The thrill that was once limited to Chris Matthews’ leg is spreading like one of those deadly flesh-eating diseases and now encompasses his whole body.
The thrill that was once limited to Chris Matthews’ leg is spreading like one of those deadly flesh-eating diseases and now encompasses his whole body.
Matthews: You know, I get the same thrill up my leg, all over me, every time I hear those words. I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen, that’s me. He’s talking about my country. And nobody does it better than President Obama … It seems to me that what thrilled me and I’ve admitted it so many times, was when he talked about America. He wasn’t saying, “I’m gonna do this because I’m a big shot and I’m a brain.” He said, “You know, I was lucky and I was fortunate to live in this country and we can do this without a lot of help from government, on our own….”
A little unsolicited advice for Chris: Call Rush Limbaugh and get the name of his ear doctor. Because your hearing is clearly failing if you heard Barack Obama say, “We can do this without a lot of help from the government.”
Al Gore has been honored appropriately by the Los Angeles School District. They built a new school on top of a toxic dump and named it after the man who has come to symbolize environmental voodoo.
A statue of Al Gore standing in front of the new Carson-Gore Academy. Oh, wait, that's actually Al Gore.
Al Gore has been honored appropriately by the Los Angeles School District. They built a new school on top of a toxic dump and named it after the man who has come to symbolize environmental voodoo.
There are some classic comments in the L.A. Times report on the new school, the Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences, which is named after Rachel Carson and Gore, the world’s two leading purveyors of environmental nonsense:
“Renaming this terribly contaminated school after famous environmental advocates is an affront to the great work that these individuals have done to protect the public’s health from harm,” an environmental coalition wrote in a letter to the Los Angeles Unified School District. Making sure the school is safe “would be an even better way to honor their contribution to society.”
Construction crews were working at the campus up to the Labor Day weekend, replacing toxic soil with clean fill. All told, workers removed dirt from two 3,800-square-foot plots to a depth of 45 feet, space enough to hold a four-story building. The soil had contained more than a dozen underground storage tanks serving light industrial businesses.
Additional contamination may have come from the underground tanks of an adjacent gas station. A barrier will stretch 45 feet down from ground level to limit future possible fuel leakage.
An oil well operates across the street, but officials said they’ve found no associated risks. Like many local campuses, this school also sits above an oil field, but no oil field-related methane has been detected.
Groundwater about 45 feet below the surface remains contaminated but also poses no risk, officials said.
Because the district imported clean dirt, the school is probably safe at the moment, said Jane Williams, executive director of the Kern County-based California Communities Against Toxics. But she and other critics, including Robina Suwol, who heads the locally based California Safe Schools coalition, worry that the pollution sources have not been adequately identified and that the dirty groundwater could recontaminate the soil.
Got that? The school is “probably” safe “at the moment.” Just imagine how excited the kids will be on their first day of school. And just imagine how excited the parents will be if the kids survive.
We would never question the mental capacity of anyone who hangs out with Kathy Griffin, because assuming that anyone who hangs out with Griffin actually possesses mental capability is a bit of a stretch. Even for us.

But in this case, it’s not so much Levi Johnston’s dubious intelligence that we’re questioning, but his dubious character.
Levi: Liar, lowlife, lothario, loser
For some reason – can it be anything other than hating on everything Palin? – the media continues to give air time to Alaska’s leading lowlife. Consider, for example, his recent appearance on The Early Show.
When asked if he has any regrets, Levi Johnston replied, “I don’t really regret anything. But the only thing I wish I wouldn’t have done is to put out that apology [to Sarah Palin] ’cause it kind of makes me sound like a liar. And I’ve never lied about anything. So that’s probably the only thing. The rest of the stuff I can live with.”
The only possible explanation for Johnston’s butchery of logic and the English language is the fact that the Early Show doesn’t drug screen its guests.
It also shows the media’s willingness to forgive anyone anything should they choose to attack Palin.
