In case you’ve tried to block the whole ObamaCare debate from your mind, this video clip shows President Obama sternly correcting George Stephanopolous when the ABC host called the individual mandate “a tax.”
Oh, how times change. Now the administration is arguing in court that it really is a tax.
Spectator.org has the mind-boggling story:
In order to protect the new national health care law from legal challenges, the Obama administration has been forced to argue that the individual mandate represents a tax — even though Obama himself argued the exact opposite while campaigning to pass the legislation.
Late last night, the Obama Department of Justice filed a motion to dismiss the Florida-based lawsuit against the health care law, arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction and that the State of Florida and fellow plaintiffs haven’t presented a claim for which the court can grant relief. To bolster its case, the DOJ cited the Anti-Injunction Act, which restricts courts from interfering with the government’s ability to collect taxes.
The Act, according to a DOJ memo supporting the motion to dismiss, says that “no suit for the purpose of restraining the assessment or collection of any tax shall be maintained in any court by any person, whether or not such person is the person against whom such tax was assessed.” The memo goes on to say that it makes no difference whether the disputed payment it is called a “tax” or “penalty,” because either way, it’s “assessed and collected in the same manner” by the Internal Revenue Service.
Would it be too harsh if we called these guys lying sacks of excrement?
(We think that may have been the second time today we used that phrase “lying sacks of excrement” in regard to the Obama administration. We apologize for our lack of originality.
This is also the second time today we’ve apologized. We also apologize for trying to be accurate. Oops. That makes it three times.

Well it looks like Hussein does need the Websters dictionary after all. Look up the words: "impeachment" and/or "one term president". So, leftist sychophants how do you like your golden child now?
Maybe Barack was worried George had looked up the word "tacks" and wanted to assure him what kind of tacks we're talking about.
I love how he attacks George for looking up the definiition of taxes in the dictionary. No Hussein, he looked it up because he knew you were going to try to manipulate the english language and try to not call it a tax.
Then he just waves off the statement of "his critics" as just another thing that they are accusing him of doing. He acts like he is a misunderstood victim and that everyone else is stupid. Holy crap he is patronizing.
Omar, from my experience dealing with liberoo's that is exactly what they want.
For some damn reason, liberals want...need...craive....desire the gubment to control every aspect of life.
And not just for them selfs, but us too! For our own good! and the childen...think of the children..This is the root of my hatred for modern post hippie liberal-ism.
You see some people not all, some people desire a controlling force in their lives. The reason may be because they KNOW that left to their own devices they are made to make bad decisions. Bad decisions that lead to bad consequences for themselves (and if they care enough others). Bad consequences that they do not want to pay themselves. They want ANOTHER who is stronger and mightier to take that weight off them (the weight of their bad decisions and the consequences that come through) and wipe the slate clean AND for this person to direct their lives so they won't get into that pile of crap anymore. Now that is NOT necessarily a bad thing nor a weak thing it is actually very human. In fact in many ways it is the basis for religion. Faith aside, Religion (not Islam*, not any demonic one, etc) is a very utilitarian, pragmatic and dynamic institution. It helps many keep themselves in check which of course contributes to the well being of the society in general OR at least that is the plan. Of course human beings being imperfect and with the ability to promote and live in great evil, mess up the simplest of plans and even destroy the point of something that can be useful like religion.
There are some that can survive the world and its issues and drama without the need of a controlling force other than their own free will. Not necessarily a sign of strength just saying that is how they life their lives. In some themselves and their own philosophies can be formed into a religion per se.
The problem with liberals is that they look to other fallible imperfect human beings like themselves to control their lives. It is madness! The worship of Government and Government leaders is a form of religion that is highly destructive. Looking to a human being for salvation is not the way to go. It never yields anything good. In all reality humans are truly NOT MEANT to lord over other people. Be guides, shepards, mentors, friends, accountants, advisors of people, yes but not rulers nor lords nor gods.
Liberals look then to a group of people and an easily corrupt entity like government to take over their lives and you are right in their self delusion of right not only do they want this for themselves but they want it for others... perhaps to feel that they are right and if EVERYONE accepts their way of thinking then they cannot be wrong. It is truly madness.
* In my humble opinion
You actually do NOT have to buy car insurance unless you decide to own a car. You are only really required to insure other motorists and do not have to insure your vehicle.
It is an intellectually vapid arguement for mandated health insurance levels yet no one ever challenges the talking heads. Nice job that George actually went to the dictionary. Maybe next time he'll pick up an economics book.
That is correct. You can choose to ride a bicycle, walk, take the bus, or whatever other method of transportation you desire.
But now the Imperial Federal Government will require us subjects to buy health insurance for the "privilege" of being alive and drawing breath.
The talking heads don't seem to connect the dots on how this can open the floodgates for government mandating individual citizens to do pretty much anything, whether we want to or not, so long as the politicians justify it as being "for our own good."
And you know how those mandates will be ultimately enforced...
Land of the free, eh?
"Land of the free, eh?"
Omar, I think you erred and meant to say, Land of the FEE!
Obama was lying then and he's continued to lie all along. Like the comment he made about not "taking over every sector of the economy."
depends what your defintion of a "is" is. You can call it a fee, mandate. Its still a tax. Government authority forcing you to pay
