Do Not Buy a New Fisker Ocean. Talk about depreciation! This has to be some kind of a record. They paid almost $70,000.

We took our Ocean to our local CarMax store for an appraisal on March 29, to see how the value has been affected by the company’s woes. (Full disclosure: Edmunds is a division of CarMax.) We were presented with an offer of $21,000. That’s a depreciation of 69.6%.

Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr resigns after EV push goes bust

Hertz Buying 100,000 Teslas, Making EVs 20 Percent of Its Fleet
Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr resigns after EV push goes bust. We can’t imagine why people wouldn’t pay exorbitant prices to rent a vehicle that you spend half your vacation trying to find a charging port.

Hertz, one of the four largest car rental companies in the world, is replacing its CEO after the company reversed its bet on electric vehicle (EV) rentals over increasing costs.

Stephen Scherr will step down as Hertz Global Holdings Inc.’s chief executive officer and member of the company’s Board of Directors effective March 31, the company announced Friday. Scherr led Hertz for just over two years after spending nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs.

Scherr’s resignation comes as the car rental company struggles with the higher repair costs and low demand for EV rentals.

Electric vehicles release more toxic emissions, are worse for the environment than gas-powered cars: study

Electric vehicles release more toxic emissions, are worse for the environment than gas-powered cars: study. Let’s add mining cobalt and lithium, increased pollution due to how long these cars burn when they catch fire, and the fact they are easily totaled in an accident increasing the amount of junk cars and requiring yet more to be made as accident replacements.

Electric vehicles release more toxic particles into the atmosphere and are worse than the environment than their gas-powered counterparts, according to a resurfaced study.

The study, published by emissions data firm Emission Analytics, was released in 2022 but has attracted a wave of attention this week after being cited in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Sunday.

It found that brakes and tires on EVs release 1,850 times more particle pollution compared to modern tailpipes, which have “efficient” exhaust filters, bringing gas-powered vehicles’ emissions to new lows.

Today, most vehicle-related pollution comes from tire wear.

As heavy cars drive on light-duty tires — most often made with synthetic rubber made from crude oil and other fillers and additives — they deteriorate and release harmful chemicals into the air, according to Emission Analytics.

North Carolina city spent millions on electric buses that don’t run

North Carolina city spent millions on electric buses that don’t run. A government so stupid, it hurts. Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom is going to blow a wad on electric buses. He’s like government even more stupid.

The city of Asheville, North Carolina, shelled out millions of dollars in 2018 to add five electric buses to its fleet. Now, three of the five sit idle, and city employees are telling the cautionary tale.

In the meantime, Asheville is staring down losses from a major investment. Morriss told WLOS that each bus cost at least $616,000, and the city had to spend another $200,000 for the installation of each charger, another $118,000 every year to lease batteries for the buses, and nearly $45,500 annually in electric costs to charge them.

She also noted that maintenance costs for the electric buses have topped $250,000.

STEPHEN MOORE: The Left’s Green Dreams Are Going Up In Smoke. It sounds like it’s time for a new Cheech & Chong movie about greentard dopers trying to invent an electric van that uses marijuana smoke to charge the batteries, catches fire, and gets an entire small town stoned.

Study: Fueling EVs Really Costs $17 Per Gallon

Study: Fueling EVs Really Costs $17 Per Gallon. Yes, there’s propaganda about EVs, wind turbines, solar panels, and then there’s reality. What’s the cost of little children in Africa mining Cobalt for pennies per day? What’s the cost of having to dump wind turbine blades and solar panels?

In their paper “Overcharged Expectations: Unmasking the True Costs of Electric Vehicles,” the study’s authors, Brent Bennett and Jason Isaac, ostensibly argue that while the direct cost of “fueling up” to an EV owner may appear low, the real costs and considerations add up to be significantly more.

“Our conservative estimate is that the average EV accrues $48,698 in subsidies and $4,569 in extra charging and electricity costs over a 10-year period, for a total cost of $53,267, or $16.12 per equivalent gallon of gasoline. Without increased and sustained government favors, EVs will remain more expensive than ICEVs for many years to come.”

