You'd be smiling, too, if your property taxes were only $68 per year.
The Detroit Free Press reports that a member of the city council pays just $68 in annual property taxes on her Tudor style home, although neighbors in comparable homes pay $2000-6000.
As you might expect, JoAnn Watson’s a Democrat, but that fact is conveniently omitted from the Detroit Free Press article.
The story gets even more laughable when JoAnn Watson attempts to explain why her taxes are so low.
“I’ve been a target of a smear campaign,” Watson insisted. “… I pay my bills and whatever I was billed, I paid.”
“I pay the taxes. All I know is I had a big drop when my house got hit hard by a tornado,” Watson said. “We had great damage.”
Watson claims her home suffered roof and foundation damage, but the Free Press notes that she never filed an insurance claim.
When did the tornado hit? Well, that’s where Watson’s story gets a tad hazy. She said it might have been 1993. Or it might have been 2002. Who knows?
Watson is a past winner of Detroit’s “Women’s Equality Day Lifetime Achievement Award.” But property taxes were obviously not included in that equality thing.

You know, I hate to say it, but here is another black Democrat, who happens to be a woman, and who has a government job, and who didn’t pay her taxes.
Maybe we all need to be like ‘Coach’ and quit paying altogether.
I’m from Michigan, we’re sooo proud of Detroit. This is SOP in the city. John Conyer’s wife is a council member/terrorist in Detroit also. She harasses all that come in her way.
Detroit is nothing more than the putrefying carcass of a once great city. Is it any wonder that once you slice into that decaying mound of munincipal flesh that you’ll find a maggot like Watson feeding on the pus?
Detroit needs a miracle like Katrina to wash it clean!
Love the colorful metaphor. It might be an ugly thing to conjure in the imagination but it is entirely true.
Miracles are few and far between. WE are going to need a half dozen not to break into pieces or fall into chaos in the next few years. I don’t think God has Detroit on his to-do- list. My guess.
You’ve probably seen that website featuring the “Ruins of Detroit”, yes? (http://www.detroityes.com/home.htm) It’s mind numbing to think that this level of destruction could happen in an American city, but it did! The pics on that site remind me of those old stills of 1945 Berlin, a gutted wasteland. However it wasn’t massed enemy artillery that caused Detroits demise, it was a self inflicted wound called LIBERALISM.
