Michelle Obama’s wacky plan to build 6,000 salad bars in public schools

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Ding Dongs are out. Arugula and balsamic vinaigrette are in.

Tonic.com has the details of the White House’s latest meddling in your life:

Michelle Obama paid a friendly visit to Riverside Elementary School in Little Havana, Fla. today. While there, she announced a plan to bring 6,000 salad bars into public schools across the country through the campaign “Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools.” Riverside is the first school to enjoy an open bar — salad bar that is.

The First Lady met with students this afternoon and complimented them on the garden from which they’ve been harvesting tomatoes, eggplant and kale. She explained that it’s important to eat vegetables because they improve brain function and learning.

It’s certainly not easy to make kids think veggies are cool, but if anyone can, Mrs. O has a good shot.

Absolutely. Because Mrs. O is the coolest person in the world other than her husband and kids in Little Havana can’t wait to obey her every word.

“There are studies that show that kids who are eating their fruits and vegetables on a regular basis actually do better in school,” she told students. “Did you all know that? So that’s one of the reasons why all of this is important and why we need to make vegetables interesting to you guys … We have here this beautiful salad bar, because what we’ve also found is that if you take vegetables and you organize them in a pretty, delicious way, kids like you may actually eat them more — because it looks kind of cool, doesn’t it?,” she said, according to the White House.

Seriously? Have you seen the size of the First Lady’s ass? A few more salads couldn’t hurt that situation. And we’re pretty confident that the only thing bigger than the woman’s ass is her ego.

Don’t look now, Michelle, but if you organized some Ding Dongs and Cheetos in a pretty, delicious way right next to those vegetables, there’d still be a big pile of vegetables left at the end of the day.

We’ve told this story before, but it’s worth repeating. Mrs Editor teaches at a public school. Every day the cafeteria ladies load up the kids’ plates with free, healthy food. The kids immediately walk over to the trash cans and dump it. Before the lunch period is over, the cans are overflowing with that free, healthy food.

But, of course, Mrs Editor’s school doesn’t have a fancy, government-supplied salad bar.

Surely, that’ll make the kids want arugula.

  • I think it would be hilarious if it is found out that terrorist took their latest inspiration on bio-terrorism from this...

  • If you think that any of you are getting more exercise or eating better in comparison to any of these kids your kidding yourselves. AND I assure you, it has very little to do with working the pounds of physically. Find out what every veggie and fruit you eat has been sprayed, gassed or washed with. Look at the ingredients of every product you consume. Look up which ingredients are a derivative of Corn, Soy or some Gum... then you will see. Yes, Soro's or Monsanto did have their hand in everything that goes into your mouth.. even if you think it is healthy. Kind of makes me laugh the "Bing" photo of the day... a nice Soy field in Brazil owned by Soro's! There is no such thing as healthy in America. We are a nation of Fat and Happy... we have been "fed" a whole lie for the last 70 years. No one is eating anything healthy unless they grew it themselves, milked it themselves, or raised and slaughtered their own. They will be outlawing that soon too. You won't even be able to eat your own chicken eggs.
Former Monsanto executive Michael R. Taylor IS the FDA's deputy commissioner for foods sense January of this year. Devil in the details????
On Monday, November 29, a cloture vote on Senate Bill 510 will determine if the bill then goes immediately to the Senate floor for a final vote. Cloture requires 60 votes. This will threaten the existence of small, independent farms and will limit the food choices of consumers. As written - even with the proposed amendments - the bill is fundamentally flawed. S 510 will not improve food safety. Instead it will bury farmers in regulations and paperwork and consolidate agricultural production into fewer, larger industrial facilities, and you can bet "who" those will be!! I suggest everyone and their dog get on this one today and call your state reps. This is going to sail right through if no one does!!! We are in BIG trouble; this is by far the scariest thing I have ever seen them try to pass yet!

  • Can you imagine salad bars in grammar or middle schools? Picture hundreds of squirming, shouting, sneezing, nose runny, food fighting kids lining up for wilted lettuce and pale tomatoes. Kids naturally destest salads and only eat them under duress. I couldn't make my three kids eat their veggies and my parents couldn't make me eat them either. No self-respecting kid will eat greens.

The health issues are daunting, school cafeteria salad bars will need industrial strength sneeze shields to protect the greens from snotty nosed 10 year olds. Too, are the teachers going to make sure every child washes his hands after going to the boy's/girl's room? Never happen. Our public schools will become mini Third World cities.

    It's gonna be ugly.

    • Elrond..

I forgot about the lovely pale tomatoes. Here in Northern Illinois, most restaurants give you those even during tomato season. Hold me back, my buds are a tingling already!!

  • I think that if Physical Education (P.E.) wasn't such a joke perhaps a lot of the obesity in children wouldn't be as bad as it is. Of course nutrition is important but that has to start at home. If it is not at home there is nothing much that a school is going to do to change the habits learnt from the house. It all comes down to personal responsibility and parents have to get involved and be the primary caregivers of good nutrition and of good behaviors (exercising, etc). Putting salads bars is not going to solve the problems, telling kids to eat vegetables is not going to solve the problem. The school can only do so much. It will be wasteful program just like everything else has been.

    • The problem is a lack of responsibility on the parents' part. But you can't grow big government by telling people to get their heads out of their asses and feed their kids right. This whole "Big Brother will take care of you" mentality the Left has subscribed to is scary.

  • I used to make my children eat a small salad every day. They only wanted lettuce - no carrots or radishes or onions or ANYTHING else...just ICEBERG lettuce. They also wanted plenty of cheese and ranch dressing. So, needless to say, I discontinued serving salads to the fam.

Maybe if MO had ever made meals for her family, she would realize and actually care about the wastefulness of this useless government program. The next thing you know schools will be PAYING the kids to eat salads like some schools are paying kids for good grades.

  • now just a cottin' pickin' minute. You can sell vegetables to children and IHTM broke the story months ago. See Hot Peta Chics and their Cucumbers.
Sell the salad bar as a cluster feed and you'll hit a home run with the little jocks and jocketts
