Sanders verses Greenspan is not as Interesting as Greenspan verses Greenspan: You may have seen it recently. A meme purporting to show that Bernie Sanders called out the Alan Greenspan and predicted the Great Recession some five years before it happened. To Sanders supporters this is an amazing thing, however from the rest of us it illicits a giant “meh”. Lots of people predicted the housing bubble crash and did so decades before the scheme was begun. From Mises to Hayek and even Greenspan in 1966 and 1977. In fact if Greenspan had acted a little more like the free marketers that had once been his mentors and a little less like a Bernie Sanders the whole thing might have been avoided.
