Stars and CEOs suddenly discover that Obama is cold and inhospitable, miss George Bush

CEOs and Hollywood stars got their comeuppance last weekend at the annual Kennedy Center Honors. Much to their chagrin, they discovered that George Bush was much warmer and more hospitable than Barack Obama.

Words you never thought you'd hear: "So, George, can you give me some advice on winning over that Hollywood crowd?"
Words you never thought you'd hear: "So, George, can you give me some advice on winning over that Hollywood crowd?"

Comeuppance. Yeah, that’s the word we’ve been trying to think of.

CEOs and Hollywood stars got their comeuppance last weekend at the annual Kennedy Center Honors. Much to their chagrin, they discovered that George Bush was much warmer and more hospitable than Barack Obama.

Here’s how Variety, show so-called show biz bible, explains the comeuppance:

The show itself honoring Bruce Springsteen, Robert De Niro and Mel Brooks, among others, was a resounding hit, but the White House seemed to be still traumatized by the incursions of the social-climbing, state dinner-crashing Salahis.

While President Bush in past years shook every celebrity hand and posed for photos with visitors at the White House reception, the Obamas remained aloof, fleeing to their box at the Kennedy Center.

Stunned by recent security breaches, the White House kept guests shivering outside in 30-degree weather, opening the reception 10 minutes late and shuttling guests through 25 minutes of repeated screenings and pat-downs, all of which took place outside.

Several stars grumbled; one suggested to a social secretary that the Obama staff study the Academy Awards for lessons in celebrity management.

The story reaches a sad Hollywood dénouement:

White House staffers maintained a stony distance during this weekend’s events. Rahm Emanuel, the chief of staff, sat with his wife for 20 minutes before Obama’s brief presentation Sunday, and hardly anyone approached him with a greeting, nor did he circulate.

“I never thought I’d miss the Bushes,” said one prominent Hollywood actor, “but this place seemed a lot warmer when they were here.”

It was probably just global warming, but don’t you worry, Hollywood. Barack Obama is over there in Hopenchangen fixing that little problem, too.

Hollywood trade mag thinks Jon Voight is “outrageous” for calling Obama a “false prophet”

Variety, the long-time Hollywood trade publication, obviously believes Barack Obama is God because they’ve accused actor Jon Voight of being “outrageous” for calling him a “false prophet.” Even worse, they compared him to Janeane Garofalo. We don’t know which is worse.

It’s not really surprising that the same Malibu-meets-Babylon crew that embraces Scientology would also embrace another phony religion like Obamology.

Variety, the long-time Hollywood trade publication, obviously believes Barack Obama is God because they’ve accused actor Jon Voight of being “outrageous” for calling him a “false prophet.” Even worse, they compared him to Janeane Garofalo. We don’t know which is worse.

Variety’s WilshireAndWashington.com said, “Jon Voight earned praise from Republican leaders when he gave a speech at a Republican fundraiser this week calling the president a “false prophet,” a comment that matches in outrageousness anything the likes of Janeane Garofalo has said from the left.”

Voight’s got a lot of nerve calling The One a false prophet when everyone in Hollywood knows he is the true prophet, a god walking among mere mortals, a savior come to earth. Voight is sure to be condemned to burn forever in eternal damnation (which in Hollywood means no more leading roles, nothing but bit parts).

But to say “false prophet” is as outrageous as anything Janeane Garofalo has said? Apparently, the boys at Variety haven’t been paying real attention to Janeane for the last few years. For Variety’s edification, we proudly present this video clip of the lovely and talented Ms. Garofalo guesting with the equally lovely and talented Keith Olbermann.

Watching it may convince you that Obama is a true prophet, because you’re sure to say, “Oh, my god.”

Movies aren’t the only thing that suffers from bad box office. Now Hollywood newspapers are in trouble.

The Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety are the movie industry’s top newspapers. But the recession and increased internet competition have Hollywood questioning their survival.

The papers’ publishers say advertising has plummeted, even during the current Oscar run-up, when studios traditionally hype their movies with expensive ad campaigns.

Even worse, numerous bloggers now provide a daily diet of instantaneous internet updates.

“There’s one website that’s really killing us,” said an unnamed executive at one studio, “I hate that damn IHateTheMedia.com.”

(No one in Hollywood really said that, but a guy’s gotta dream.)
