Unbelievable: California bans American flag

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), however, has stymied Orcutt, California’s American flag monument, calling it an impermissible act of “public expression.”

Just a few miles down the road from IHateTheMedia.com’s intergalactic headquarters you’ll find the lovely little village of Orcutt, California. There’s trouble in Orcutt.

A private group raised $60,000 to erect a 60-foot flagpole and monument at the entrance to the community’s Old Town section. Since it’s located right between a freeway exit and a park-and-ride lot, it may not be the most picturesque spot. But no one ever said patriotism had to be picturesque.

Plans for the monument show a 60-foot American flag surrounded by pillars representing each branch of the military.

So far, so good. But now The Weekly Standard reveals what happened when the State of California got involved:

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), however, has stymied the effort, calling it an impermissible act of “public expression.”

The Orcutt Pioneer reports that, although the Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association (OTORA) “intends its flag as a tribute and symbol of freedom” — which would seem to be how most Americans would view their nation’s flag — “CalTrans sees it as a form of speech or expression, something more personal than patriotic.”

OTORA, a typical Tocquevillean-style private civil association, has been fundraising for over a year to collect the necessary $60,000 to build the flagpole and monument, above which would wave a 12-by-18-foot iteration Stars and Stripes. But CalTrans has declared that its policy forbids such efforts. In a letter to OTORA, CalTrans explains that it developed its policy in response to a ruling released by a 3-judge panel of the notorious Ninth Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, a ruling that was issued in response to impromptu flag-hanging in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals? Who ever would have expected those patriots to make a decision like this?

Hang in there, Orcutt.

Unbelievable story of the day: Gitmo hides American flag so terrorist inmates won’t be offended by it

We have become wimps. Completely embarrassing wimps. There’s simply no other way to describe it.

We have become wimps. Completely embarrassing wimps. There’s simply no other way to describe it. BigPeace.com has the details of an unbelievable story out of the Guantanamo terrorist prison:

gitmo-flag
Don't let the sight of an American flag offend the little darlings at Gitmo

In an especially well-timed release this week, Richard Miniter’s MASTERMIND: The Many Faces of the 9/11 Architect, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed reveals Mohammed’s rise to the top of Al Qaeda and his planning of the jihadist attacks on America in 2001.More than that, though, Miniter’s book includes shocking new disclosures about how the US treats its detainees. Miniter tells Big Peace:

I was stunned to learn while researching Mastermind that Guantanamo detainees succeeded in convincing prison officials to no longer raise the American flag anywhere they could see it. Each morning on every U.S. military base around the world, the American flag is raised to a bugle. But in the interests of not offending the detainees, it was stopped at Guantanamo.

Hide it? We think not. We should surround the damn prison yard with flag poles and raise the Stars & Stripes one at a time every morning as a team of buglers play Reveille over and over again.

They’re illiterate friggin’ prisoners mysteriously transported from the 13th century. Who cares what offends them?

Firestorm breaks out: Bakersfield Fire Department removes American flag from uniforms

The Bakersfield fire chief in that conservative farming and oil community thought it would be a good idea to remove the American flag from his department’s uniforms.

Bakersfield, California is about two hours and several light years away from IHateTheMedia.com’s intergalactic headquarters.

For some reason, some unknown and unfathomable reason, the fire chief in that conservative farming and oil community thought it would be a good idea to remove the American flag from his department’s uniforms.

As you might well imagine, this did not sit well with either the firefighters or the residents of Buck Owens’ adopted hometown.

As Buck might have said to the fire chief, “You’ve got a tiger by the tail.”

Let’s enjoy a little Buck in honor of this boneheaded Bakersfield decision.

Feel good story of the day: “Flag boy” gets an escort on his ride to school

The “flag boy” story continued Monday morning when young Cody Alicea rode his bike to school with an escort — hundreds of patriotic bikers, many of them veterans.

Remember last week’s story about the California boy who was told by his school principal that he could no longer fly the American flag on his bicycle?

The school eventually backed down in the face of public outrage.