Fascinating. Intriguing. Compelling. Engrossing. Mesmerizing. Spellbinding. Tantalizing. Oh, sorry. We were just suggesting a few words other than “interesting” for Chris Matthews to use next time one of his guests makes a blatantly racist statement.
Oh, sorry. We were just suggesting a few words other than “interesting” for Chris Matthews to use next time one of his guests makes a blatantly racist statement.
In this case, it was Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Tucker: Well I think it may help the Democrats in some races this time, Chris, because some of the Tea Party candidates are so extreme. But there is another issue. There is, as Norah said, a whole lot of voter anger, discontent out there. We haven’t talked about the elephant in the room, and I don’t mean the Republicans: race. Changing demographics. Fear of a white minority.
Matthews: That’s so interesting.
Tucker: Obama’s election has suddenly made many white Americans aware of the loss of a white majority.
If, as liberals would have you believe, conservatives are rabidly anti-Muslim, they would certainly be against having mosques in their own neighborhoods. But a tidbit buried in a new Newsweek poll shows just the opposite.
If, as liberals would have you believe, conservatives are rabidly anti-Muslim, they would certainly be against having mosques in their own neighborhoods. But a tidbit buried in a new Newsweek poll shows just the opposite.
CBS4 in Miami reveals the interesting Islamic insights:
Site of the newest mosque in Washington, DC?
A new Newsweek poll of registered voters highlights the divide between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents over the issue of Islam and President Barack Obama.
According to the poll, 51 percent of Republicans think it’s definitely or probably true that President Obama ”sympathizes with the goals of Islamic fundamentalists who want to impose Islamic law around the world.”
In addition, 59 percent of Republicans and 28 percent of political independents think “Obama favors the interests of Muslim Americans over other groups of Americans.”
The poll results come as conservative circles have exploded in furor over a proposed Muslim community center that would be built a few blocks away from the former home of the World Trade Center. However, the poll found that 72 percent said it would be okay if a Muslim group wanted to build a mosque in their community.
In response, a liberal spokesman said, “Yeah, but…yeah, but…yeah, but….”
Here’s a clip of Schultz interviewing embattled Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold, who comes up with an interesting theory as to why his poll numbers suck. It’s Bush’s fault.
Poor Ed Schultz has turned into the mother lode of political comedy lately. Don’t get us wrong – it’s all unintentional, but that doesn’t make it any less hilarious.
Here’s a clip of Schultz interviewing embattled Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold, who comes up with an interesting theory as to why his poll numbers suck.
Schultz: Senator Russ Feingold joins us tonight here on the Ed Show. Senator, good to have you with us tonight. You know, you have been one of the most hard-working guys out there. You do over 70 town hall meetings a year. What are you hearing in Wisconsin? And why are you polling below 50%?
Feingold: Well, this is a year of challenges because of the mess that was left us from the Bush years.
“It’s Bush’s fault,” Feingold said before leaving the Improv stage. “Thank you. Thank you very much. I’ll be here all week.”
Steven Rattner, President Obama’s original Car Czar, has written a new book called Overhaul that says Obama was “out to get” GM and Chrysler. Obama’s decisions, Rattner says, were political, not economic.
Steven Rattner, President Obama’s original Car Czar, has written a new book called Overhaul that says Obama was “out to get” General Motors (GM) and Chrysler. Obama’s decisions, Rattner says, were political, not economic.
President Obama is not smiling about Steven Rattner's new book.
Here are the highlights (or lowlights, if you prefer) from the Huffington Post:
When Obama was told of the plan to pay GM CEO Rick Wagoner a $7.1 million severance package after Obama ordered that he be sacked, Rattner writes: “Suddenly I felt that I was indeed in the presence of a community organizer…”
Rattner describes presidential political adviser David Axelrod coming to car meetings armed with poll data to support the takeover and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel identify Congressmen in whose districts large Chrysler facilities were located.
”[Obama’s economic team] veered dangerously close to having the government take control of the two most troubled banks, Bank of America and Citigroup.”
”If his team had linked arms with the outgoing administration, as President Bush’s advisers had proposed, billions of dollars could well have been saved.”