Devastating risks of transitioning to ‘green’ energy: Mining for electric-powering minerals has left 23 million people exposed to toxic waste, 500,000km of rivers polluted and 16 million acres of farmland ruined

Devastating risks of transitioning to ‘green’ energy: Mining for electric-powering minerals has left 23 million people exposed to toxic waste, 500,000km of rivers polluted, and 16 million acres of farmland ruined. Here’s what the Religion of Green Energy has brought everyone. More misery is about all. All this and they complain about oil.

Tens of millions of people — more than live in the entire state of Florida — are now exposed to toxic water runoff from metal mining, a new study has found.

The report lays bare the devastating impacts that can follow a reckless transition to ‘green’ energy, compounding the ecological damage wrought by over 150 years of drilling and mining for fossil fuels.

The researchers found that 23 million people worldwide, well as 5.72 million in livestock, over 16 million acres of irrigated farmland and over 297,800 miles worth of rivers have been contaminated by mining’s toxic byproducts seeping into the water.

This metal mining includes many so-called ‘rare earth elements’ essential to the manufacture of high-tech electronics, solar cells, wind turbines and all the batteries needed to store sustainable ‘green’ energy (and power electric cars and iPhones).

On an EV road trip to promote green tech, the US Energy Secretary and her entourage couldn’t find enough electric vehicle chargers

On an EV road trip to promote green tech, the US Energy Secretary and her entourage couldn’t find enough electric vehicle chargers. Meanwhile, there’s a spot in Central California at Harris Ranch in Coalinga (photo above), with chargers all over the place. We stopped there last Saturday and saw 2 cars hooked up. Oh, the big lot has a diesel generator hooked up to it. Go figure.

The caravan of electric vehicles heading from Charlotte to Memphis over the course of four days hit a snag in Grovestown, Georgia. The group was planning a quick charge when they realized there wouldn’t be enough electric vehicle chargers to go around since one was broken and the others were in use, NPR reported.

So an employee from the Department of Energy tried to save one of the spots using a gas-powered car.

It was a sweltering day and the move didn’t go over well with a family that was also waiting for a charging spot. The situation escalated to the point that the family, driving with a baby in their car, called the police, who didn’t have the authority to act because blocking an EV charging spot with a gas-power car isn’t illegal in Georgia, NPR reported.

EV Fail: Car Dealers Turning Away From Electric Vehicles After Learning Harsh Economics Lesson

EV Fail: Car Dealers Turning Away From Electric Vehicles After Learning Harsh Economics Lesson. No one’s buying this green panacea. It’s not free or cheap like people were led to believe, and it’s a pain in the ass.

Car dealerships are telling auto manufacturing companies that they have more than enough electric vehicles in stock and don’t want more on their lots until the current inventory sells.

“We have turned away EV inventory,” Kunes said. “We need to ensure that we have a good turn on it.”

Fiorani explained that EV’s offer a significantly different “ownership experience,” because of the typically lower range a vehicle gets from a single charge and unavailability of charging locations relative to gas stations.

“It’s hard for the average customer to make that leap while spending an extra $10,000,” he said.

Insurance Companies Realize What Is Happening with EVs – Things Could Soon Get Expensive

Surging EV demand causing states to pause incentives

Insurance Companies Realize What Is Happening with EVs – Things Could Soon Get Expensive. Oh my, yet another problem with electric vehicles. We can’t blame them for the extraordinary costs to repair them, or how easily they’re totaled out. Toss in a shortage of charging stations, a battery range that doesn’t live up to what is advertised, and we have to ask why is anyone going for this nonsense.

Market Watch added that coverage for EVs are “anywhere from 10 percent to 135 percent” higher than the national average depending on which EV you want to insure.

While there are fewer components at risk of breaking down in an EV, the parts that do require repair or replacement are much more expensive. This is especially true if an EV’s battery pack is damaged. ConsumerAffairs found that the average cost to replace an EV battery ranges from about $4,500 to nearly $18,000.

