The pop Svengali donated the money for 18-month-old Sophie Atay–from Birtley, Gateshead–to fly to the US for pioneering treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York.

He acted after learning the youngster’s family launched a last-ditch appeal for £500,000 to pay for the treatment last week after they were told Sophie was suffering from a rare form of neuroblastoma and needed treatment within days.

Now hold on just a gol-danged minute here. There’s something very fishy about this story.

We all know Great Britain is a paradise where socialized medicine has done away with all sickness. So why does this little English girl have to fly halfway around the world to get medical care in the United States? And for god’s sake, why does a wealthy stranger have to pay for it?

This is obviously a phony story cooked up by evil Republicans in an attempt to keep the United States from having a wonderful socialized medical system like Great Britain.

And we almost fell for it.

The New York Times is currently creating merriment with some the most disingenuous praise uttered since, “Gee, you don’t sweat much for a fat girl.”

We’re talking about the left’s wining and dining of Maine’s Republican Senator Olympia Snowe. As the Times remarks, “The significance of the Obama-Snowe relationship lies not in the prospect that the president will replicate it with many, or even any, other Republicans. To achieve his objectives, Ms. Snowe may be the only Republican he needs.”

For her part, Snowe seems quite enamored with the President and “… she offered a surprisingly robust endorsement of Mr. Obama’s skepticism about expanding government too much, his willingness to accommodate different views and his assertion that Washington must act now after decades of failure.”

The Times admitted that Mr. Obama and his team began cultivating Ms. Snowe even before he took office in January. “He’s always eliciting my views,” she said, “wondering, you know, what my concerns are.” How sweet.

Snowe also stated that “she has maintained traditional Republican principles over 30 years in Washington, while her party has moved past them to the right.”
Well, sure, if by traditional Republican principles you mean support for abortion and backing Obama on TARP funds and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Rest assured that the New York Times is like that creepy guy from high school. It will drop Snowe as soon as it gets what it wants from her.

We take the picture, we go behind.

“He says, ‘Barack, explain to me this health care debate.’

“He says, ‘We don’t understand it. You’re trying to make sure everybody has health care and they’re putting a Hitler mustache on you — I don’t — that doesn’t make sense to me. Explain that to me.'”

Asked who this was, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would say only “a world leader.”

Oops. Democrats confirm that you’ll be fined up to $25,000 if you don’t buy ObamaCare insurance

Senator John Ensign read the ObamaCare bill, it requires every American to buy insurance, calls for a $1900 penalty for anyone who doesn’t buy insurance, and then calls for a hefty fine on anyone who doesn’t pay the penalty. Violators could be charged could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty.

This is one of those things that’s so simple we wonder why no one thought of it before.

Democrats deny it, but the way Nevada’s Republican Senator John Ensign read the ObamaCare bill, it requires every American to buy insurance, calls for a $1900 penalty for anyone who doesn’t buy insurance, and then calls for a hefty fine on anyone who doesn’t pay the penalty.

So Ensign solved the disagreement simply by asking Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold to confirm his interpretation. Barthold responded with a handwritten note that said:

“Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty.”

It’s a good thing that budget cuts are forcing states to release prisoners early, because they’re going to need the empty cells to house all the ObamaCare debtors.

In a recent article published in the Nation Magazine she takes issues with remarks made by former President Bill Clinton on the Larry King Show.

While on the show, the former President said, “While I have devoted my life to getting rid of racism, I think this [health care] is a fight that my president and our party — this is one we need to win on the merits.” To which Harris-Lacewell remarked, “This statement required a double take. President Clinton said that he has devoted his life to getting rid of racism? And no one challenged this assertion?”

“Clinton used welfare reform and crime legislation to cement his position as a moderate ‘new’ Democrat,” she added. “Clinton’s policies made life substantially more difficult for poor black mothers and led to the incarceration of tens of thousands more black men. Repeatedly during his presidency Clinton found his way to the center by ignoring the material needs of black communities.”

She went on to say America’s First Black President “has a very checkered past involving racial innuendo, stereotypes and racialized political strategies.”

