Testy Bob Schieffer to David Axelrod: “Is this going to be a one term presidency?”

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Schieffer started by playing a three-year old clip of Obama saying that he’d be a one-term president if economic conditions are still bad three years later. In other words, now. He followed up by asking Axelrod, “Is this going to be a one-term presidency?”

Mediaite spells out that Axelrod was visibly uneasy during the back-and-forth:

Axelrod: “We are in a different place than we were the day he did that interview.”

Schieffer: “We are, things are worse than they were.”

And after Axelrod elaborated with a meandering answer, Schieffer interrupted his “extended response” and respectfully suggested he “stop talking about what the election is going to be about.” Instead Schieffer focused on what could be done now, and wondered whether he was wrong to think that nothing would get accomplished before the election. Axelrod politely informed him that yes, he was wrong, and that big things can still be accomplished. However, Schieffer’s visible skepticism and agitation with some of Axelrod’s long-winded responses suggest that Schieffer, like many Americans, may be eager for results.

Eager? Bob Schieffer eager? That’s an understatement. He’s as invested in Obama as any journalist and he sees his investment going down the drain faster than Bank of America stock.

CBS’ Bob Schieffer says “I didn’t ask Eric Holder about the New Black Panthers case because I’m incompetent”

Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer showed up on CNN’s Reliable Scoures on Sunday to answer charges that he showed his true left wing leanings when he neglected to ask Eric Holder about the New Black Panters case in an interview the previous weekend.

Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer showed up on CNN’s Reliable Scoures on Sunday to answer charges that he showed his true left wing leanings when he neglected to ask Eric Holder about the New Black Panters case in an interview the previous weekend.

To paraphrase Schieffer’s defense, “I’m not a left winger, I’m just incompetent.”

Here’s the verbatim Q & A:

Kurtz: Let’s start with the obvious question. Why did you not ask Eric Holder in that interview about this former Justice official’s allegation that a case against the New Black Panther Party was dropped because of racial politics?

Schieffer: Well, it’s certainly a question that is a legitimate question to ask. And basically what happened was this all really became a story when the whistleblower came out and testified that he’d had to leave the Justice Department and so on. And, frankly, had I known about that, I would have asked the question. I was on vacation that week. This happened — apparently, it got very little publicity. And, you know, I just didn’t know about it.

Apparently Sunday show hosts don’t both reading up on what happened while the were on vacation before conducting an interview after returning from that vacation.

What? The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor? I didn’t know. I was on vacation.

How long until you start following the latest Obama fashion trend?

The One grew one. What about you?
The One grew one. What about you?

When President Obama made his speech in Cairo last week, people noticed something new, something now, something oh-so-Obama.

We’re referring to the wispy, but stylish ‘stache gracing his upper lip. Admittedly, it wasn’t the manliest mustache and it would have been more at home on a 15-year old boy.

Nevertheless, a new wispy mustache craze is sweeping Washington, DC. Everyone wants one because everyone wants to be just like the Greatest President In History. The literati, the glitterati, the cognoscenti. What about you?

It won’t be long before you’re no one without one.

As you can see, the trend is spreading faster than Swine Flu and it’s a lot less deadly.

Next time Joe Biden puts his foot in his mouth, it will just call attention to the brand new Obama on his upper lip.

John Edwards needed a new image. Who could resist voting for a guy sporting a suave ‘stache like this?

Liberal CBS News anchor Katie Couric wins award named for liberal CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite.

Katie Couric may never win the ratings, but who cares? She just took home a coveted Cronkite Award (which we assume is called a “Wally” by TV insiders).

Couric’s Wally was presented for “her revealing, multi-part interview of Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.”

The Wallies are awarded twice each year by the USC Annenberg School for Communication. They are named in honor of Walter Cronkite, once known as “the most trusted man in America.”

Couric won her award in the category “Special Achievement for National Impact on the 2008 Campaign.” Judges said the interview was a “defining moment in the 2008 presidential campaign.” But they didn’t stop here. No siree, Bob. They also called it “extraordinary, persistent and detailed.”

Other winners included ABC’s George Stephanopolous, who eked out a narrow win in the category “Best Achievement in Hair” and CBS’ Bob Schieffer, who took home a Wally in the category “Most Likely to Keel Over Dead In the Middle of a Story.”

All in all, it was an exciting evening for one and all.

Did Bob Schieffer say Republicans are racist?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYK3it70uCEThe word “racist” may not have passed Bob Schieffer’s lips, but that certainly seemed to be the implication of his commentary on Sunday’s Face the Nation.

While talking about Michael Steele, former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and newly-elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, he said:

“So it was that the party of Lincoln which had freed the slaves, but in the process had become the party of mainly white people, came full circle and turned to an African-American Moses to lead it out of the political wilderness.”

So from Schieffer’s point of view, the party that held the presidency until two weeks ago now needs to be lead out of the wilderness.

We’ve seen Charlton Heston in “The Ten Commandments” about a thousand times, so we consider ourselves to be highly-trained biblical scholars. And we have one question for Schieffer:

If Steele is Moses, doesn’t that make Obama the pharaoh?

Torture Ban = Civil Rights Act

Back in 1989, when Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega took refuge inside the embassy of the Vatican in Panama City, we blasted rock ‘n roll outside the embassy 24 hours a day until Noriega couldn’t take it anymore.

We said we were serenading him. Noriega said we were torturing him. Good thing CBS newsman Bob Schieffer wasn’t on the scene.

“Hubert Humphrey once said the 1964 Civil Rights Act was America’s single most effective foreign policy initiative,” said Schieffer said. “It…told the world what we stood for and that our system was about fairness and equal treatment and that it worked. I thought about that when Barack Obama announced that torture would never be part of our national policy.”

Kenny G and that damn saxaphone. We say that’s what should be against the Geneva Convention.
