The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly submitted a rule change to the NFL asking that interceptions thrown by a legendary quarterback not count. They may have gotten the idea from the Democratic party’s move to eliminate the filibuster.
Democrat Senator Tom Udall “…introduced a resolution on Monday that would give the Senate the ability to vote on its own rules and regulations every two years….such as the rule that 60 votes are needed to end debate on legislation. In short: the filibuster could be drastically changed from its current incarnation.”
But what have the Democratic leaders said about the filibuster in the past?
In his 2008 book “The Good Fight”, Harry Reid compared lowering the filibuster threshold to “opening Pandora’s Box.”
“It was just a matter of time before a Senate leader who couldn’t get his way on something moved to eliminate the filibuster for regular business,” Reid wrote. “And that, simply put, would be the end of the United States Senate”
But Reid is far from the only prominent Democrat now in danger of having to eat his own words.
“The American people want less partisanship in this town,” then Senator Obama said in a 2005 speech, “but everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster — if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate — then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse,” Obama said in the April 2005 speech in Washington.”
Unfortunately for the left, changing the filibuster rules will have zero effect on what’s really preventing the Democrats from passing any meaningful legislation. Because they are their own biggest problem.
As the old saying goes, “You can’t legislate away stupidity.”
