OAKLAND TO REQUIRE DEVELOPERS TO SPONSOR PUBLIC ART

OAKLAND TO REQUIRE DEVELOPERS TO SPONSOR PUBLIC ART. You have to love liberals. First they’re spending other people’s money and second you’d think that with Oakland Dubbed Second Most Dangerous City In The United States, that they’d at least spend other people’s money on more police. We hope this is at least bullet proof art that you can hide behind during drive-by-shootings.

And in art news: Environmental artist carves polar bear out of ice, lets it melt to sound warning

Let’s say you’re an artist. A hack artist, perhaps. Your work really isn’t very good and under normal circumstances you’d either starve to death or have to go get a real job. What to do? What to do?

Let’s say you’re an artist. A hack artist, perhaps. Your work really isn’t very good and under normal circumstances you’d either starve to death or have to go get a real job. What to do? What to do?

This is the post-television age. The iPod age. The iPad age. All an artist need do is figure out a good scam and hornswaggle the media into promoting your “art.”

Interesting that Coreth created his latest ice sculpture in Australia, because it looks far more like a wombat than a polar bear

News24 offers a case in point:

A ten tonne polar bear camping out at Sydney’s majestic Circular Quay isn’t likely to survive for more than a day or two.
The bear, made of solid ice, will slowly melt into a great puddle of water under Sydney’s 20°C winter sun, and sculptor Mark Coreth is just fine with that.

In fact, he hopes this slow and painful “death” will remind people of the plight of the real thing.

Here comes the part we love. The part where he tells us he was inspired by the noble native:

“When I was [in the Arctic], the Inuit guides were saying look, you can sculpt a polar bear, that’s fine, but how on earth are you going to sculpt the real issue we got, and that’s the warming arctic?” Coreth said in front of Sydney’s Customs House.

Turns out the Brit has been traveling the world with these frozen polar bear sideshows since 2009. He’s got the spiel down cold, you might say:
“Sitting in the sun, it’s going to melt that bear, that’s the natural warming of the planet, as is happening,” he said.

“But when people touch it, when they touch that bear, they melt it, you can feel it melt under your hand, that’s a human impact. Big hard touch, big hard melt.”

But don’t get the impression Coreth is some kind of starving artist. He may love the hell out of the polar bears, but as AFP notes, he’s figured out how to turn a profit by melting hearts with his melting art.

Bypassers can pay Aus$2 to touch the creature, feeling “the ice melting under your hand,” said Coreth, who hopes to raise awareness about global warming and its effect on polar bears, an endangered species.

Touch the creature. Sounds like an online conversation with Anthony Weiner.

Higher education can’t get much lower: Penn State censors anti-terrorism art exhibit

Free thinking can be, like, hard. And it can be uncomfortable. It can even be dangerous, especially when you dare treat Islam with the same critical examination that you freely — one could almost add, gleefully — hand out to the world’s other great religions, especially Christianity and Judaism.

From the abolition movement to civil rights sit-ins, debate, artistic expression and free speech have been written in the genetic code of institutions of higher education.

But free thinking can be, like, hard. And it can be uncomfortable. It can even be dangerous, especially when you dare treat Islam with the same critical examination that you freely — one could almost add, gleefully — hand out to the world’s other great religions, especially Christianity and Judaism.

Thankfully, political indoctrination, in the form of political correctness, is easing those uncomfortable debates and putting universities far, far away from suicide bombers who may take issue with debate and free expression. (Hopefully, they’ll bomb someone else.)

Case in point: Here’s how Penn State deals with an art show on Islamic terrorism.

While the university has been home to a recent sadomasochistis and pedofile supporters at a Sex Faire, it just couldn’t bring itself to allow one artist’s view of terrorism.

After all, that would be, like, intolerant.

“Now, now, Abdullah, make sure you use perspective when you draw the infidel’s beheading.”

Former Guantanamo inmates are being “rehabilitated” through a combination of art therapy and intensive recreation at a Saudi facility.

Excellent, Abdullah. Now color in the red arcs and your Obama logo will be complete.

Perhaps this conversation is taking place right now as former Guantanamo inmates are being “rehabilitated” through a combination of art therapy and intensive recreation at a Saudi facility.