Rattner says Chief of Staff Rahm Emanual dictated Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s schedule, public appearances and staff selections.
He says Obama economic advisers Larry Summers and Austan Goolsbee and FDIC Chair Sheila Bair as enemies who slowed down decision making with infighting
Rattner said Obama was frustrated with the auto companies from the start: “Why can’t they make a Corolla?” he has Obama asking.
We just hope that someone sitting around that big conference room table had the guts to look at the President and said, “They could make a Corolla, Mr. President, but because of the union workforce and idiotic governmental regulations, it would cost twice as much.”
Apparently, Loretta Sanchez thought it would be a good idea to have one of the key culprits in the financial meltdown, Barney Frank, speak on her behalf in conservative Orange County.
The closer we get to the November elections, the easier it is to crank out all these IHateTheMedia.com stories every day. We don’t even really have to do any writing, because the increasingly desperate Democrats do it for us.
For example, Massachusetts Congressman and Fannie Mae flack Barney Frank winged his way west to campaign for embattled California Congresswoman and rumored tart Loretta Sanchez. Apparently, Sanchez thought it would be a good idea to have one of the key culprits in the financial meltdown speak on her behalf in conservative Orange County.
That’s where Frank came up with this gem.
Frank: “Now here is what apparently happened on Jan. 21, 2009 … if you listen to the Republicans. It was, after Pearl Harbor Day or 9/11 of 2001, the worst day in American history.”
So as we understand Crair’s reasoning, it was wrong for a liberal like Moulitsas to compare conservatives to the Taliban because only conservatives are vile enough to make such an invalid comparison about their opponents.
Yeah, we realize that that headline may sound a bit convoluted, but it really is accurate reflection of one liberal critic’s response to another liberal’s new book.
Markos Moulitsas, the head wacko over at the Daily Kos, has written an inflammatory new book called American Taliban in which he compares the conservative movement to, you guessed it, the Taliban. And he does it in all seriousness. Earnestness, one might even say.
American Taliban author Markos Moulitsas. Or possibly comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
According to the book’s dust cover description, “America’s primary international enemy–Islamic radicalism–insists on government by theocracy, curtails civil liberties, embraces torture, represses women, wants to eradicate homosexuals from society, and insists on the use of force over diplomacy. Remind you of a certain American political party? In American Taliban, Markos Moulitsas pulls no punches as he compares how the Republican Party and Islamic radicals maintain similar worldviews and tactics. Moulitsas also challenges the media, fellow progressives, and our elected officials to call the radical right on their jihadist tactics more forcefully for the good of our nation and safety of all citizens.”
Well, Moulitsas book is so far over the top that even many liberals are ripping it to shreds. The Atlantic offers up a number of those reviews, but this is our favorite:
The Daily Beast’s Ben Crair says American Taliban “might have just as easily been written by Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter. This is a liberal’s attempt at a conservative bestseller. … Moulitsas made it his mission to create a movement on the left similar to the one that Limbaugh and Coulter helped to build on the right. … If the Democrats run the country for the next 50 years because Moulitsas has taught them to fight fire with fire, then I guess I won’t complain. I just wish reading American Taliban didn’t make me feel like a member of the Conservative Book Club.”
So as we understand Crair’s reasoning, it was wrong for a liberal like Moulitsas to compare conservatives to the Taliban because only conservatives are vile enough to make such an invalid comparison about their opponents.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call circular reasoning. And we don’t mind admitting that we got a bit dizzy going around in that circle.
Oh, and one other thing: If Limbaugh or Coulter had written the book, it would (a) sell a lot more copies, and (b) be a lot funnier.
George Bush may not have the intellectual firepower of the Greatest President In History, but he had his own way of cutting through the crap.
George Bush may not have the intellectual firepower of the Greatest President In History, but he had his own way of cutting through the crap.
Tony Blair tells one story in his new autobiography:
We preferred George Bush's mangled syntax to Barack Obama's mangled economy
In his new book, A Journey, Mr Blair writes that the former US president was confused by the presence of Guy Verhofstadt at the 2001 G8 summit in Genoa.
