Duck down under

It’s good to watch foreign news teams in action every so often, just to show us what’s possible and what we’re missing.

Morning television news fare in the United States is so bland and politically correct, it’s a wonder any of us manages to wake up and get to work. Ann Curry talking about the debt limit? Al Roker warning us about global warming during a summer heat wave? Puh-leeze.

That’s why it’s good to watch foreign news teams in action every so often, just to show us what’s possible and what we’re missing.

In this clip, Australian morning host Karl Stefanovic starts out by making fun of his own pre-written over-wrought introduction to a story about a possible shark in a lake. Then, when the on-scene reporter takes a fishing pole and casts his line into the lake in a theatrical attempt at catching the non-existent shark, he somehow hooks a duck instead.

Imagine the faux concern we would have gotten from Ann Curry about the poor duck. Imagine the ensuing PETA statement and network investigation and assurances that the duck was treated and released by a licensed vet.

What did the Aussies do? They laughed their asses off. Karl Stefanovic even made a joke about Peking Duck being available to interested viewers.

Is this the worst opening to a newscast ever?

Nothing goes right during this 11 a.m. newscast at Channel 10 in San Diego. Absolutely nothing.

(Sorry for the stupid music in this version, but YouTube killed the original version we put up.)

Coincidentally, the field reporter seen down at the San Ysidro border crossing is Adrienne Moore, who used to work here in IHateTheMedia.com’s town. You can’t really tell in this short clip, but she’s hot. Really hot. Unbelievably freakin’ hot.

One day back when Adrienne worked at our local TV station, the Editor’s cell phone rang. The caller, a trainer down at the local gym, said, “Hey, if you get down to the gym in the next five minutes, you can see Adrienne Moore doing bent over rows.”

It was a sad day when she left our little town to go to a big market like San Diego, but we’re happy to celebrate the glory that is Adrienne with this short snippet of what has been called the worst newscast opening ever.

(That being said, another station in our market is so bad that people organize pools and bet on how long it will take for the first mistake to occur in each newscast. Ahhh, life in a small market.)

Hey, Adrienne, if you read this, drop us an email here at IHTM. We’d love to have you as the celebrity judge for an upcoming IHTM contest.

No stalking, we promise.

Did that newscaster just say what we thought he said? Maybe he’s doing a story on Tourette Syndrome.

WNYW 5 News. Anchor Ernie Anastos blurts out an obscenity while bantering with weatherman Nick Gregory. Even funnier than the obscenity is the “what the hell did you just say” look on his female co-anchor’s face.

Top 10 gaffes by Barack Obama and Joe Biden. All on video.

No matter what the American press keeps telling us, the foreign press is growing less enchanted with Camelot every day. Especially the British press. And even more especially the Telegraph.

This administration is setting a torrid pace for screw-ups and misstatements and just plain dumb comments. It’s only been 60 days. Of course, we expected that when we got Joe Biden, but no one expected the greatest orator in history to foul up so often.

The Telegraph has compiled a list of the Top 10 gaffes by Obama and Biden.

Far as we can tell, the tough part must have been limiting the list to ten.

Above is the Telegraph’s choice as Number 10. To see the rest of the list, click here. Prepare to laugh.

Comedian Bernie Mac accused of stealing $50 billion

Telling the difference between Bernie Mac and Bernie Madoff seems pretty simple to us.

One lost his life, the other lost $50 billion. One never stole more than a punch line, but the other stole a fortune from widows and orphans. One was black, the other is white.

Nevertheless, an MSBNC anchor had a bit of trouble telling one from the other while reporting that prosecutors will be seeking $170 Billion from Madoff. The older, whiter, more crooked of the two is expected to plead guilty to 11 criminal counts and could spend up to 150 years in the slammer. If he serves his full term, he will be 220 years old upon release.

We miss you, Bernie. And we mean Mac, not Madoff.
