Testy Bob Schieffer to David Axelrod: “Is this going to be a one term presidency?”

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Schieffer started by playing a three-year old clip of Obama saying that he’d be a one-term president if economic conditions are still bad three years later. In other words, now. He followed up by asking Axelrod, “Is this going to be a one-term presidency?”

Mediaite spells out that Axelrod was visibly uneasy during the back-and-forth:

Axelrod: “We are in a different place than we were the day he did that interview.”

Schieffer: “We are, things are worse than they were.”

And after Axelrod elaborated with a meandering answer, Schieffer interrupted his “extended response” and respectfully suggested he “stop talking about what the election is going to be about.” Instead Schieffer focused on what could be done now, and wondered whether he was wrong to think that nothing would get accomplished before the election. Axelrod politely informed him that yes, he was wrong, and that big things can still be accomplished. However, Schieffer’s visible skepticism and agitation with some of Axelrod’s long-winded responses suggest that Schieffer, like many Americans, may be eager for results.

Eager? Bob Schieffer eager? That’s an understatement. He’s as invested in Obama as any journalist and he sees his investment going down the drain faster than Bank of America stock.

Ultimate arbiter of cool announces that Obama still is

In David Axelrod’s mind Barack Obama is the coolest of the cool. The hippest of the hip. The grooviest, baby.

David Axelrod is a rumbled, old political strategist with a wrinkled suit, a bad haircut, a silly moustache and cloud of cigarette smoke hanging over his head. He’s so far from cool that it’s a long distance call.

David Axelrod is (a) saying Barack Obama is A-OK or (b) his arthritis is acting up again

Nevertheless, Axelrod wants you to know that he knows what cool is. And in David Axelrod’s mind Barack Obama is the coolest of the cool. The hippest of the hip. The grooviest, baby.

Real Clear Politics reports Axelrod’s delusion:

”I find it as cool to be an Obama supporter. Having sat with him for two years is the White House and watched him — watching him work through some very difficult things with a lot of intelligence and grace, equilibrium. I, I have great admiration for him,” Obama’s chief campaign strategist told CNN.

“The people who were participating in the campaign in 2008 weren’t involved n some sort of cult of personality. It wasn’t just about Barack Obama, it was the country and they cared deeply about this country,” Axelrod said in his answer a question about how to make Obama “cool” again.

Well, there you have it. If someone as cool as David Axelrod says Obama is still cool, then cool he is.

In a Bay City Rollers kind of way.

Putting the “O” in ego: Obama wanted autographed copy of New Yorker that shows him walking on water

David Axelrod called the editor of New Yorker magazine to request a copy of the February 1 cover of the magazine, the one that showed Obama walking on water. And not just any copy of the February 1 cover, but one that had been autographed by artist Barry Blitt.

Perhaps they can plug the hole in the Gulf with Obama’s ego. It’s certainly appears to be big enough to do the job.

We say that because it’s come out that White House advisor David Axelrod called the editor of New Yorker magazine to request a copy of the February 1 cover of the magazine, the one that showed Obama walking on water. And not just any copy of the February 1 cover, but one that had been autographed by artist Barry Blitt.

New Yorker editor David Remnick told the story to Howard Kurtz on CNN’s “Reliable Sources”:

“Aha,” David Axelrod said to the President, “I think I’ve figured out what your problem is.”

The President’s socialist agenda isn’t the problem. His horrible appointments aren’t the problem. And his massive deficits aren’t the problem. No. The problem is that just too many people watch that damn Fox News.

The morning crew at Fox News seethes with rage 24 hours a day. Even when they’re not on the air.

The President’s socialist agenda isn’t the problem. His horrible appointments aren’t the problem. And his massive deficits aren’t the problem. No. The problem is that just too many people watch that damn Fox News.

The Telegraph UK reports the denial on the Potomac:

“Obama’s big problem,” a senior Democrat told me, “is that four times as many people watch Fox News as watch CNN.” The Fox network is a remarkable cultural phenomenon which almost shocks those of us from a country where a technical rule of impartiality is applied in the broadcast media. With little rest, it pours out rage 24 hours a day: its message is of the construction of the socialist state, the hijacking of America by “progressives” who now dominate institutions, the indoctrination of children, the undermining of religion and the expropriation of public money for these nefarious projects. The public loves it, and it is manifestly stirring up political activism against Mr Obama, and also against those in the Republican Party who are not deemed conservatives. However, it is arguable whether the now-reorganising Right is half as effective in its assault on the President as some of Mr Obama’s own party are.

Got that? Fox pours out rage 24 hours a day. Because rage is really appealing and people are really drawn to watch it 24 hours a day.

Morons. That’s it. No other comment necessary.

How many jobs have been saved or created? Pick a number, any number.

The whole “jobs created or saved” storyline created by the White House was silly to begin with. But it becomes even funnier when Obama sends his advisors out to talk it up on the Sunday talk shows and they quote wildly different numbers.

The whole “jobs created or saved” storyline created by the White House was silly to begin with. But it becomes even funnier when Obama sends his advisors out to talk it up on the Sunday talk shows and they quote wildly different numbers.

Politico.com reports:

The discrepancy was pointed out by a Republican official in an email to reporters noting that “Three presidential advisers on three different programs [gave] three different descriptions of the trillion-dollar stimulus bill.”

Valerie Jarrett had the most conservative count, saying “the Recovery Act saved thousands and thousands of jobs,” while David Axelrod gave the bill the most credit, saying it has “created more than – or saved more than 2 million jobs.” Press Secretary Robert Gibbs came in between them, saying the plan had “saved or created 1.5 million jobs.”

We know three jobs that shouldn’t be saved and never should have been created.

This just in! President Obama has some really lousy help!

Valarie Jarrett and David Axelrod have been busy doing Olympic-sized damage control for the Greatest President In History. Damage caused, unfortunately, when the President listened to their advice.

President Obama with David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett. With friends like this who needs enemies?

Valarie Jarrett and David Axelrod have been busy doing Olympic-sized damage control for the Greatest President In History. Damage caused, unfortunately, when the President listened to their advice.

“The intelligence that we had from the U.S. Olympic Committee and Chicago bid team was that it was very close and therefore well worth our efforts,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior White House adviser. “The message was that . . . a personal appeal from the president would make a huge difference.”

Does that mean if Obama had of skipped the trip that instead of coming in last we would have come in really, really last?

“Axelrod said, the president told his staff to send an advance team to Copenhagen just in case. “It was always in his mind that he wanted to go and would go,” Axelrod said. “But he needed to leave himself a little bit of room in case healthcare was on the floor.”

We’re sure Axelrod meant to say “or something may go wrong in Iran or Israel or Iraq or Afghanistan or North Korea.”

Mr. President, may we respectfully suggest that you run an ad on CraigsList.com. We’re pretty confident you can find some better advisors there than the ones you have now.

obama self-loveAccording to a new book called “The Battle for America 2008,” David Axelrod, Barack Obama’s official Yoda, confronted his young Skywalker with this statement:

“At the risk of triggering the very reaction that concerns me, I don’t know if you are Muhammad Ali or Floyd Patterson when it comes to taking a punch. You care far too much what is written and said about you. You don’t relish combat when it becomes personal and nasty….”

Far as we can tell, the book has only sold three copies — one each to Kim Il-Jong, Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
