Call the Guinness Book: Rahm Emanuel mayoral team sets record for fastest ethics charge

Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor on Tuesday, appointed his transition team on Thursday and an ethics violation forced his co-chair to resign on Friday.

Our heartiest congratulations go out to Rahm Emanuel and his Chicago mayoral transition team for a new Chicago corruption land speed record.

He was elected mayor on Tuesday, appointed his transition team on Thursday and an ethics violation forced his co-chair to resign on Friday.

Awww, too bad Judy Erwin had to resign. She sure looks like she'd be a lot of fun.

The Chicago Tribune tells the sad tale:

A veteran politician Rahm Emanuel named to his mayoral transition team resigned her high-level state job last summer and paid a fine for conducting political business on state time, according to a newly filed ethics report.

Judy Erwin, a co-chair of Emanuel’s mayoral campaign, said late Friday night that she would resign her new post on his transition team after the Tribune contacted her and the campaign. She said she hadn’t informed Emanuel of the ethics violation.

Erwin, the former executive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education, admitted using her office e-mail and phone while working on a campaign committee for presidential candidate Barack Obama, using staff resources to plan her trip to the 2008 Democratic National Convention and engaging in campaign fundraising activity while on the job, the state’s Executive Ethics Commission ruled in a decision filed Feb. 16…

In an interview with the Tribune, Erwin said she got careless while she was very busy at work, cooperated with investigators and hoped her 30 years of history in state government would outweigh the ruling.

“I’m not corrupt, I’m just careless.” Isn’t that the same one-size-fits-all Democrat excuse Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel used when they didn’t pay their taxes?

Rahm Emanuel greets the people of Chicago. Whether they want to be greeted or not.

Poor Rahm. The little guy (5’ 4” in his booster shoes) went to a train station in Chicago on Monday morning, stood tall and proud and greeted the voters of Chicago as they went off to do something he’s never done – an honest day’s work.

The voters showed about as much enthusiasm as you’d expect them to show for the little thug behind the Thug in Chief.

Trading scandal erupts on Wall Street Michigan Avenue

Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s Chief of Staff, traded favors with disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich like two kids trade baseball cards. “I’ll give you two A-Rods and a Derek Jeter for a $2,000,000 school grant.”

Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s Chief of Staff, traded favors with disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich like two kids trade baseball cards. “I’ll give you two A-Rods and a Derek Jeter for a $2,000,000 school grant.”

NBC Chicago has the decidedly dirty details:

President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, then a congressman in Illinois, apparently attempted to trade favors with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich while he was in office, according to newly disclosed e-mails obtained by The Associated Press.

Emanuel agreed to sign a letter to the Chicago Tribune supporting Blagojevich in the face of a scathing editorial by the newspaper that ridiculed the governor for self-promotion. Within hours, Emanuel’s own staff asked for a favor of its own: The release of a delayed $2 million grant to a school in his district.

The 2006 discussion occured with Blagojevich’s top aide, Deputy Gov. Bradley Tusk, and doesn’t appear to cross legal lines; Emanuel couldn’t speed up the distribution of the funds. But it offers a peek at ties between two high-profile Illinois politicians — one now the president’s right-hand man, the other facing years in prison if convicted of political corruption.

Anybody wanna bet that Emanuel’s name comes up more than once in Blogojevich’s corruption trial?

Rahm Emanuel contributes to global warming, emits a little methane durng TV interview

What better way to celebrate the upcoming weekend than with a clip of Rahm Emanuel farting during an interview on national television.

Yeah, we know we’re a little late to the party with this one. But what better way to celebrate the upcoming weekend than with a clip of Rahm Emanuel farting during an interview on national television.

Does he or doesn’t he? Check the :22 mark of the video. it’s not just the sound of his methane emission, it’s the look on his face.

Slowly Rahm approached the nude man and poked him where he least expected it.

New York Congressman Eric Massa describes an encounter of the unpleasant kind with President Obama’s chief enforcer.

New York Congressman Eric Massa describes an encounter of the unpleasant kind with President Obama’s chief enforcer.

Massa: Rahm Emanuel is son of the devil’s spawn… He is an individual who would sell his mother to get a vote. He would strap his children to the front end of a steam locomotive…
I am showering, naked as a jaybird, and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me.

It sounded l like the beginning of a beautiful relationship, but, sadly, it marked only the beginning of the end.

This just in! President Obama has some really lousy help!

Valarie Jarrett and David Axelrod have been busy doing Olympic-sized damage control for the Greatest President In History. Damage caused, unfortunately, when the President listened to their advice.

Valarie Jarrett and David Axelrod have been busy doing Olympic-sized damage control for the Greatest President In History. Damage caused, unfortunately, when the President listened to their advice.

“The intelligence that we had from the U.S. Olympic Committee and Chicago bid team was that it was very close and therefore well worth our efforts,” said Valerie Jarrett, a senior White House adviser. “The message was that . . . a personal appeal from the president would make a huge difference.”

Does that mean if Obama had of skipped the trip that instead of coming in last we would have come in really, really last?

“Axelrod said, the president told his staff to send an advance team to Copenhagen just in case. “It was always in his mind that he wanted to go and would go,” Axelrod said. “But he needed to leave himself a little bit of room in case healthcare was on the floor.”