But she may as well have been speaking about America’s Second Black President.

We hope ObamaCare covers Presidential Appearance Fatigue Syndrome (PAFS), because we are really getting tired of seeing this guy on televison.

Media Matters is apparently upset with the mainstream media’s coverage of President Obama recent speech to that Joint Session of Congress. “NBC featured nearly twice as much coverage of Wilson as Obama,” they noted.

Media Matters is apparently upset with the mainstream media’s coverage of President Obama recent speech to that Joint Session of Congress.

“NBC featured nearly twice as much coverage of Wilson as Obama,” they noted. “NBC’s Nightly News provided 3 minutes and 2 seconds of coverage of Obama’s September 9 joint address to Congress, compared to almost twice as much coverage — 5 minutes and 47 seconds — of Wilson’s outburst during that address.”

NBC unfair to Obama? Now there’s a headline.

Media Matters even provided really cool charts that showed minute by minute coverage by the three main networks (ABC, NBC, CBS).

However, by our unscientific finger count, Media Matters had five front page stories focusing on Glenn Beck and none focused on The Greatest President In History.

We’re waiting for the angry statement from Obama accusing Media Matters of Glenn Beck bias. We won’t hold our breath.

However, just 39% of Democrats share that view. Twenty-two percent (22%) of those in the president’s party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure.”

“Despite many media outlets saying that what former Governor Palin was saying wasn’t true, she continued to say it,” Gibbs responded. “I’ll let Webster define what one calls her. I think in the absence of fact… sometimes what happens is we fill the void with stuff that quite frankly isn’t true.” He said Obama helped fill that void in his speech Wednesday night.

It’s unfortunate, but not unsurprising, that King never thought to ask, “Why was the health care bill modified to remove end of life counseling if it could not be misconstrued as death panels?”

Let us fill in the void that Gibb’s answer would create “Ummmmmmmmmm.”

Teddy Kennedy should have sent his letter to Obama via FedEx

In his healthcare speech before a joint session of Congress the other night, President Obama touted a letter he had just received from Ted Kennedy in which the late Lion of the Senate called for passage of health care reform.

And that clearly demonstrates the folly of President Obama lauding the efficiency of the post office in a separate healthcare speech last month.

Kennedy died on August 25. Obama said he received the letter a few days ago. Assuming Kennedy wrote the letter before he died (seems like a relatively safe assumption) that means it took ten days for the letter to get from Boston to Washington, DC despite the fact that its just 440 miles from one to the other and driving time is 7 hours and 41 minutes.

How’s that vaunted post office efficiency working for you, President Obama? Can’t wait until those guys are in charge of healthcare, too.

Any right wing publication who dared refer to Democrats as (and we quote) “cowards” or (quoting again) “pussies” would be vilified by the left wing press. But since we are quoting Bill Maher as quoted in a left wing publication, what can we say?

While we agree that “Democrats are cowards” who often “act like pussies,” we are baffled by his statement that Obama should stand up for the 70 percent of Americans who aren’t crazy.

We’re not sure what polls Bill is paying attention to, or who he considers “not crazy” but we are willing to bet that he considers himself part of the 70%.

Which is all the proof you need that Bill is actually part of the 30%.

South Carolina congressman heckles Obama during healthcare speech, calls him “liar”

When South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson yelled out, “You lie,” during president Obama’s latest healthcare speech, he was either venting his anger or giving in to the voices in his head. We’re going with the former.

Wilson’s actions did not sit well with many, even some members of his own party who may have been secretly wishing that they had the balls to yell out themselves.

“Anybody who would cat-call the president of the United States addressing this body is very, very inappropriate, and he will hear from a lot of us about that,” Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif) told FOX News Radio.

Although Wilson has already apologized to the President, there have been shouts for his immediate resignation from Democrat blogs.

The best evidence of the shocking nature of the heckling could be seen while watching the reaction of Nancy Pelosi, who was seated immediately behind the President. After watching the incident repeatedly, Tivo owners report that shock proved more powerful than botox and that Speaker of the House’s expression actually changed.