According to the New York Post, the program is a cross between a daycare and terrorist training camp.

“In between tasty picnic-style meals of rice and lamb and snacks of Snickers along with dips in the pool, participants practice Arabic calligraphy, produce dizzying Jackson Pollack rip-offs and imagine the aftermath of car bombings in crayon.”

The concept hasn’t been that successful. Well, maybe we just need to re-define what “successful” means.

Graduates of the program have certainly succeeded at reestablishing their terrorist careers. One graduate, Said Ali al Shihri — a former Guantanamo Bay detainee who now heads up al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. The same group that tried to blow up an airliner on Christmas.

Maybe al Shihri will be the next commencement speaker.

Announcing the winner of the ObamaCare art contest. Seriously.

POP’s website has just made this exciting announcement: “After dozens of submissions and thousands of votes, we’re pleased to announce the winners of the Public Option Please art contest.”

A public advocacy group called “Public Option Please” held an art contest. They wanted a poster that best promotes ObamaCare’s public option.

POP’s website has just made this exciting announcement: “After dozens of submissions and thousands of votes, we’re pleased to announce the winners of the Public Option Please art contest.”

Wait no longer propaganda art fans, because here it is. The big winner. It doesn’t take a lot of brainpower to figure out the symbolism. It clearly communicates the left’s mindset that all life begins and ends in Washington, DC.

That, of course, is just the opposite of what we believe.

If we had entered the contest, our painting would have been slightly different. It would have shown a giant vacuum in Washington, DC with its tentacles extending to every community in America, sucking dollar bills to and from the nation’s capital.

But that’s just us.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Should you pay $899 for this limited edition Barack Obama bronze bust or $19.95 for this Chia Pet Barack Obama bust?

We realize this is a very difficult decision. So as a public service, IHateTheMedia.com offers this information to help you make your choice:

The one-of-a-kind Obama bust sits atop a hand-carved platform made by artisans of Kogelo, Kenya, the home village of President Obama’s alcoholic, abusive father. You can choose between two poses – Candidate Obama, so full of hope and change, or President Obama, beaming proudly in his full socialist glory. Please be aware that all proceeds go to a Kenyan charity. Total cost: $899.00.

The Chia Pet Obama bust is made of clay (much like the actual Obama’s feet). It comes with a convenient drip tray, handmade planter, enough seeds for three plantings, plus planting and care instructions. And if Barack Obama isn’t your cup of tea, you can also choose from other presidents who are actually known to love their country (George Washington and Abe Lincoln) or the Statue of Liberty. Total cost $19.95 plus shipping.

This is an easy choice for us. Give us the chia pet Obama. Because The Greatest President in History deserves to be seen in his full, green glory.

We can’t think of anything we’d rather see under our tree this Christmas this year.

Parents in Oregon aren’t laughing at comedian Steve Martin

steve martin picasso at the lapin agileSteve Martin once played “The Jerk.” Now some Oregon parents think he’s being one in real life.

Here’s the situation: A high school production of Martin’s play, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” was canceled when parents objected to its adult content.

Martin said in a letter to a newspaper that he wants to keep the play, conducted in other high schools without controversy, “from acquiring a reputation it does not deserve.”

Martin said he could understand how some parents might object to their 16- or 17-year-olds delivering some lines, and he said whether the play should be presented at the high school itself “remains something to be determined by the community.”

Then, in what can only be described as stunning hypocrisy, the comedian said he would ante up the money to have the same play produced with the same actors off-campus.

When Martin said it was “something to be determined by the community,” no one knew the community he was referring to was Hollywood.

Blind man buys nude photo of Madonna for $37,500

We don’t know much about art, but we know ugly when we see it. And that would pretty much sum up our opinion of Madonna.

Nevertheless, someone with an apparently severe vision impairment has paid Christie’s Auction House $37,500 for a full-frontal, nude photo of the pop queen as a 20-year-old.

Madonna was still using her full name — Madonna Louise Ciccone — when the photo was taken. She landed the gig after answering a classified ad seeking a nude model. She may have earned as little as $25 for the photo session.

We just wish we could be there when this poor blind man gets home, proudly unveils his purchase, and his family tells him what it actually is. Continue reading “Blind man buys nude photo of Madonna for $37,500”