“EV owners also face a shortage of qualified repair shops and technicians,” Market Watch reported. “The specialized training required to repair electric vehicles means fewer available options and higher charges for customers when repair needs arise. All of these factors drive up insurance costs for EV drivers.”

Rivian R1T Owner’s $42,000 Repair Bill — The Shocking Cost Of A Minor Fender Bender On A $73,000 Electric Truck

Rivian R1T - Wikipedia

Rivian R1T Owner’s $42,000 Repair Bill — The Shocking Cost Of A Minor Fender Bender On A $73,000 Electric Truck. Not only is the repair bill incredible, but the fact they didn’t total the truck out is also even more impressive. We now wonder how much everyone’s auto insurance goes up to cover the cost of repairing electric vehicles that have been in accidents.

Rivian R1T owner Chris Apfelstadt experienced an unexpected financial shock after a seemingly minor rear-end collision in February. Although the damage appeared limited to the rear bumper, the repair costs escalated to $42,000 when he took his vehicle to a certified Rivian Automotive Inc. repair shop. This repair bill is particularly surprising considering that the starting price of a brand-new Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:RIVN) R1T is around $73,000.

Scratched EV battery? Your insurer may have to junk the whole car

Tesla Model 3 batteries show impressive fire resistance despite damage from high-speed crash ...

Scratched EV battery? Your insurer may have to junk the whole car. Yet more, go woke-go broke. Now EV’s cost more to run than gasoline cars, and now the insurance is going to be higher, not to mention the environmental costs. Another joke foisted upon us by the greentards.

For many electric vehicles, there is no way to repair or assess even slightly damaged battery packs after accidents, forcing insurance companies to write off cars with few miles – leading to higher premiums and undercutting gains from going electric.

And now those battery packs are piling up in scrapyards in some countries, a previously unreported and expensive gap in what was supposed to be a “circular economy.”

“We’re buying electric cars for sustainability reasons,” said Matthew Avery, research director at automotive risk intelligence company Thatcham Research. “But an EV isn’t very sustainable if you’ve got to throw the battery away after a minor collision.”

Battery packs can cost tens of thousands of dollars and represent up to 50% of an EV’s price tag, often making it uneconomical to replace them.

Despite Buying a ‘Lemon,’ Juneau, Alaska, Is Not Done with Electric Buses

Despite Buying a ‘Lemon,’ Juneau, Alaska, Is Not Done with Electric Buses. This is one lemon you can’t make lemonade out of. Perhaps lemon-flavored popsicles?

The Alaskan capital announced in 2021 that it would add a 40-foot, all-electric passenger bus to its fleet, but the zero-emission model has recurring mechanical problems that force Capital Transit to park the bus in the garage for weeks on end.

In frigid weather, though, the 440-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery’s 210-mile range dropped to 100 miles, and the battery took longer to charge. Capital Transit superintendent Rich Ross told APM that the faulty harness and other issues aren’t putting Juneau’s transit authority off electric buses.

Wyoming Electric Vehicle Road Trip Nightmare: Man Spends 15 Hours to Travel 178 Miles Across State

Wyoming Electric Vehicle Road Trip Nightmare: Man Spends 15 Hours to Travel 178 Miles Across State. The hated used car salesman has been eclipsed by the new EV car salesman. The last time we drove to Newport Beach it took about 7 hours, we can only imagine how long it would take in an electric car. Like several days?

“It was very difficult, O’Hashi told Cowboy State Daily. “For example, (it took) 15 hours to get from Cheyenne to Casper.”

O’Hashi found several major problems that EV dealers don’t talk about.

Firstly, he realized that if he is out on the open road and runs out of juice, he is forced to pay the expense of a tow truck to get him to the nearest charging station.

Secondly, since there are three types of charging stations all of which charge at different speeds, he was stuck waiting for widely varying numbers of hours. In fact, sometimes he would be forced to sit overnight, only to end up with enough battery power to drive a mere 40 miles.