“He didn’t know or recognise Guy, whose advice he listened to with considerable astonishment,” Mr Blair writes. “He then turned to me and whispered, ‘Who is this guy?’ ‘He is the prime minister of Belgium,’ I said.
“Belgium? George said, clearly aghast at the possible full extent of his stupidity. ‘Belgium is not part of the G8’.”
Mr Blair explained to Mr Bush that Mr Verhofstadt was there as “president of Europe”. Belgium held the presidency of the EU council at the time.
Mr Bush responded: “You got the Belgians running Europe?” before shaking his head, “now aghast at our stupidity”, Mr Blair writes.
What’s the only thing worse than having Belgians running Europe? Having a community organizer running the United States.

He’s not really a president, but he plays one on TV. And as Rasmussen reports, the poseur isn’t fooling anyone anymore:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-seven percent (47%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23.
That’s the highest level of Strong Disapproval and the lowest Approval Index daily rating yet recorded for this president.
…Overall, 42% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president’s performance. This matches the lowest approval rating yet measured for President Obama. Fifty-seven percent (57%) now disapprove.
Good work, American people. Take the rest of the weekend off.
The increasingly-annoying Robert Gibbs really needs to go down to Barnes & Noble and buy himself a copy of “How To Win Friends And Influence People.” Because his behavior is even starting to piss off his dwindling band of supporters.

One member of the White House press corps had the temerity – the temerity – to ask Gibbs why the President has been AWOL this summer as his party’s approval numbers plummeted.
Gibbs response? He giggled like a little girl and told the reporter that he sounded like a radio guy.
Translation: “Aw, crap, even my friends are starting to sound like Rush Limbaugh.”

It appears that über genius Stephen Hawking has officially lost his mind. Hawking said: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”
It appears that über genius Stephen Hawking has officially lost his mind.
According to our good friends across the pond at The Telegraph UK:
Stephen Hawking is a chick magnet. Or maybe they're just drawn to him by gravity.
In his latest book, The Grand Design, an extract of which is published in Eureka magazine in The Times, Hawking said: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”
He added: “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going.”
Got that? Gravity, a force that can only be created by matter, created the matter that then created the gravity that could not have existed before the matter but all the same created the universe. Remember, kids, this is the man that thinks you’re stupid for believing in God.
However, as good science is all about competing theories we’d like to posit one of our own.
Perhaps Dr. Hawking hasn’t really lost his mind. Perhaps all his recent talk of bellicose, time traveling space aliens and a universe created by illogic is merely a ruse. A clever ruse intended to raise the cosmologist’s cachet with the general public and finally get him a shot at appearing on Dancing with the Stars.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 75% of Likely Voters nationwide want Congress to cut its own pay until the federal budget is balanced.
John Kerry is not one of those blood sucking leeches who live off the American taxpayer. He's a blood sucking gigolo.
Voters want Congress to stop spending money. Especially on itself.
Rasmussen has the tale of the tightening purse strings:
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 75% of Likely Voters nationwide want Congress to cut its own pay until the federal budget is balanced.
Only 16% disagree with that approach and nine percent (9%) are not sure.
Not surprisingly, there is a huge gap between Mainstream voters and the Political Class on this topic. Eighty-five percent (85%) of those in the Mainstream want Congress to cut its own pay while 74% of those in the Political Class do not (see more on the Political Class—Mainstream classification.)
Overall, 78% say that any pay raises for Congress should be submitted first to voters before the legislators can receive the extra income.
“Political Class” is an oxymoron. Like “Senate Intelligence Committee”.

Combine Press’ fear with Ed Schultz’ lunacy and you get yourself quite a little package.
Schultz: Bill Cunningham, radio talk show host out of Ohio, who’s a severe righty, is saying that he is going to be broadcasting from The Tan Man’s–John Boehner’s–office on Election Night.
