CBS/Chicago won’t cover GOP senate candidate if he discusses Democrat opponent’s banking scandal

Republican Mark Kirk, leads Alexi Giannoulias in the polls and has repeatedly hammered him on the bank issue. Now the CBS television affiliate in Chicago is threatening not to cover Kirk’s campaign if he has the temerity to actually campaign against his opponent’s record.

Alexi Giannoulias, one of Barack Obama’s Illinois cronies, is running for his former seat in the United States Senate.

Giannoulias made his money from his family’s bank – a bank that (a) loaned money to, shall we say, shady characters, and (b) was just closed down by federal regulators.

As might be expected, his Republican opponent, Mark Kirk, leads Giannoulias in the polls and has repeatedly hammered him on the bank issue.

Now the CBS television affiliate in Chicago is threatening not to cover Kirk’s campaign if he has the temerity to actually campaign against his opponent’s record.

Reporter: Channel 2’s made a decision. We’re really not going to cover the Senate race, if it’s consistently only in your terms, is about Broadway Bank. The bank’s been taken over by the government, Alexi’s been pilloried. Tell me, what is your campaign going forward? What are the issues you are going to tell the voters why they should vote for you?

Unbelievable. Absolutely un-freakin-believable.

Spitting in the face of the American taxpayers: Obama gives $400,000 to Gaddafi’s “charity”

If you made up this story and stuck it in a movie, no one would believe it.. The Obama Administration plans to give $400,000 in funding to a Libyan charity run by the Gadhafi family, and U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) wants the grant withdrawn.

If you made up this story and stuck it in a movie, no one would believe it. It’s incomprehensible. Just plain incomprehensible.

CBS2 Chicago reports:

The Obama Administration plans to give $400,000 in funding to a Libyan charity run by the Gadhafi family, and U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) wants the grant withdrawn.

The money would be divided between two foundations run by the family of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi. A $200,000 share is set to go to the Gadhafi Development Foundation, which is run by Gadhafi’s son, Saif, and another $200,000 are to go to Wa Attassimou, an organization run by Muammar Gadhafi’s daughter, Aisha.

Kirk says the grants should be withdrawn in light of the recent return to Libya of Pan Am Flight 103 bomber Abdel Baset Megrahi. The terminally ill prisoner was released from in Scotland on compassionate grounds, and got a hero’s welcome from Muammar Gadhafi and other Libyans upon his return.

Saif Gadhafi was involved in negotiating for Megrahi’s release, and accompanied him back to Libya.

Give money to Mother Teresa. Give money to the SPCA. Give money to that damn Jerry Lewis Telethon. But who in their right mind would give money to a “charity” run by an insane terrorist dictator who runs a country that sits atop a giant pool of oil?

Barack Obama. That’s who.

Voice of America puts Taliban on the air in Pakistan

This story isn’t from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, but we wouldn’t blame you for thinking it might be: The Voice of America in Pakistan is giving air time to the Taliban.

Rep. Mark Kirk, an Illinois Republican, went nuts when he learned that the American taxpayer-funded service has been interviewing Pakistani Taliban leaders.

“The U.S. taxpayer should not be subsidizing free air-time for al-Qaeda terrorists and Taliban leaders,” Kirk said. “These broadcasts put the lives of American soldiers in danger and undermine the policies of the United States in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

“Pshaw,” said VOA Director Danforth Austin. He said the VOA was simply seeking to increase it’s credibility.

That’s all well and good, but it turns out that the Taliban used the VOA interviews as part of its military strategy. They gave out false information in an attempt to lure the Pakistani army into a trap.

There’s one very valuable lesson to be learned from this story: Never expect brilliance from a guy named Danforth.
