Networks celebrate Obama’s “whirlwind of activity.” Others take to the storm cellars.

"Change is coming! Hope is coming! Run for your life!"

NBC and ABC on Tuesday marked President Obama’s first 50 days in office this week. Sadly, they celebrated it.

“The President’s first seven weeks have been a whirlwind with often dramatic movement in all directions, on all fronts,” NBC’s Brian Williams intoned.

“Seven weeks ago,”ABC’s Jake Tapper commented, “just minutes after taking the oath of office, President Obama formally nominated his cabinet. He’s been a whirling dervish of activity ever since.”

For some reason, neither network mentioned Obama’s many failed nominations, his dithering over the the “stimulus” bill, Wall Street’s negative reaction every time he opens his mouth, his foreign policy gaffes, his the race toward socialism and destruction of capitalism, his aura of negativity, nor the astounding increase in debt he’s proposed.

Instead, the networks lovingly referred to the President as a “whirlwind” and a “whirling dervish of activity.”

In middle America, they don’t call it a whirling dervish. They call a hurricane. And they race down to their storm cellars until it’s safe to come out again.

Reliving the Dream of Muzzammil Hassan

The story of Muzzammil Hassan beheading his wife Aasiya has been purposefully suppressed or under-reported by the mainstream media since the the horrific murder was committed last Thursday in Buffalo, New York.

We know why, of course. It’s because Hassan is a Muslim-American whose mission was to improve the image of Muslims in the United States, and even with the obvious irony of the situation, the press just won’t let a good story get in the way of their agenda. So let’s play along, and instead of telling you more of how Aasiya’s head was knifed off in a manner not exactly in the custom of Americans (yeah, shoot us for saying it), let’s instead just shut the hell up about this unfortunate moment of second-degree rage, and relive the dream of Hassan’s network by relaxing, sitting back and watching this 2004 interview by NBC’s Brian Williams.

Ann Curry leans forward, kisses Bill Clinton’s butt

The Today Show’s Ann Curry annoys us. Really annoys us.

Specifically, it’s her annoying interview technique that bugs us. The exaggerated, hunched over posturing toward the subject of her interview. The deep, serious voice she affects. Oh, yeah, and her softball questions.

“Your wife is front and center as Secretary of State at a time when this world, this country is in a world of hurt,” she said to Bill Clinton on Monday’s Today Show. “What’s your faith in her?”

C’mon, Ann, what did she think he was going to say? “Well, she’s already pissed off the North Koreans. And the Palestinians say she’s no Madeleine Albright. But I’m just happy because the job keeps her away from Chappaqua.”

Ann Curry. Another reason we hate the media.

Lauer’s pre-game propaganda

Turns out we hate the media more than ever on Super Bowl Sunday.

That’s because Matt Lauer achieved what medical experts have always
considered to be anatomically impossible by interviewing President Obama’s
while his lips were firmly planted on the president’s butt.

Sadly, NBC turned a 12-minute portion of its programming over to Matt Lauer and President Obama for a little Super Bowl pre-game propaganda.

Had the interview had been strictly about football, it might have seemed
more reasonable. But it strayed rather quickly into an opportunity for Obama
to discuss the war in Iraq and his economic stimulus package.

Does anyone recall a similar cloying interview with President Bush prior to
earlier Super Bowl games?

We don’t.

Brilliant anti-abortion commercial banned by NBC

Here at I Hate The Media, we know a thing or two about advertising. Like, for example, we know a great commercial when we see it.

NBC has rejected a Super Bowl commercial created by a Catholic advocacy group. The ad, which can be seen here (to the left) is simple, riveting, and features a surprise twist. Consider it proof that a great commercial doesn’t have to cost millions of dollars.

No matter what position you take on the abortion issue, this commercial is a simple, powerful piece of communication.

Watch it.

Obama has giant brain. Brian Williams no so much.

NBC News anchor Brian Williams is very pleased that Barack Obama is our new chief executive. But not so pleased, mind you, that it influences his work.

Just as we were beginning to worry about Williams’ impartiality, he reassured us that “none” of his personal enthusiasm about Obama’s presidency “is about a party” since “none of us have a party in my line of work. We all try to call balls and strikes down the center.”

Then Williams impartially noted that “we have a dazzling family in the White House” and stated that Obama “has an enormous brain.”

If brain size is now a reason to vote for a presidential candidate, let us be the first to say, “Brainiac 2012.”
