Former Dem Rep Released from Prison 5 Years Early – and Officials Won’t Say Why

Former Dem Rep Released from Prison 5 Years Early – and Officials Won’t Say Why. If no one’s talking then something crooked is probably going on.

Former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah Sr. of Pennsylvania was released from a federal prison near Scranton on June 8, more than five years early — and no one is talking about why it happened, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons and Fattah’s attorney, Sam Silver, were tight-lipped when asked why the Democrat from Philadelphia was sent home well before his sentence was completed, the report said.

Nearly 50 Georgia correctional officers arrested for drug trafficking. Looks like the guards are as bad or worse than the inmates.

“Allegations range, of course, from smuggling in contraband to our inmates here, but also using their official capacity as officers to protect what they believe to be drug transactions and drug shipments traveling through Georgia,”

The definition of insanity: California paid one prison psychiatrist $838,706 in 2010

California may be bankrupt, but the inmates who run the asylum saw fit to pay one prison psychiatrist more than $800,000 last year.

California may be bankrupt, but the inmates who run the asylum saw fit to pay one prison psychiatrist more than $800,000 last year.

The Editor and the Administrator have a neighbor who’s a psychiatrist in the California state prison system. He’s a great guy, but we’re going to be pissed if we find out this story is about him.

charles-manson
If this prison psychiatrist is really worth $838,706 why is Charles Manson still crazy?

Bloomberg has the crazy details:

The chief psychiatrist for California’s overcrowded prison system was paid $838,706 in 2010, more than any other state employee that year, payroll figures released today show.

Note how Bloomberg casually throws in the word “overcrowded” as if it’s relevant to the story and somehow justifies the exorbitant salary.

The doctor, whose name wasn’t released, had a salary range of $261,408 to $308,640, according to data released today by California Controller John Chiang. The total compensation was raised by bonuses or payout of unused vacation time, according to the controller’s office.

Bonuses? For $800K this guy should have cured Charles Manson, Richard Ramirez and Scott Peterson and then driven over to Nevada to cure O.J. Simpson.

Nah, that still wouldn’t have been worth $800K.

Awwwww: WikiLeaks weasel unhappy with the way he’s being treated in jail

Bradley Manning, the turncoat U.S. Army private accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables to Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, is unhappy with his jailers. Poor baby doesn’t like his pillow and wants his MTV, so his attorney has officially complained that Manning is being mistreated.

CNN.com has the details:

free-bradley
That's what we'd tell the other prisoners. "Help yourself to some free Bradley."

His lawyer, David Coombs, formally objected to Manning’s treatment, filing an Article 138 complaint Wednesday, according to a posting on the lawyer’s blog. Manning has been in solitary confinement and for part of this week was again placed on suicide watch by the Quantico brig commander, according to his lawyers.

“He was stripped of all clothing with the exception of his underwear. His prescription eyeglasses were taken away from him,” Coombs wrote in the blog entry. “He was forced to sit in essential blindness with the exception of the times that he was reading or given limited television privileges. During those times, his glasses were returned to him.”

… Manning is confined to his cell 23 hours a day with no pillow, sheets or personal items, according to Coombs.

His only exercise, according to his lawyer, is when he is taken to an empty room and allowed to walk. When he sleeps he must strip to his underwear and surrender his clothing to the guards.

Hard as this may be for you to believe, the military dismisses Coombs’ complaints and says they’re much ado about nothing:

Quantico public affairs officer Lt. Brian Villiard said under military rules he could not confirm whether the complaint had been received. He said all the conditions of Manning’s confinement are in line with his maximum custody status and to prevent Manning from harming himself.

“He is not being treated any differently than anyone else in maximum custody,” Villiard said. “We’re not treating him any differently than anyone who could pose a risk to life, property or national security.”

In December, a Pentagon spokesman said that even under the restrictive conditions, Manning is allowed to converse with other prisoners, receive visitors and exercise for an hour a day. In addition, Manning has pillows and sheets made from a material that cannot be torn into strips, according to Villiard.

