Audi proudly introduces the shittiest car on the road today

Imagine the grand unveiling at the Frankfort Auto Show. A sexy model pulls away the sheet hiding the newest Audi as an announcer says, “Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the all new 2010 Audi e-Tron.” And the French reporters fall to the floor, laughing hysterically.

Gas2.org has the story of Audi’s shitty day:

audi etron
Introducing the exciting new 2010 Audi Excrement-mobile

Naming cars in this day of globalization has become an exercise of gargantuan proportions. For marketers and brand managers, the trick is to avoid a name that can be translated as something less than appealing in one of the dozens of languages you plan on marketing in. Even so, every now and then we get one that is slightly out of place, but usually it’s not a huge misstep.

But has Audi crossed the line from funny to major blunder in naming their entire upcoming electric car brand “e-tron”? It appears they have because, as it turns out, the word “étron” in French means “excrement.” And Germany and France even share a border!

Audi’s e-tron brand has certainly had its fair share of the limelight—garnering lots of hype from the first entrant, the R8 e-tron. It’s a super sexy electric rocket that Audi says they will produce in a limited run. But now imagine it if you happen to speak French; “super sexy crap rocket” doesn’t really have much of a ring to it.

A personal story from the editor:

Back in my ad agency days, a client once asked us to translate its successful American ad campaign into German. We hired a translator to do the work. Unfortunately, no one at the agency nor at the client’s American office spoke German, so no one realized that two letters had been transposed in the final version of the ad. Our mistake, in retrospect, was in not having someone in the client’s German office proofread the ad. As soon as it ran, the client was flooded with phone calls. Turns out that as a result of those transposed letters, the headline said, “Our products are assholes.”

I feel Audi’s pain.

Is it just us or are Democrats are beginning to sound like Baghdad Bob?

More and more Democrats are coming out publicly to express their confidence in retaining control of the House in the November midterms.

More and more Democrats are coming out publicly to express their confidence in retaining control of the House in the November midterms.

The latest to join the chorus – despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary – is House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who, with good reason, is seldom allowed to speak in public.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Hoyer repeatedly insisted, “We’re going to hold the House” and “We don’t have any weak candidates.”

Let us just say three words: Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf?

You may remember al-Sahaf (aka Baghdad Bob), Saddam Hussein’s Information Minister. During the early days of the Iraq War, he became famous for saying things like “They’re not even within 100 miles of Baghdad. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion … they are trying to sell to the others an illusion.” This as American tanks rolled by in the background.

No one could ignore the facts like Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf. Until now, that is.

20 things CNN’s Kiran Chetry might have been doing to piss off her co-anchor

Have you seen this angry exchange between CNN’s American Morning co-anchors John Roberts and Kiran Chetry?

Have you seen this angry exchange between CNN’s American Morning co-anchors John Roberts and Kiran Chetry?

Just as Roberts was introducing White House advisor David Axelrod on Wednesday morning, he reprimanded Chetry for something she was doing off-camera.

Mediaite.com describes the uncomfortable situation:

“Let me ask you first of all,” pause, smile, restart. “Let me ask you first of all, David, if I could, before we get into the…”

Full stop. Then, Roberts turned to where Chetry was sitting next to him (she had been on camera earlier in the segment), and said, with Axelrod still in the double-box shot: “Would you mind not doing that while I’m talking? Thank you, I appreciate that.” Then, added for emphasis and sarcasm, “If you don’t mind.”

And then back to the interview.

Here’s the video clip:

What was Chetry doing off-camera that caused Roberts to snap? We have a few possibilities:

  1. Printing out a cover letter to accompany the resume she was sending to Fox News
  2. Laughing at Rick Sanchez videos on YouTube
  3. Tweeting that she couldn’t decide if David Axelrod looks more like Hitler or that guy who played Higgins on Magnum P.I.
  4. Doing some hands-on research for the Christine O’Donnell anti-masturbation campaign
  5. Drawing Mohammed
  6. Painting Anderson Cooper’s nails
  7. Slipping Viagra into Larry King’s coffee
  8. Slipping saltpeter into Larry King’s coffee
  9. Playing with Roberts’ bottle of Ritalin pills
  10. Tapping out the letters A-D-H-D in Morse code with her pen
  11. Tweeting, “Axelrod. Isn’t that redundant?”
  12. Daydreaming about taking that gig as the Jets locker room correspondent
  13. Breast-feeding Larry King
  14. Waxing
  15. Eating a banana with hits of whipped cream straight out of the can
  16. Sock puppet reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg
  17. Calculating pi on an abacus
  18. Showing Joey Chestnut her own special hot dog eating technique
  19. Pulling the skin on her face back until she looked like Nancy Pelosi

