Interesting video, a tiger attacks a sloth bear in an Indian national park. After two and a half minutes of battle the tiger ends up retiring in ignominy. And this was merely a smaller female bear, not a full-sized male… and sloth bears are not the biggest bears to begin with.

Makes you realize that a tiger against a polar bear would be noting more than a handy snack for the bear.

“You have to do something very decisive. Number one, you can take the guns away immediately from people that you can adjudge easily are mentally ill, like this guy. You know, the police saw that he was a problem, they didn’t take any guns away. Now, that could have been policing. I think they should have taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not. But I’ll tell you this, you have to have very strong provisions for the mentally ill.”

And that says it all right there. Our largest city, Albuquerque, has a crime rate that would scare any honest person but the rest of New Mexico? Not much crime at all. Because most of the state is farm and ranch country. And most of us farmers and ranchers own guns, know how to use them too. The last murder in the little town I live closest to was over 25 years ago, an old man shot his wife of about 50 years because he was tired of her nagging at him. The last robbery attempt of a local business was in,,,well hell, I can’t remember because it was so long ago. And I say that is because most folks here own weapons and know how to use them is the reason.

All right everyone, I have been posting patriotic songs to sign off lately so I will do something different. A little romantic song about real love, something I was good at since I have been married 5 times. And divorced. I know I am not an easy man to live around but one really true love may have changed me years ago. To late now, but you old married farts should enjoy this anyhow! Everyone have a good night, remember to hug your loved ones because you never know how long they will be with you. Only the Lord knows that, we humans are don’t know squat.

More legally-carried guns by citizenry. Abolish gun-free zones. Outlaw the Brady campaign, moms demand, every town, and any other lying gun-grabbing org.

A big start would be to get rid of those stupid “gun free zone” signs and put up signs that say “armed teachers in this school and they will kill your ass if you try to harm the students”. Then let the teachers, coaches, janitors, secretaries, every person working in that school carry a sidearm if they get the proper training. Most people do not have what it takes to kill another person but the idea is to let people know that schools are no longer a soft target, there are armed people in the school.

Arming teachers with tasers, not firearms might be angle to go at. Arming and training teachers to handle firearms will create a legal boondoggle that will get tied up in court for decades to come.
I think making it a requirement for administrators to carry a firearm is a good idea. The administrators in the schools my kids went to are pretty gung ho and would assimilate it as part of the job without much complaint. Go 1000 miles east or west and that gets tied up in court too. Consideration in promotion of administrators should be tied to willingness to train and carry.

Sorry bubba, you are wrong. School “administrators” are no better than any other politician, that is how they got their job to begin with. Knowing whose ass to kiss to get that $200,000 per year or more job does not mean that “administrator” has any guts, it only means they know whose ass to kiss.

And think about this. How many school “administrators” are in in a classroom every day? Dealing with the kids every day and hopefully learning who they are and how screwed up they may be or how smart they may be or gifted they may be? None, nada, only the teacher can be the judge to begin with because he/she is the one who deals with the kids every day.

If the teacher can pass a background check, gets the proper training, goes to the shooting range, talks to the people who know what it is like, I have no problem with them carrying a concealed weapon just in case.

The proof in the pudding will show if, God forbid, the teacher has to act to protect the children in a shooting incident like the Florida tragedy and has happened many times over the years. Only then will that teacher know if they have the guts to do what they can to protect the innocent or not.

Sheepdogs do not run from danger my friend, we run towards it. The flock must be protected at all times.

I think you’re talking about district level people. I’m talking about vice and principle level people. Above that and yeah, you’re dealing with politicians.

whiskeyriver

Nope, I am talking about individual school principles and those they hire to be the vice-principle. School officials are hired by school boards, an elected office, all over our great country so most school principles are picked because of their political stance instead of their ability to run a school. Think about it buddy, really think about it.

Agree I remember when I was in school how inept and political the principal and VP were. Even as a kid, I realized it.

150 school districts across the country are already successfully implementing it. It can be done. It SHOULD be done. We protect our money, politicians, celebrities with guns. Why are our children not entitled to the same protections?

whiskeyriver

We do not need to arm a “bunch” of teachers, that is an asinine idea because most people do not have what it takes to take a life even if it means saving children or themselves.