We realize that the purpose of waterboarding is to coerce secrets out of a prisoner, but in the case of Manning we’d say the waterboarding should be applied retroactively for all the secrets he’s already spilled.

Be glad we’re not your jailers, Bradley.

Life imitates Seinfeld: California jail agrees to recognize prisoner’s Seinfeldian religious beliefs

What the hell. If people believe nonsense like Kwanzaa and Scientology and that crap Reverend Wright spews, why not Festivus?

What the hell. If people believe nonsense like Kwanzaa and Scientology and that crap Reverend Wright spews, why not Festivus?

The San Jose Mercury News has the religious revelations:

An Orange County inmate who disliked salami got special meals after declaring his religious belief in the Festivus holiday celebrated on the television show “Seinfeld.”

The Orange County Register reports Monday that 38-year-old convicted drug dealer Malcolm Alarmo King asked for kosher meals at the Theo Lacy jail to maintain his healthy physique.

But sheriff’s officials reserve kosher meals for inmates with a religious need.
Judge Derek G. Johnson demanded a religious reason for King to receive the meals and defense attorney Fred Thiagarajah cited his client’s devotion to Festivus — a holiday celebrated on “Seinfeld” with an aluminum pole and the airing of grievances.

Yeah, Festivus. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Welcome to beautiful Pasadena, California. Home of the Rose Parade, the Rose Bowl, and 20,000 unsupervised parolees.

Apparently the cost of housing 20,000 California felons is a lot higher than just giving them bus tickets home and letting them run wild. That’s why the people of Pasadena are being called upon to “welcome released convicts back home”. And not just released convicts, but convicts with “non-revocable parole”.

To heck with those pesky, energy-sapping escape plans

Apparently the cost of housing 20,000 California felons is a lot higher than just giving them bus tickets home and letting them run wild.

That’s why the people of Pasadena are being called upon to “welcome released convicts back home.” And not just released convicts, but convicts with “non-revocable parole.”

In legal speak, these fine, upstanding citizens “cannot be returned to prison for parole violations.” We’re sure they thought this through and everything will be fine.

From the Pasadena Star News:

As the state begins releasing tens of thousands of inmates from state prison without traditional parole supervision, police and community leaders in Pasadena are urging residents to welcome released convicts back home.

California Department of Corrections District Administrator Maria Franco said. Under the new status, the parolees cannot be returned to prison for parole violations and must be charged with a new crime to be re-arrested.

“The process will eliminate those individuals from supervision,” California Department of Corrections District Administrator Michelle Woods said.

Pasadena residents are encouraged “to welcome and accept new residents being released from prison and to help provide them with opportunities to work, deal with substance abuse problems and otherwise lead productive, positive lives in the city.”

Perfect timing. From what we hear, there are quite a few census worker positions open and these guys have all the necessary qualifications.

Ding dong, felon calling!

You have to be kidding: Ohio death row inmate on suicide watch after overdose

An Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.

We nominate Jack Kevorkian to be the state of Ohio’s new death row doctor

You just can’t make this stuff up. No one would believe it. Luckily, Fox News was there to record the insane details:

Officials say an Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.

Prisons spokeswoman Julie Walburn says 43-year-old Lawrence Reynolds Jr., who admitted taking an overdose of medication prescribed to him, arrived at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown shortly after noon on Tuesday.

Walburn says Reynolds is isolated from other inmates and under constant observation.

Reynolds was treated at a Youngstown hospital after he was found unconscious in his death row cell Sunday night.

The type of drug he used and why it was prescribed aren’t being disclosed. How he accumulated the pills is under investigation.

Reynolds’ execution for the 1994 murder of his neighbor near Akron has been rescheduled to next week.

In summation: a guy who is hours away from being executed tries to kill himself. The state spends thousands of tax dollars to save his worthless life so they can turn around and spend millions of additional tax dollars to execute him.

Where the hell is Dr. Kevorkian when we need him?