Close your eyes and try to picture President Obama doing this commercial (Oh, my god, we crack ourselves up)

Sean Duffy is a Republican running for Congress in Wisconsin. His campaign people came up with a creative, manly man’s way to demonstrate his promise to “bring the axe to Washington.” Watch the video, then try to imagine our current president doing something as manly.

John Kerry wants to make sure immigration agents say please and thank you to illegal aliens

John Kerry is out there burnishing his liberal credentials by demanding that immigration agents be more “humane” while risking their lives arresting drug dealers and human traffickers.

We exaggerate, but not by much. John Kerry is out there burnishing his liberal credentials by demanding that immigration agents be more “humane” while risking their lives arresting drug dealers and human traffickers.

Politico.com has the details:

john kerry
John Kerry wants to make sure immigration agents don't operate in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan

As Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano led a naturalization ceremony for more than 5,000 new Americans at Fenway Park, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on Tuesday pitched a bill requiring federal authorities to take a more “humane” approach when enforcing immigration laws.

The “Families First Immigration Enforcement Act of 2010” calls for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to give state agencies advanced notice before an immigration raid so they can provide translators for the detainees.

The Kerry bill would also require ICE to check detainees to see if any should be released on the grounds that they are too sick, too old, pregnant or nursing, or fall under other vulnerable groups.

You know that the liberals will stretch the definition of “sick” until it includes the common cold. “Oops. Can’t arrest Jose. He says he feels a scratchy throat coming on.”

We have the audio: Congresswoman leaves voicemail asking lobbyists for cash

DC Democrat Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton actually left a voicemail for a lobbyist in which she strong-armed him for money by citing her seniority and all the stimulus-funded projects she had helped secure in his “sector.”

Non-voting District of Columbia Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton – a Democrat, naturally – is a moron. A corrupt moron.

This corrupt moron actually left a voicemail for a lobbyist in which she strong-armed him for money by citing her seniority and all the stimulus-funded projects she had helped secure in his “sector.”

“I was, frankly, uhhh, uhhh, surprised to see that we don’t have a record, so far as I can tell, of your having given to me despite my uh, long and deep, uhhh, work. In fact, it’s been my major work, uhhh, on the committee and sub-committee it’s been essentially in your sector. I am, I’m simply candidly calling to ask for a contribution. As the senior member of the, ummm, committee and a sub-committee chair, we have (laughs) obligations to raise, uhhh, funds.”

Congratulations, Congresswoman Norton. You just earned a nomination as Dumbest Member of Congress 2010.

Dissension in the liberal ranks: Bill Clinton goes after Rachel Maddow

Bill Clinton and Rachel Maddow: they’re both Rhodes Scholars. They’re both good liberals. Why under different circumstances, you could imagine the two of them going out and chasing chicks together.

Bill Clinton Rache Maddow
Good news for Rachel Maddow: Someone's paying attention to her program

It’s sad when two guys who have so much in common can’t get along.

Take Bill Clinton and Rachel Maddow, for example. They’re both Rhodes Scholars. They’re both good liberals. Why under different circumstances, you could imagine the two of them going out and chasing chicks together.

And yet, they feud.

Politico has the sad story:

Bill Clinton flashed irritation at MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and other liberals Monday for failing to appreciate the successes of his presidency.

“One of the leading television commentators on one of our liberal cable channels said I was the best Republican president the country ever produced, which would come [as] quite a surprise to the Republicans, half of whom still think I’m a closet communist,” Clinton said during an appearance with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Clinton didn’t mention Maddow by name, but she made that comment on her March 31 show.

“What she meant by that was I didn’t necessarily follow their ‘conventional wisdom,’” he said. “I said, ‘What do you mean?!’”

