The Associated Press gets it teeth into the story:
A police report says 25-year-old Ryan James Stephens was charged with teasing a police dog in the Cincinnati suburb of Mason.
Officer Bradley Walker wrote that he heard the K9 dog barking uncontrollably inside his patrol car while he was investigating a car crash at a pub early Sunday morning. Walker says Stephens was making barking noises and hissing at the animal.
Walker reported that Stephens said “the dog started it” when asked why he was harassing the animal. The officer said Stephens appeared highly intoxicated.
The Associated Press missed a sure bet in this story when it neglected to say that the officer had collared the suspect.

First there was local boy Brett Favre making good (before making not so good). Then there was its ordeal with Hurricane Katrina. And now there is the case of the camel that would not comply.
Local rag The Sea Coast Echo has all of the harried details:
Major Bobby Underwood of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday his department first began getting complaints about the camel on Dec. 4.
According to Underwood, Nedra Lewis of Waveland was driving through Kiln when she noticed the camel outside the fence at Berdine’s residence.
Lewis told police that she pulled into the driveway hoping to notify the owners that the camel was on the lam, but the camel attacked her red Nissan, Underwood said.
Startled and trapped in her car, Lewis called police, Underwood said.
Underwood went on to report that after the camel refused to comply with his orders he tasered him. In reference to the situation Underwood also had the following to say:
“In my 42 years in law enforcement, I’ve never had to deal with a camel problem,” he said. “I’ve been told the camel is really gentle. I don’t know what got him fired up. We are going to continue to monitor the situation.”
No word yet if Underwood will face any disciplinary action for smoking a camel while on duty.

Conservative talk show host shoots wife and dog
Conservative Florida radio personality Shannon Burke has been charged with shooting his wife and dog. Are we the only ones who think this sounds like a bad country and western song?
Burke, who hosts a mid-day show on Florida’s RealRadio 104.1, describes his show as “mixture of outrageous daily, biker attitude and personality, and right-wing style rants.”
Burke’s version of the story is that he got mad at his dog, grabbed a handgun and threatened to shoot it. When the gun “accidentally” discharged, the bullet went through the dog’s leg and then grazed the side of his wife head.
He’s been charged with two counts — aggravated battery with a weapon and animal cruelty. Bond was set at $10,000 and he was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet monitor.
Catherine Burke and the dog were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Consider this proof that talk show hosts should limit themselves to shooting off their mouths.

Animals had better odds with Michael Vick than with PETA
According to the latest statistics, the “so-called” animal rights organization killed 99.7% of the animals they receive.
The nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the animal rights group kills an average of 5.8 pets every day at its Norfolk, VA headquarters.
According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.
To repeat, only seven out of 2,124 pets were adopted. And the rest were euthanized. That means they euthanized 99.7% of all the pets that were brought to them.
We don’t much like Obama, the IHateTheMedia.com office cat. But after reading this, we’d never turn him over to the animals at PETA.