But the story continued Monday morning when young Cody Alicea rode his bike to school with an escort – hundreds of patriotic bikers, many of them veterans.

Parents pissed over Cinco de Mayo flag flap

Parents in Morgan Hill, California are pissed about the Cinco de Mayo flag flap. Plenty pissed. And they showed up at last night’s school board meeting to express their displeasure with the way things were handled.

Parents in Morgan Hill, California are pissed about the Cinco de Mayo flag flap. Plenty pissed. And they showed up at last night’s school board meeting to express their displeasure with the way things were handled.

KTVU reveals the rancorous details:

About 200 people packed the middle school auditorium where the meeting was held to accommodate the larger than normal number of people who attended to vent their feelings.

“Regardless where we came from when we come to this nation, we adopt its culture and what this nation stands for and the flag,” said Morgan Hill resident Lavonne Atnit. “I am personally getting very tired of disrespect to that flag and what this nation stands for.”

Morgan Hill’s Claudia Rossi offered some advice to the Latino student who walked out of school in protest the day following the incident.

“To those Latino kids that are here: you are not going to change the mind of one person that is being offensive to you,” said Rossi. “Educate yourself. That is the way to honor your flag wherever you come from.”

The boys who wore the patriotic colors — which some Latino students viewed as disrespectful — did not show up. However, some of their parents did.

“The students were not making a political statement. Their goal was to simply their pride in their country,” said parent Joy Jones. “As parents we are proud we have raised young men who stand up for what they believe in.”

We have two words on the whole incident: muy estúpido.

Hey, Roger Ebert, how about two thumbs up yours!

It looks like everyone has an opinion about the Live Oak High School students being sent home for displaying the American Flag. Even America’s most famous failed screenwriter. According to The Los Angeles Times Roger Ebert has weighed in on the matter

We always liked Gene Siskel better anyway.

It looks like everyone has an opinion about the Live Oak High School students being sent home for displaying the American Flag. Even America’s most famous failed screenwriter. According to The Los Angeles Times Roger Ebert has weighed in on the matter and had this to say in a recent Twitter posting:

“Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July.”

We don’t know how long it has been since Mr. Ebert was in school but nowadays they tend to let out for national holidays like the Fourth of July. Especially when they fall in the middle of summer.

Of course, that sort of slavish devotion to reason might be a little much to expect from a little man who so vehemently opposes the “fascism” attributed to fictional character Dirty Harry, but lauds the real life variety embodied by Asst. Principal Miguel Rodriguez.

Welcome to America 2010: Student reprimanded for drawing the American flag

A California art teacher banned her young student’s drawing of the American flag. She actually told the student it was “offensive.”
Then the same teacher turned around and praised another student’s drawing of Barack Obama.

Can a state be clinically insane? If so, California should be institutionalized, because they don’t come any crazier than this state.

A California art teacher banned her young student’s drawing of the American flag. She actually told the student it was “offensive.”
Then the same teacher turned around and praised another student’s drawing of Barack Obama.

Her parents were pissed. We’re pissed. You’re probably pissed. And we hope anyone else reading this story gets pissed.

We’re thinking of moving our entire blog factory to Alabama or Tennessee or one of those other states that likes to spend big bucks to lure companies away from California.

A billion dollars should do the trick. We might even take a few bucks less.

And now we’ll just sit back now and wait for the offers to come rolling in, because we have to get out of this insane asylum.

Outrageous! California students sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo

Four boys at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli were3 sent home for wearing T-shirts with the American flag on them, on Cinco de Mayo. So that’s where we are in 2010. Displaying the American flag in the United States on a foreign holiday is now a bad thing. Political correctness run amok.

Black is white. Up is down. In is out. Patriotism is un-American.

NBC Bay Area has the details of this insane story:

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal’s office.

“They said we could wear it on any other day,” Daniel Galli said, “but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today.”

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.

So that’s where we are in 2010. Displaying the American flag in the United States on a foreign holiday is now a bad thing.

Political correctness run amok.