Clinton said he accomplished more for the poor and middle class than traditional, New Deal-era liberalism ever could have. He touted his welfare-to-work program, which he said cut the rolls by 60 percent.

We hope these two can patch things up, because it’s going to be a lonely few years for liberals and they’re going to need all the friends they can get.

Seems right, because the nation has certainly OD’ed on their tax-and-spend policies in the last twenty months. OD’d on socialism. OD’ed on deficits. OD’ed on Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. OD’ed on public employee unions. OD’ed on $timulus. OD’ed on unemployment. OD’ed on the coddling of radical Islam. And certainly OD’ed on community organizers.

Nice of the Democrats to acknowledge it.

Harry Reid has apparently turned his back on the Democrat Party and is now campaigning for Republicans. How else can you explain his very odd comments about Chris Coons, Christine O’Donnell’s Democrat opponent?

The Hill reveals Harry’s devious plan to lose the Biden seat in Delaware:

harry-reid-chris-coons-pet
Being Harry Reid's pet is bad enough, but don't let him pet you.

Reid said Coons would have won even if Rep. Mike Castle (R) had prevailed over O’Donnell.

“I’m going to be very honest with you — Chris Coons, everybody knows him in the Democratic caucus. He’s my pet. He’s my favorite candidate,” Reid said.

“Let me tell you about him: A graduate of Yale Divinity School. Yale Law School. A two-time national debate champion. He represents two-thirds of the state now, in an elected capacity. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen him or heard him speak, but he is a dynamic speaker. I don’t mean loud or long; he’s a communicator. So that’s how I feel about Delaware. I’ve always thought Chris Coons is going to win. I told him that and I tried to get him to run. I’m glad he’s running. I just think the world of him. He’s my pet.”

My pet? Reid is one “cara mia” away from sounding like Gomez Addams cooing to Morticia. Reid is one of the most reviled politicians in Washington, DC. This can’t help Coons.

Obama touts glory of electric cars, neglects to mention their $33,000 batteries

The President is out there touting an electric car that uses a battery that is, all by itself, more far expensive than the average car. And this is what he uses as an example of the success of his stimulus program.

You get to attend a lot of nice parties when you’re the President. For example, President Obama traveled to Michigan the other day to get down and get funky at the opening of a high tech battery factory. Of course, he touted the factory’s products as evidence of the success of his stimulus program.

The Associated Press reports his electrifying comments:

battery-for-electric-car
In case you've ever wondered what a $33,000 battery looks like

“This is about the birth of an entire new industry in America, an industry that’s going to be central to the next generation of cars,” Obama said Monday in a phone call broadcast at the opening of A123 Systems Inc.’s lithium ion battery plant in Livonia, Mich.

“And it’s going to allow us to start exporting those cars, making them comfortable, convenient, and affordable. …. When folks lift up their hoods on the cars of the future, I want them to see engines and batteries that are stamped: ‘Made in America,’” Obama said, according to a transcript of the call released by the White House…

Buried waaaaaaay down in the story was this little gem:

Costs are high. The government has estimated that a battery with a 100-mile range costs about $33,000, although stimulus money could bring that down to $10,000 by the end of 2015.

Got that? The President is out there touting an electric car that uses a battery that is, all by itself, far more expensive than the average car. And this is what he uses as an example of the success of his stimulus program.

Lunacy. Complete lunacy.

Michelle Obama thinks being America’s First Lady is ‘hell,’ Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet new book.

Miss Bruni reveals that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president’s wife: ‘Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!’

Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla And The Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni.

We feel your pain, Michelle. So we promise to do everything we can to get you out of that job as soon as possible. And a lot of other Americans are going to join us in that effort.

The Detroit News has, as its name would imply, the news:

The Heartland Institute reports that while the Senate Majority Hypocrite “and other high-profile environmental activists blasted carbon-based fuels at the Reid-sponsored summit, Reid and other bigwigs were caught on film driving to and from the summit in several SUVs.”

“I was absolutely astonished, not to mention appalled, that Harry Reid would retain a fleet of gas-guzzling SUVs so that he and a few aides would not have to walk the mere 100 yards to address environmental activists,” said Heartland Institute Senior Fellow James M. Taylor, who took the attached photo. “If greenhouse gas emissions are such a problem, you would think Reid might have actually made the short stroll through the parking lot, or at least retain Priuses rather than large SUVs for the summit,” said Taylor.