Press: Well, first of all, I checked. It is legal in the House for members can allow broadcasters to broadcast from their offices, I’m sorry, I’m sorry to say … But I’ve got to tell you, Ed, so it’s legal to be there, but if I were Bill Cunningham I’d stay home. Because once the results come in, it’s going to be like a morgue in Boehner’s office. You and I, you and I ought to broadcast, Ed, you and I ought to broadcast from Nancy Pelosi’s balcony. That’s where the party’s going to be.
Just picture Bill Press liquored up on some taxpayer-purchased booze stolen from Pelosi’s personal government airplane, a few deflated balloons and a whole lot of deflated egos.
Don’t look for the Huffington Post to recycle last year’s column about Obama the “strategist” as one of its great journalistic efforts of the decade.
Toying with its prey: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the cat, Barack Obama has been the mouse.
Don’t look for the Huffington Post to recycle its column about Obama the “strategist” as one of its great journalistic efforts of the decade.
At about this time last year we lambasted a HuffPo article about The Greatest Strategist Ever’s dealings with Iran.
The HuffPo article, hilariously entitled “Outmaneuvering Iran”, contained a lot of material that didn’t make it into our original story. Not because of space, but quite frankly, because we grew weary of reading HuffPo.
Regardless, here are some of the leftist pearls of wisdom that missed our first cut:
“Obama is now well positioned to unite world leaders in a long-term strategy to back Iran away from nuclear weapons. While some nations mistrusted the previous administration–fearing a repeat of the Iraq War–they have more confidence in Obama. They don’t believe he will use military force, except as a last resort.”
And then there was this little gem:
“Meanwhile, Obama’s missile defense decision–a move that puts more military assets in position more quickly against the Iranian missiles–not only increases the pressure on Iran but allows Russia to move closer to the U.S. position without appearing to be buckling to America.”
Yes, all this has obviously worked out so very well. We’re only surprised that Obama doesn’t have the U.S. help Iran load fuel rods into its reactors just to show them that we knew that they knew that we knew they knew. Or something like that.
We may not be Jean Dixon here, but give us credit on calling it a year ago. The left was crazy then. And it’s even crazier now.
According to Chris Matthews, Obama could solve all his problems if he would just dump his trusty Teleprompter. That’s the key to communicating with the American people and selling his message.
According to Chris Matthews, Obama could solve all his problems if he would just dump his trusty Teleprompter. That’s the key to communicating with the American people and selling his message.
“I really support the President on a lot of his views, in fact all of them almost,” Matthews complained, “but I got to tell you something, Michael, if he doesn’t get rid of that damn Teleprompter, it’s like an eye test. He’s just reading words now. It’s separating him from us.”
“You got to a meeting with him I’m told, if businessmen are invited to meet him at the White House, he hauls out the damn Teleprompter and he reads to them. Well, why even bring people into the room? Just have the damn Teleprompter. I sense it’s getting between him and us. And I thought that speech last night was a terrible, well, a great example rather of him using the Teleprompter instead of his heart and his mind.”
You’re right, Chris. It’s all the Teleprompter’s fault. Obama’s not a socialist, the Teleprompter’s a socialist. Either that or the Teleprompter is a Republican plant. It’s forcing him to read its words. He’s a helpless victim of the Teleprompter, damn it. It’s not his fault.
Afghanistan’s dirty little secret: For centuries, Afghan men have taken boys, roughly 9 to 15 years old, as lovers.
Just the show Afghan TV needs: Dancing For the Kandahars
Most people would think of it as Afghanistan’s dirty little secret. But President Obama may want to consider it a whole different brand of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.
Either way, this is the kind of news that could make even the most recalcitrant Democrat support the Afghanistan war. It’s like Proposition 8 on steroids.
It comes from SFGate:
For centuries, Afghan men have taken boys, roughly 9 to 15 years old, as lovers. Some research suggests that half the Pashtun tribal members in Kandahar and other southern towns are bacha baz, the term for an older man with a boy lover. Literally it means “boy player.” The men like to boast about it.
“Having a boy has become a custom for us,” Enayatullah, a 42-year-old in Baghlan province, told a Reuters reporter. “Whoever wants to show off should have a boy.”
