Pair damaged Vietnam War memorial in New Mexico, police say. They should have to spend a month or two at WhiskeyRiver’s bootcamp.

And finally, one about my war, my Memorial. I refused to go see the Wall for almost 40 years, I didn’t want the memories I had tried so hard to erase to come back. After a particularly bad Memorial Day, one of the men I served with had died a couple of months earlier, my wife told me it was time, I had to go. We went to D.C. and it was almost sundown when I got there. I wouldn’t let my wife go with me, I had to do it alone. I never faced a firefight that was as hard as taking those first few steps.

Not many tourists were left but quit a few veterans were still there. One of the vets must have noticed something in my face, like it was my first visit, so he walked with me down that long black wall until we got to the panel where my brothers names were etched. I stood and started at the names for a while but when I reached up and touched one I lost it. I was crying like a baby and that good man stood there with his arm around my shoulders, telling me to let it go. It’s part of the healing process, just let it go. Never did learn that mans name but I will be forever grateful to him because he was right, the healing finally began.

Damn, I just realized something. I have never told that story to anyone, not even my wife. I guess it’s the warmth and friendship of you guys here that have helped me open up and I thank you for it. Even though there are tears running down my cheeks as I write this.

You just reminded me of my father and I haven’t thought about this being Father’s Day at all until now. I went out to dinner with him not very long after Mom had died to meet some people that I think had been part of their high school reunion group. He was the sort of strong silent guy – except when he watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” during the Christmas holidays. He would always tear up a little bit. So four or five of us were sitting at a table in a restaurant in Charlotte and had gotten comfortable with each other and he started to say something about Mom and all of a sudden he was weeping uncontrollably. The rest of us just observed a moment of silence. I mean none of us said a word until he was through. Now of course I’m tearing up a little – so thanks – I needed that.

Reading the comments section FTA. One guy suggests part of the punishment to be community service at the VA for these guys.

I would buy that if the community service were at least 500 hours in a VA medical hospital. Where they could help vets get from their rooms to their doctors. They could change their sheets and keep things clean. They could clean a veterans ass if necessary. They could hear the old stories, learn what those brave men went through. Learn what men are made of instead of thinking being a little punk is cool.

I almost agree.
I don’t think they should be allowed to touch a Veteran until they got through 100 hours of training, and had to see what pain and suffering these men go through. They need to be made to learn respect before being allowed to physically help these brave men.

Dammit CO2, you got me on a roll, hope I don’t get too obnoxious.

Y’all remember when the Obummer closed national monuments because of a government shutdown? Including the WWII Memorial in Washington? The younger veterans said to hell with this, they cut the barriers down and helped the old veterans in so they could see their Memorial.

You look at the emotions on those men’s faces. Look at the emotions on the faces of the younger veterans who cut the barricades down so the WWII vets could see their Memorial. That is how deeply we feel about all our military Memorials and the men who fought.

My wife can barely comprehend why I start crying when I hear Lee Greenwood singing God Bless the USA, or when certain scenes in war movies come on.
The uncontrollable anger I felt when Barky closed down those memorials, was something I barely understood myself. Unless you served, you can’t comprehend the feeling of brotherhood.

Another thing, those little pissants would not like my bootcamp. I’m old school and while things were not like this scene from Full Metal Jacket it was no walk in the park. DI’s couldn’t touch a recruit anymore but they could get in your face screaming, spitting all over you, call you all kinds of names, generally berating you any way they could. They would get us up at 2 am, formed up in the quad in our skivvies and tennis shoes, then we would run for 2 hours. Hit the fartsack at 4am, back up at 5am then a full day of classes and training.

This kid Marvin Reyes: if you are 18 years old and still throwing rocks and then running away to hide in vacant lots, you are either retarded or a hopeless loser. I mean seriously.

I’m betting he is one of those “dreamers” liberals love so much. I know a lot of vets who would give this punk a beatdown he would never forget if they could find him. The best place for him would be jail and even then that is not a gimme.

WTF IS THIS? I have to see this news here because none of our local news stations are bothering with it? I have a few old buddies in Las Cruces and they are hard core, Vietnam veteran bikers. I’m going to make sure they get the one name, they will find the punk and go from there.

The Memorial in Las Cruces is a beautiful place and why anyone would do something like this boggles my mind and really gets the blood pressure raging. I don’t know how to get separate pictures here so I brought a whole page. Enjoy.
