Radio execs willing to do almost anything for a beer

budewiser_friendsIf there’s anyone who could use a nice, cold brewski right now, it’s the poor guys struggling to survive in the radio business. But Budweiser’s not buying a round for the house.

According to Radio Daily News, Budweiser beer, owned by brewing giant Anheuser-Busch, has informed radio stations that they won’t be paid for 120 days after its commercials run.

To make matters worse, Bud also told stations that they must maintain the current level of “value-added” promotions (things like personal appearances, on-air mentions, etc).

A few years ago, radio stations would have laughed at Bud’s draconian conditions. But with advertising revenue rapidly drying up, broadcasters are expected to meekly acquiesce.

Anheuser-Busch is currently under investigation to determine if they “donated” to Al Sharpton’s various “charities.” Our guess is that Sharpton didn’t have to wait for 120 days for his money.

Al Sharpton goes ape over cartoon chimp

dead_monkey_cartoonNo issue can be considered truly trivial until Reverend Al Sharpton tosses in his two cents.

Now the irascible old racemonger complains that a New York Post cartoon links President Obama to a violent chimpanzee. He deems it “troubling at best,” “offensive,” and “divisive.”

The cartoon shows a bullet-ridden chimpanzee and two cops. One of the cops is holding a smoking gun. The other one says, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”

The cartoon is an obvious reference to the chimpanzee that was shot and killed by Stamford, Connecticut police on Monday after it mauled a woman.

The latest news reports say the chimp often ate steak and lobster for dinner, then shared a nightly cocktail with his owner before cuddling in bed with her.

Sharpton’s way off base on this one. Looks like an obvious Bill Clinton reference to us.

Religious leader Al Sharpton being followed by the IRS

budweiserWe may just run this same story every week and just change the name of the Democrat tax dodger. This week’s criminal is Al Sharpton. Excuse us, the Reverend Al Sharpton.

The Internal Revenue Service has issued subpoenas to Sharpton’s largest corporate donors. They say Sharpton, his various businesses and non-profit groups owe millions in back taxes.

Brewer Anheuser-Busch has received a subpoena as part of the IRS’ investigation of Sharpton’s National Action Network. The corporation admits that it “donated” between $100,000 and $499,000 to the group in 2007. Sources say other large corporate donors will also be subpoenaed.

As you would expect, the oft-indignant Sharpton called the subpoenas a “fishing expedition.”

Hey, Reverend Al, which commandment is it that says, “Thou shalt not pay thine taxes?” Is it the eleventh or fourteenth?

Al Sharpton is a moron. Oh, wait, that’s not news.

bush_chimpReverend Al Sharpton if offended, horrified, and absolutely disgusted that a New York Post political cartoon compared – in his mind – Barack Obama to a monkey. And that comparison is RACIST.

Seemed to us that we’d seen numerous cartoons and PhotoShopped images comparing former President Bush to monkeys. So we did a few Google Image searches.

“Bush” and “simian” generated 38,000 images. “Bush” and “baboon” got 46,300. “Bush” and “orangutan” got 48,800. “Bush” and “chimpanzee” got 132,000. “Bush” and “ape” got 170,000. “Bush” and “chimp” got 182,000. “Bush” and “gorilla” got 356,000. “Bush” and “monkey” got 1,220,000.

Hard as this may be to believe, we can’t recall the good Reverend ever coming to President Bush’s defense and declaring these images racist.

We were going to end this by calling Sharpton an ignorant baboon. But we didn’t want to insult the baboon.

The final score: Limbaugh 188, Olbermaniac 0

rushlimbaugh_cigarThe voices in Keith Olbermaniac’s head must be angrier than usual this morning.

“In his inaugural address,” Olbermann crowed two days ago, “the President essentially tried to create a wedge between those who are reasonable and those who are not. Of course, he was talking about the Muslim world. Is it possible in this different context that he’s trying to do the same as he seeks bipartisanship with the Republicans. Sort of, you know, separate Mullah Limbaugh from the herd?”

The smirk on Olbermann’s face revealed just how clever he thought he was for making this observation.

Then two things happened.

First, Rep Phil Gingrey (R-GA) appeared as a guest on Limbaugh’s program yesterday, and humbly apologized for telling Rush to “back off” congressional Republican leaders.

Then, instead of separating themselves from Limbaugh, House Republicans unanimously voted against Obama’s economic “stimulus” package. And in what must have been even more frustrating for Olbermaniac, 11 Democrats crossed the aisle to vote against it.

It appears that Mullah Limbaugh has issued the symbolic equivalent of a fatwah against infidel Olbermann.

NY Times calls liberal senator “too conservative”

new_yorker_magAs if attempting to prove the truth of that old New Yorker cartoon that shows nothing of any consequence beyond the friendly confines of Manhattan, the New York Times has condemned liberal Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for being too conservative.

Apparently, Gillibrand hasn’t toed the party line quite as strictly as they would like. Can you imagine the gnashing of teeth at the DNC when they found out she has a 100% lifetime rating from the National Rifle Association, voted against TARP, supports the death penalty, and is pro-life? Yet despite those “conservative” positions, Gillibrand considers herself a liberal.

We’re sure the Times has nothing to worry about, because Gillibrand’s liberal re-education has already begun. She announced that she is going to visit Harlem with Rev. Al Sharpton “to become more enlightened about gun control.”

Our opinion: the terms “Al Sharpton” and “enlightenment” are mutually exclusive.