Save a bunk in Bernie Madoff’s cell for whoever planned the General Motors scam

Save a bunk in Bernie Madoff’s cell for whoever planned the General Motors scam

Swap Bernie Madoff's prison stripes for pinstripes and put him in charge of General Motors
Swap Bernie Madoff's prison stripes for pinstripes and put him in charge of General Motors

The day after Bernie Madoff was carted off to prison for 150 years, some horrifying numbers have come out of General Government Motors.

The Washington Post reports:

If a new General Motors emerges from bankruptcy as planned, U.S. financial aid for the company will expand to nearly $50 billion, but neither the government nor the company is forecasting how much of the public money will be repaid.

The Post story continues:

The stake will be worth enough to fully cover the government’s direct investment only if GM’s stock rises above $68 billion. Even at its recent 2000 peak, GM’s stock was worth only $56 billion.

So let’s see if we’re following this:

The government will pour $50 billion into General Motors. They’re forcing them to make cars no one wants to buy. They’re slashing the advertising budget, which will make it less likely that anyone will know what they have to offer. And they’re eliminating dealers, which will make it tougher for the people who might want their cars to find them. And somehow, someone in Washington, DC thinks this is a good plan.

Bernie, meet Barack. Barack, meet Bernie.

Obama to expand immigration checks in local jails, deport more criminal illegal aliens

President Obama is cracking down on illegal aliens. Sort of.
President Obama is cracking down on illegal aliens. Sort of.

It’s almost as if some alien creature is clouding our minds and forcing us to type this story against our will. After 122 days, we finally agree with something President Obama is doing.

The administration is expanding a Bush administration policy designed to check the immigration status of prisoners booked into local jails. Not some prisoners, not many prisioners, but virtually all prisoners.

As a result, we could see a huge increase in deportations of criminal illegal aliens.

“Inmates in federal and state prisons already are screened,” the Washington Post said. “But authorities generally lack the time and staff to do the same at local jails, which house up to twice as many illegal immigrants at any time and where inmates come and go more quickly.”

“It comes as the Obama administration and Democratic leaders in Congress vow to crack down on illegal immigrants who commit crimes, rather than those who otherwise abide by the law.”

Aha! Suddenly, the alien creature has stopped clouding our minds and we’re able to see the devious nature of this program.

Don’t get us wrong. We’re glad the President is cracking down on criminal illegal aliens, but now we see his plan for what it is: Sleight of hand designed to distract us while they ignore the vast majority of illegal aliens. You know, the ones who became criminals simply by entering the country illegally.

We hereby issue a retraction of the first paragraph of this story.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s warm greeting to Al Sharpton

Maricopa County prisoners model the latest fashions from famed Italian designer Joe Arpaio.
Maricopa County prisoners model the latest fashions from famed Italian designer Joe Arpaio.

You gotta love Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. If he’d been around in the old west, he probably would have just pulled out his six shooter and solved problems with a little lead. These days, he has to use more civilized means.

Race monger Al Sharpton announced that he was going to lead a protest against Arpaio in an attempt to force his resignation. We’re not sure why Sharpton’s upset, but we don’t really care.

Here’s one paragraph from Arpaio’s hilarious letter to Sharpton:

Letter from Sheriff Joe to Al Sharton..
Letter from Sheriff Joe to Al Sharton. Click to read in larger image.
“Your public proclamation leads me to the conclusion: not only do you not understand Arizona; you also do not understand democracy. As the elected Sheriff who, so far has been elected to five consecutive four-year terms, I answer to the four million residents of Maricopa County. I do not answer to the whims of the media, or locally and nationally elected officials who want open borders and who have their own agendas. Nor do I answer to a publicity hound outside interloper who has demonstrated no interest in looking for the truth before making loud uninformed noises.”

And Sheriff Joe was just getting started. Read the entire kick ass letter for yourself by clicking the thumbnail on the left.

We pray that Sharpton breaks some law while he’s leading a protest in Phoenix. He’d look a lot better in one of Sheriff Joe’s pink jumpsuits than he does in those $2,000 suits he usually wears.