Our gooberment is always pushing companies to employ veterans? Ok, lets hire a vet or two or three to roam the halls of schools, that is a tax money spending thing I would go for. Because most combat vets would have no problem facing the danger and protecting the children in a school.

Funny thing is, I know a few teachers at our little school, women, and they are meaner than a junkyard dog when it comes to the kids in the school. I do not doubt that one of them would whip out a weapon and stop anyone who tried to murder the children, or die trying. We are country folks and believe me our women are far more dangerous than us men when it comes to the children around us!

What I am trying to say is do not poopoo the idea of allowing teachers who have the training to carry a weapon on school grounds. Not all teachers are whacked out liberal loons who do not have a clue, most are really pretty good people.

And the final thought: Get rid of those “gun free zone” signs! Those are nothing more than an advertisement for mass murderers! They know nobody in the school can stop them from killing children! Put up some signs that say “teachers and veterans roaming the halls are armed and will kill your ass if you try to harm the children in this school.” That would be the real stopper, let crazy people know they will die if they try to murder a bunch of innocent children.

JPTravis

I don’t know why the discussion is always about arming a bunch of teachers. All the situation requires is two or three adults in the building who know how to handle a gun, to send a message to the crazies that schools are not easy targets. The vice principal is always in charge of discipline: so rewrite the job description so that position is filled by someone with LEO training and arm them. Maybe the school counselor, maybe one or two other people who are not actively teaching classes but have more of a roaming type job. That’s all it will take.

StrinaM

Why can’t the teachers choose? Why is the choice being denied them?

poppajoe49

Sorry, I disagree.
There was a deputy sheriff assigned to the school, and he and 3 others that showed up all hid outside.
The more armed adults in the school, the better the chance that someone will take out a shooter instead of freezing in fear.

The fu**ing cowards hid behind their cars instead of doing their job. Being a cop is, in a small way, is like being in combat and you never hide. You move towards the problem and take it out. Especially when children are being murdered. Anyone who carries a gun, wears a badge, takes an oath to protect and serve, and fails to do so when some nut is killing innocent people does not deserve the gun or badge, only the scorn from every American who has served honorably.

whiskeyriver

Come on JP, think about it! A vice principle is a kiss ass who got the job because the principle and school board hired him/her. It’s a political position and nothing more. And a school counselor? Are you shitting me? Have you ever talked to a school counselor? Let the teachers who get the proper training carry on school grounds. Let the janitors and plumbers and electricians who take care of the school carry. They roam the halls all day, every day and no extra expense is needed. Finally, and I have said this before, get rid of those stupid gun free zone signs. Put up signs that say teachers and other people in this school are armed and they will kill your ass if you try to harm the children. Proactive instead of reactive works, just ask any New Yorker who lived there when Rudy Giuliani was their mayor.

JPTravis

When I went to school, the vice principal was the enforcer. He roamed the halls and bathrooms looking for skippers, smokers, and troublemakers and dished out the punishments. You had to have a touch of mean in you to be a vice principal.

whiskeyriver
Member
whiskeyriver

Ok, that is how it was where you went to school but I still stress my point. Did you ever meet a vice principal you would trust to protect your children? I never did. Coaches, janitors, some teachers, yes there were a few I met when my children were in school I would trust to carry a weapon any day but never a school administrator. But, we two live in different states and people with different ways of thinking so it is senseless to argue about who should be allowed to carry a gun on school grounds. It all depends on the individual, not their “position” in the school.

Arming teachers? Don’t know about that. They’re mostly democrats and the democrats do all the shootings. I guess I would go with metal detectors and armed guards. The kids do call school prison after all.

Failure was from government all the way down to the armed resource officer on campus. He was not in harms way and decided to remain so. The first line and best defense would be arming and training teachers. The ones in harms way. Instead of cowering under desks or throwing themselves in front of students, they could confront the shooter saving themselves as well as others. Thankfully the most common sense approach is finally being looked at.