Read your own words, Taylor. The man would have had to walk 100 yards. One hundred yards. Have you seen Harry Reid lately? We’re not sure the decrepit old curmudgeon could actually walk that far under his own power.

President Obama has wiped the smile off Terry O'Neill's face

Women’s rights groups — including the National Organization for Women (NOW) and The New Agenda — have sharply criticized the White House for not including more women in prominent positions overseeing the economy and financial policy. The groups are pressuring the president to nominate Elizabeth Warren as the inaugural head of a new consumer financial protection office.

“It’s very disappointing. You can’t say unexpected but very disappointing that the president is content to build a boy’s club in the White House in many areas,” Amy Siskind, head of The New Agenda, said Friday after the president named Goolsbee to the job.

“The problem with the president insulating himself with the old boys around him is that he is really not getting information about how people are struggling, how women are struggling,” Terry O’Neill, head of NOW, said earlier last week.

You have to admit that the women have a point. They couldn’t screw this economy up any more than Obama’s boyfriends have.

Martinez, by the way, leads Denish 48-43 in the latest Rasmussen poll.

Obama says “Combat is over in Iraq,” soldiers say “What the hell are you talking about?”

Think of it as President Obama’s Mission Accomplished moment. The moment, that is, when he announced that the American combat mission in Iraq was over thanks to his decisive leadership.

Think of it as President Obama’s Mission Accomplished moment. The moment, that is, when he announced that the American combat mission in Iraq was over thanks to his decisive leadership.

Reuters – left wing Reuters, of all places – has the details:

iraq-war-troops
President Obama says combat is over in Iraq. The troops beg to differ.

U.S. Staff Sergeant Kendrick Manuel swung his rifle over his shoulder and grumbled about being viewed as a “non-combat” soldier in Iraq.

“When NBC talked about the last combat troops are gone, they made it sound like everything is basically over,” he said, after escorting a 19-truck convoy through a part of northern Iraq where roadside bombs and mortar attacks are still a danger.

“To us it was like a slap in the face, because we are still here … we are still going in harm’s way every time we leave out of the gate,” Manuel said at a U.S. military base, Camp Speicher, near Saddam Hussein’s home town of Tikrit.

On August 31, the U.S. military formally declared an end to its combat mission in Iraq, 7-1/2 years after the invasion that removed Saddam and led to sectarian warfare and a fierce insurgency in which tens of thousands of Iraqis were killed.

More than 4,400 U.S. soldiers have been killed since 2003.
U.S. networks such as NBC showed what the U.S. military labeled the last combat brigade rumbling into Kuwait. Soldiers whooped and shouted on camera that the war was over.

Yet, there are still six brigades made up of 50,000 troops in Iraq, ahead of a full withdrawal at the end of 2011. Their focus is to assist and advise their Iraqi counterparts, not lead the fight against insurgents, but they remain heavily armed and face frequent threats.

Well, what the hell. We say cut the Obama administration a little slack on this one. It’s as close to the truth as they’ve come in many months.

John Kerry made his money the old-fashioned way - by marrying a rich, unattractive widow

Last week, the member of the Senate Finance Committee told the Boston Globe, “Under no circumstances do I believe we should give a blanket extension to the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans — it won’t fix our economy and it will add billions to the long-term structural deficit.”

But in a late July committee meeting, Kerry said he would support a one- to two-year extension of the Bush tax cuts for the rich, if it was part of a bill that also extended middle-class cuts for a longer period, according to person familiar with the situation.

As it happens, that is precisely an idea that committee Chairman Max Baucus of Montana is floating, the person said.

Kerry spokeswomen declined to comment on whether he supported a limited extension.

For them in July. Against them in September. Definitely for them again on April 15.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.

The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law. The washing portion of the study is set to end in 2011.

“NIH Announces the Availability of Recovery Act Funds for Competitive Revision Applications,” the grant abstract states. “We propose to evaluate the feasibility of a post-coital genital hygiene study among men unwilling to be circumcised in Orange Farm, South Africa.”
