a-holes in it”, namely Congress. Recently Social Security began paying out more than it took in taxes, years ahead of schedule. Even worse, the leak in the box will soon become a flood.
Think of the bucket as the Social Security Trust Fund
Bob Krumm explains:
Imagine that my wife and I both work and that she sets aside 15% of her income for retirement and gives that 15% to me. I go through the years spending all of my income, plus all of the 15% that she gives me, plus a little bit more. Eventually, my wife starts to ask questions about her retirement fund. “Relax,” I tell her. “You’ve been ‘earning’ 5% interest on that money.” And I hand her a nice little official looking annual accounting statement to that effect. Unbeknownst to her, I’m only adding that 5% interest to that amount that I “owe” her. In truth, I’ll never pay her that money. It doesn’t exist. It’s already spent, and I don’t have the income earning potential to ever repay it. But–and this is the key point–that amount I owe my wife is not a debt in the legal sense. Sure, I still have other debts; remember, I’ve been spending all of my income, plus 15% of hers, plus a little bit more. That “little bit more” is money that I owe to outside creditors. And I will have to pay them back or they will make my life miserable. When my wife finds out that there is no money for her, my life will be miserable too. But that’s a different kind of misery–one that will lead to a bitter and nasty divorce.
We are the wife, the political class is the husband. When the wife finds out, the husband will be out on his ass. That’s what all the fuss is really all about.
Walter Williams: “Just give me 100 acres of land and I will give up all of my rights to Social Security. How do you like that, Congress?”
Walter Williams, professor of economics at George Mason University and frequent fill-in host for Rush Limbaugh, has come up with an interesting way to save Social Security from bankruptcy.
Let’s let the ol’ Perfesser explain it in his own words:
“By the way, before I leave the subject of what government should be doing, I have an idea for the Congress to deal with, let’s say the insolvency of Social Security. The government owns a whole lot of wasting assets. Namely, they own most of the land in Nevada, Utah, I believe California and Alaska.
I’ll tell you what I would do – I will make a deal with the United States Congress. I will exchange all of my Social Security payments in the future for a hundred acres of land in Alaska anywhere — and they can keep the mule they promised my ancestors. Just give me 100 acres of land and I will give up all of my rights to Social Security. How do you like that, Congress?”
The mule reference of course, refers to the United States government’s pledge to give each freed slave 40 acres and a mule. Because, yes, Walter Williams is black.
Of course, this is radio so that racist Rush Limbaugh probably didn’t know that when he gave Williams the fill-in gig.
By the way, we’re also take the same deal, but we’re slightly more selective than Williams. If the government would be so kind, we would like our 100 acres to be on a nice bluff overlooking the Pacific somewhere in Hawaii. And in return for being less selective we’ll settle for less land. Maybe even just ten acres.
That Russ Carnahan, he’s funny. Really funny. The Democrats’ candidate for United States Senator from Missouri cracks his constituents up every time he goes into his “social security is stable” routine. It’s a classic. Comedy gold. A regular laughapalooza.
That Russ Carnahan is funnier than Steven Colbert. A lot funnier. Why he’s a regular Al Franken. No, wait – we take that back, because the words “Al Franken” and “funny” don’t really belong in the same sentence.

Turns out a liberal advocacy group got its tits in a wringer because former Senator Alan Simpson accurately described the situation we find ourselves in with Social Security.
When did liberals pass the law that outlawed colorful language?
Turns out a liberal advocacy group got its tits in a wringer because former Senator Alan Simpson accurately described the situation we find ourselves in with Social Security.
CNN has the story of asinine advocacy:
Former Senator Alan Simpson is in trouble for telling the truth
An advocacy group is calling for the ouster of former Sen. Alan Simpson, the co-chairman of President Obama’s bipartisan debt commission, who described Social Security as a “milk cow with 310 million tits!” in an email.
Ashley Carson, executive director of the Older Women’s League, wrote in a blog post in April that Simpson is targeting Social Security to fix the deficit even though it “doesn’t contribute” to the country’s debt problem. She also accused Simpson of “disgusting ageism and sexism” in characterizing those who oppose cuts to benefits as “Gray Panthers” and “Pink Panthers.”
In his email to Carson, which was sent Monday night, Simpson said he is defending Social Security, not trying to undermine it, and referred her to information showing the program’s long-range shortfalls.
He went on: “I’ve made some plenty smart cracks about people on Social Security who milk it to the last degree. You know ’em too. It’s the same with any system in America. We’ve reached a point now where it’s like a milk cow with 310 million tits! Call when you get honest work!”
On Wednesday afternoon, Simpson released a letter to Carson apologizing. “I can see that my remarks have caused you anguish, and that was not my intention,” he wrote.
There’s only one thing worse than the advocacy group being upset by Simpson’s choice of words. And that’s the fact that Simpson chose to apologize.
We take you back three years to President Bush’s State of the Union address from three years back when Democrats cheered the defeat of social security reform. Just look at the maniacal look on Hillary Clinton’s face. That says it all.
Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus hopes that Democrats notice that big turd floating in the punchbowl sometime soon. Because they’ve been ignoring it for years.
Charles Ponzi, architect of the Social Security program
“Social Security could face default within two years,” he said. “The situation is much worse than people realize, especially because of the problems brought on by the recession, near depression.”
“…People don’t seem to know that,” he continued. “What this recession has done to Social Security is pretty alarming.”
“We’ve known for 15 years that we were going to have to make adjustment to Social Security, but we still thought that was seven or eight years down the road. But if things don’t improve very quickly, we’re going to be dealing with that problem before we know it.”
And with that we take you back three years to President Bush’s State of the Union address when Democrats cheered the defeat of social security reform. Just look at the maniacal look on Hillary Clinton’s face. That says it all.
When will Obama appoint a Ponzi Scheme Czar to study the problem?