We’re sure Axelrod meant to say “or something may go wrong in Iran or Israel or Iraq or Afghanistan or North Korea.”

Mr. President, may we respectfully suggest that you run an ad on CraigsList.com. We’re pretty confident you can find some better advisors there than the ones you have now.

If government officials are prosecuted for approving torture, let’s include Congress

If waterboarding won't break Pelosi, threaten to withhold her Botox.
If waterboarding won't break Pelosi, threaten to withhold her Botox.
President Obama says he’s open to prosecuting Bush officials for their anti-terror legal advice. This comes only two days after Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said no prosecutions were being considered because this is not the time for “anger and retribution”.

So much for “looking forward”.

Well, if government officials are to be prosecuted for approving “torture,” shouldn’t we include Congress? After all, Congress was fully briefed and approved of the “enhanced” interrogation tactics used by the CIA. But then, that would mean Congress would have to investigate and prosecute itself. You know, kind of like Barney Frank fixing the financial mess he helped create.

The Wall Street Journal notes in its “Presidential Poison” editorial that Bush officials won’t (or shouldn’t) be the only ones on the hot seat if this goes forward: “Congress will face questions about what the Members knew and when, especially Nancy Pelosi when she was on the House Intelligence Committee in 2002.

The Speaker now says she remembers hearing about waterboarding, though not that it would actually be used. Porter Goss, her GOP counterpart at the time, says he knew exactly what he was hearing and that, if anything, Ms. Pelosi worried the CIA wasn’t doing enough to stop another attack. By all means, put her under oath.

Here’s an idea that might help jog Pelosi’s memory as to what she actually heard and approved:

Waterboard ‘er.

How Rahm Emanuel ripped you off for $320,000

rahm_emanuelHelp Wanted: Must be able to attend 6 meetings per year and overlook blatant fraud. $20,000 annual salary plus stock options. Total compensation in the $320,000 range over 14 months.

We never saw this help wanted ad, but apparently President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, did. He landed the plum gig, sat on the board of currupt Freddie Mac for 14 months and may have earned more than $320,000 for his meager efforts. Call 1-800-BIG-SCAM and ask for “Freddie.”

Here’s how the Chicago Tribune describes his odd tenure at Freddie Mac:

Before its portfolio of bad loans helped trigger the current housing crisis, mortgage giant Freddie Mac was the focus of a major accounting scandal that led to a management shake-up, huge fines and scalding condemnation of passive directors by a top federal regulator.

One of those allegedly asleep-at-the-switch board members was Chicago’s Rahm Emanuel—now chief of staff to President Barack Obama—who made at least $320,000 for a 14-month stint at Freddie Mac that required little effort.

As gatekeeper to Obama, Emanuel now plays a critical role in addressing the nation’s mortgage woes and fulfilling the administration’s pledge to impose responsibility on the financial world.

Emanuel’s Freddie Mac involvement has been a prominent point on his political résumé, and his healthy payday from the firm has been no secret either. What is less known, however, is how little he apparently did for his money and how he benefited from the kind of cozy ties between Washington and Wall Street that have fueled the nation’s current economic mess.

The board met no more than six times a year. Unlike most fellow directors, Emanuel was not assigned to any of the board’s working committees, according to company proxy statements. Immediately upon joining the board, Emanuel and other new directors qualified for $380,000 in stock and options plus a $20,000 annual fee, records indicate.

We only need two words to describe the Democrats’ connection to the financial crisis: hanky and panky.

Bogus poll says Rush less popular than Jeremiah Wright

According to a recent poll (view PDF of poll here), Rush Limbaugh is one of America’s the most unpopular political figures.

Calm down, relax, take a deep breath. It’s all nonsense.

The poll, conducted by the research firm Greenberg-Quinlan-Rosner, says Rush’s public-approval rating is just 21 percent among likely voters. That’s seven points lower than Reverend Jeremiah Wright and eight points lower than domestic terrorist and Obama pal Bill Ayers.

Here’s why it’s bogus. Greenberg-Quinlan-Rosner is a Democratic research firm run by Stan Greenberg. You remember Stan Greenberg. He’s the guy who joins in a daily conference call with buddies Rahm Emanuel, George Stephanopoulos, Paul Begala, and James Carville.

We thinking of conducting our own poll. How many of you think we should do it?

That was a joke. Conducting a poll. How many think we should do it? Get it?

Rahm Emanuel makes daily, secret calls to media pals

Rahm uses his secure phone to call his media buddies
Rahm Emanuel cleverly uses his secure phone to make secret calls to his media pals

As the sun comes up each morning, Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s chief of staff, calls his pals in the media – CNN’s James Carville and Paul Begala, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, and pollster Stan Greenberg.

That was no problem last month, but Emanuel is now President Obama’s Chief of Staff, and the calls have now taken on an air of conspiracy. Where’s the shock and outrage and the suggestion that Emanuel is coordinating media coverage?

From our perspective, two things surprise us about this story.

First, that no one has objected to this “cozy” relationship between the president’s chief of staff and members of the media.

And second, that Emanuel has four friends.