In Kandahar, population about 500,000, and other towns, dance parties are a popular, often weekly, pastime. Young boys dress up as girls, wearing makeup and bells on their feet, and dance for a dozen or more leering middle-aged men who throw money at them and then take them home. A recent State Department report called “dancing boys” a “widespread, culturally sanctioned form of male rape.”. . .
“How can you fall in love if you can’t see her face,” 29-year-old Mohammed Daud told reporters. “We can see the boys, so we can tell which are beautiful.”
Even after marriage, many men keep their boys, suggesting a loveless life at home. A favored Afghan expression goes: “Women are for children, boys are for pleasure.”
Fundamentalist imams, exaggerating a biblical passage on menstruation, teach that women are “unclean” and therefore distasteful. One married man even asked Cardinalli’s team “how his wife could become pregnant,” her report said. When that was explained, he “reacted with disgust” and asked, “How could one feel desire to be with a woman, who God has made unclean?”
The bad news? That is one effed up society and one effed up religion.
The good news? PETA will be happy to that Afghanistan’s goats are safe and NAMBLA members will be racing over to Kandahar to join the war effort.
Good Lord. What a day. First we find ourselves defending CNN’s Rick Sanchez and now we find ourselves agreeing with Howard Fineman and Chris Matthews.
Good Lord. What a day. First we find ourselves defending CNN’s Rick Sanchez and now we find ourselves agreeing with Howard Fineman and Chris Matthews.
Does anyone have any smelling salts handy? We’re feeling a little faint right now.
But back to the story. Fineman made one of his regular appearances on Hardball and made the point that Obama caused his own “Is Obama a Muslim” problem by not going to church.
Fineman: Can I say something here that’ll probably get me in trouble? But I’m going to say it anyway. Barack Obama probably should have joined a church here. OK? Now, I’m not excusing any of the hatred or nasty language or any of the dirty strategy that we’re talking about. But some things in politics you have to do at least for the symbolism. Matthews: Yes. Fineman: Now, he quit the Jeremiah Wright church. OK? But he hasn’t joined any other. Matthews: Yes. Fineman: And had he done so and if he’d done so, but especially if he’d done so… Matthews: Yes. Fineman: … after he came to town, a lot of this stuff would never have arisen, in my view. Matthews: Yes.
So there you have it. Fineman and Matthews making sense and us agreeing with them.
A few weeks ago we reported that it may be months before the new troops Obama promised to station on the Mexican border actually show up. One Arizona sheriff is now steaming mad because the government is delivering signs almost as fast as it’s delivering troops.
A few weeks ago we reported that it may be months before the new troops Obama promised to station on the Mexican border actually show up. One Arizona sheriff is now steaming mad because the government is delivering signs almost as fast as it’s delivering troops.
CNS News reports the details of the deficiency:
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said requests by Arizona law enforcement personnel and Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) for 3,000 National Guard troops along the state’s border with Mexico have been answered so far with 1 percent of that number deployed there this week.
“We have a whopping 30 [National Guard troops] this week that are showing up,” Babeu told CNSNews.com. “It’s less than a half-hearted measure designed to fail.”
But the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has placed 15 signs along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 that links San Diego with Phoenix and Tucson warning travelers of drug cartels and human trafficking operations.
We fully expect the Obama administration to announce that these signs cost $1,000,000 each and created or saved 53,000 jobs.
Turns out that Obama soul mate Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts, is no Glenn Beck fan. Michael Graham of WTKK asked Patrick a simple question and got a surprising answer.
Turns out that Obama soul mate Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts, is no Glenn Beck fan. Michael Graham of WTKK asked Patrick a simple question and got a surprising answer.
Graham’s question: “Do you have a problem with Glenn Beck having his rally at the Lincoln Memorial?”
Patrick’s response? “It’s a free country. I wish it weren’t.”
Keep in mind that Patrick and Obama have a lot in common. They are both creations of puppet master David Axelrod. Axelrod created similar campaign mantras for both: “Yes We Can” for Obama and “Together We Can” for Patrick.
