Robert “Bob” Menendez, the Democrat senior U.S. Senator for New Jersey, was indicted on Friday in the Southern District of New York for engaging — along with his wife Nadine Menendez (Arslanian) — in a “corrupt relationship with three New Jersey associates and businessmen” between 2018 and 2022, according to an unsealed court filing.

According to the indictment, Senator Menendez and his wife “agreed to and did accept hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes” in return for Menendez’s “power and influence as a senator to protect and enrich” the three individuals identified as Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes and “to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt.”

“Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value,” the indictment says, in addition to allegations that Menendez “provided sensitive U.S. Government information and took other steps that secretly aided the Government of Egypt.”

Only a tiny fraction of U.S. counties account for nearly all of the country’s homicides, according to research released Tuesday that showed a striking concentration where killings take place.

The worst 31 counties — generally urban jurisdictions — have about a fifth of the country’s population but accounted for 42% of the country’s homicides in 2020, said John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, which conducted the study.

Cook County in Illinois — home to Chicago — led the country with 775 reported homicides in 2020. It was followed by Los Angeles County at 691, Houston home Harris County in Texas at 537, Philadelphia at 495 and New York’s five boroughs at 465.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike routinely violate the STOCK Act: 40 Republicans and 37 Democrats in the current Congress violated the law, per Insider’s tally.

Some members of Congress violated the law more egregiously than others. GOP Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas, for example, violated the STOCK Act multiple times and waited months to disclose up to $17 million in trades. Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi of New York repeatedly failed to file reports on time across nearly 300 personal financial transactions.

The House Committee on Ethics ultimately absolved Suozzi and Fallon from being penalized for violating the STOCK Act — the committee found that there was not “clear evidence”  either congressman committed “knowing or willful” violations of the act. This, despite a referral from the independent Office of Congressional Ethics, which conducted its own investigation and unanimously concluded earlier this year that there was “substantial reason to believe” Fallon and Suozzi violated the STOCK Act.

In video from Yahoo! News, the security officer and another party can be heard screaming “Don’t let them in the building” continually as the vice principals approached the masked and armed teens.

The school admins then let the teens inside the main doors where they remained inside the school’s vestibule.

The high school, the Garret Morgan School of Leadership & Innovation, was in session at the time and teaches roughly 285 students in grades 9 through 12.

According to federal prosecutors, the 47 individuals charged across six indictments and three criminal informations committed conspiracy, wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering when they defrauded millions from the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

Specifically, the 47 individuals allegedly used COVID-19 changes to the Federal Child Nutrition Program to oversee the massive fraud scheme via the Minneapolis-based Feeding Our Future and the for-profit restaurants as well as the food distribution services sponsored by the nonprofit.

Brink’s said in a lawsuit that its two drivers made the roughly 298-mile, late-night trek from San Mateo to the Flying J Travel Center in Lebec in about 2 hours, 4 minutes, even fitting in a stop along Interstate 5. To traverse that distance so quickly, the vehicle would have had to drive at speeds upward of 140 mph.

Brink’s has said that the vehicle stopped at the Buttonwillow rest area about 1:49 a.m. so one of the drivers could use the bathroom, and then continued on to the Flying J, reaching it about 16 minutes later. The Buttonwillow rest stop is about 55 miles from the Flying J. Covering that distance in a little more than a quarter of an hour would require driving at speeds upward of 200 mph.

For example, the report does not mention an alarm on the door of the Brink’s trailer or cameras anywhere on the vehicle.

Arnold Duke, president of the International Gem and Jewelry Show, said he “always thought there was” an alarm on the door, “but certainly never checked it.”

“I was under the impression that everything had satellite tracking, cameras, alarms,” he said.

Six people are dead and dozens injured in a mass shooting at a 4th of July parade in the wealthy Chicago suburb of Highland Park on Monday, authorities said.

Police said the gunman was still on the loose after he opened fire with a rifle from the roof of a building overlooking the parade route shortly after 10 a.m.

The shooter, who police warned is still “armed and dangerous”, is described as a white male with dark hair, aged 18 to 20 years. He is wearing a blue or white t-shirt, police said.

Former Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum has been indicted on multiple charges connected to campaign contribution fraud before and during his 2018 run for governor of Florida.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida unsealed the indictment Wednesday, showing Gillum has 21 counts against him. The indictment alleges that Gillum accepted gifts and campaign contributions from an undercover FBI agent.

Gillum is facing charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and making false statements to FBI agents, the court document says.

Sharon Lettman-Hicks was also listed as a defendant in the indictment.

The Boston Herald reported that Monica Cannon-Grant, the head of Violence in Boston, and her husband, Clark Grant, are accused of using the nonprofit “as a vehicle to personally enrich themselves and their designees,” according to a federal indictment unsealed on March 15. 

The couple is facing 18 fraud related charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud, and making false statements to a mortgage lending business. Grant’s husband is charged in a more limited capacity.
