Have you watched Live PD yet?
One of the places they focus on is Pasco County Florida, which just so happens to be where we live.

I started to ask “WTF is wrong with Florida?”, but then realized that’s kind of a self-answering question.

I am a little torn by this story. I understand, as an ex military man, the need for using the chain of command. These two did not inform their superiors of what they were going to do so they deserve a slap down. The chain of command is there for a reason, mainly so everyone stays on the same page and we don’t see good guys shooting other good guys because nobody knew they were there.

On the other hand these two cops deserve an atta-boy because they arrived on scene and did not hide behind their cars, they went in to confront the problem.

Like I said, kind of hard to figure out which way to think about this suspension thing. Should they be commended for trying to save lives or punished for not following standard orders?

While I certainly understand the concern over the chain of command thing, it seems absurd here because they were not VIOLATING any orders, they were in fact showing courage and initiative. I’d hate to think that a cop has to call in and ask Mother-May-I? in the face of an emergency when split-seconds are critical.

The chain of command is important. However, in life and death situations officers have to be permitted to act. This has the smell of PC Bull Shit and covering for the coward of Broward. There was no commanding officer on site. These two put their training to use, did what they were supposed to do.

There appears to be a lot of bullshit going on with Broward County S/O. First they screw the pooch, a neighboring department comes to help, and takes the lead, then these two guys, and in each case it makes Broward S/O look more stupid and incompetent. Yea they should have notified their department. That’s standard procedure, but I would be willing to bet Sheriff Yellow Streak from, Broward pitched a bitch to the department these guys were from to get them in trouble. It’s all about power, just like in politics.

Yep, you got it right. It’s all about politics and protecting the public should never be about politics, it should be about cops doing the job they swore to do no matter what or where.

Florida is starting to sound as crazy as California.

You may be familiar with a site called Fark, which is much the same theme and format as IHTM, except it is only partly political, not intended as a primarily conservative or leftist forum where it is — it posts up odd, amusing, and interesting stories on many topics, and as here, invites readers to comment, which is usually in a good-natured and witty manner. All to the point, it was many years ago now (in computer years) when Fark finally introduced its “Florida” tag to mark out the sort of bizarre stories which so often came from that state. Oh, and the stories themselves are introduced with their own humorous introduction. One need scroll down not too far to find a couple of Florida stories, one of which is introduced: “Family services worker fired, arrested for stealing $1000s from elderly patient with quadriplegia. That’s no way to treat Who fans”

Another, from yesterday, is presented: “Florida Man learns that if you have 5 mason jars of pot, 100 grams of cocaine, 4 handguns, and $10,000 in your car, you probably don’t want to honk your horn excessively at police officers trying to clear an accident”.

In fact, when I first discovered IHTM, I remember thinking that it was just like Fark for conservatives!

Ha! Another one already!
“In a stunning repeat performance, Florida Man™ downs 16 vodaks, eats chimichangas in an all day binge at a Mexican restaurant then skips out on the tab “

I checked the site, looks like some funny stuff going on there. I look again tomorrow, when I have the time to do it right.
