Eric Holder would like to position last weekend’s narrow escape in Times Square as evidence of his department’s remarkable competence, but Shepard Smith ain’t buying it.
In this clip, he repeatedly emphasizes that the narrow escape should be attributed to luck instead of Justice Department skill.
Mediaite has the telling tale of the Times Square dud:
Covering the latest Justice Department press conference with Fox News correspondent Catherine Herridge, Smith repeatedly emphasized that the bomb was faulty, police were notified of the suspicious vehicle only after the bomb’s detonator had failed. In his opinion, Attorney General Eric Holder was giving too much credit to the civilian who notified the authorities as the bomb had already “gone off” when he called the police. Holder had stated that the alert bystander “helped save lives, and thwarted a potentially devastating attack,” to which Smith replied: “this bomb was not thwarted – this bomb failed.”
Smith’s issue was not with the civilian, who he praised, but with the federal authorities, which he speculated wanted to be able to use the instance as proof of their successes in the future:
“I can think of a lot of different reasons that they would want this. For instance, down the road, next time something happens, they can say ‘we thwarted Christmas Day’ and ‘we thwarted Times Square,’ but that wouldn’t be the case. And part of our job, I think, is to not allow revisionist history to take over.”
Revisionist history is bad enough, but this administration is so brazen that we also have to worry about revisionist current events.

holding government accountable is the job of journalist, not to act as lapdogs or guard dogs, but as watch dogs
shep may be a dem, but i still love the guy, and this is why.
Shep,Shep,Shep why must you insist on introducing the FACTS against what our great administration says? Are you trying to make them look like lying, incompetant fools?
This has been the tactic of the progressives for the last 100 years. They are always changing and re-interpreting history to suit their agenda. And when the right makes a mistake, the left demands an apology from the right, but when the left makes a mistake, the left demands an apology from the entire nation.
Sorry, I meant unknowledgeable!
Now you know why Fox news is #1. EOD should have been called immediately, superiors should have alerted, and evacuation should have occurred almost immediately. The FIRE dept. is the entity that realized it was a bomb. The beat cops never figured it out. They called NYFD to put out a fire, NOT the bomb squad to handle a bomb. NYPD response was abysmal! Thank God the ignorance of the bomber trumped the ignorance of the first responders. Did you know bomb makers often make their bombs to explode in the presence of radio waves? No one stopped using their hand held radios. Pathetic amateurs, totally knowledgeable about bomb protocol. Sad, very sad.
Maybe Gibbs the limp phallus could answer some questions about that....but he probably won't, because we all know Fox is not a "Real" news channel...like MSNBC
