Stalin’s version of American Idol: It was like Earth Hour in reverse

How did Soviet citizens vote for their favorite contestants in Eurovision Song Contest during the period of joseph Stalin?

When Stalin ruled the Soviet Union, telephones were in very short supply. And on top of that, cell phones, texting and computers were still just rough concepts in little baby Bill Gates’ mind.

So how did Soviet citizens vote for their favorite contestants in Eurovision Song Contest?

They watched the show in the dark, then turned on their lights when they wanted to vote for a contestant. The Soviet power company measured power spikes and the winner was supposedly the contestant who made power usage jump the most.

Sounds apocryphal to us. We’re not sure Stalin had any interest in demonstrating democracy to the citizens of the USSR.

Oliver Stone hits the leftist trifecta, defends Ahmadinejad, Stalin and Hitler

Not content with being known as a Hollywood eccentric, director Oliver Stone has given up all pretense of normality and moved directly into lunatic territory.

Not content with being known as a Hollywood eccentric, director Oliver Stone has given up all pretense of normality and moved directly into lunatic territory.

NewsMax has the dictatorial details:

Director Oliver Stone belittled the Holocaust during a shocking interview with the Sunday Times today, claiming that America’s focus on the Jewish massacre was a product of the “Jewish domination of the media.”

The director also defended Hitler and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and railed against the “powerful lobby” of Jews in America.

Stone said that his upcoming Showtime documentary series for “Secret History of America,” seeks to put Hitler and Communist dictator Joseph Stalin “in context.”

Yes, of course, Hitler was merely misunderstood. And in Stone’s mind, it’s always Springtime for Hitler.

Chris Matthews condemns Stalinesque purges in the Republican party. Really. He said that.

A “Stalinesque purge” is what MSNBC’s Chris Matthews calls it when his kind of Republican is voted out and a conservative Republican is voted in.

Sniff. Sniff. Sniff.

Is that desperation we smell?
